Story
Meet Sassy – A Sweet Soul Ready for a Fresh Start! Sassy is a loving and resilient 7-year-old girl who is slowly blossoming into a friendly, engaging companion. She came to us after her owner moved into a nursing home, and over the past two months, we’ve had the joy of getting to know her unique personality and specific needs. Sassy arrived overweight, which has been tough on her joints, but she’s making great progress! She absolutely loves her daily walks and needs an adopter who will help her continue her weight loss journey with plenty of exercise and a carefully measured diet. Her ideal weight is around 6-7 pounds, and she’s already working hard to get there. An adopter must be willing and able to take her on daily walks at a minimum. She has worked up to 20-minute walks with her foster mom. Though she’s naturally a bit shy in new situations, Sassy is gaining confidence every day. With the help of a behavioral trainer, we’ve developed a simple, positive-reinforcement plan to help her feel more secure. She’s responding beautifully and has started engaging more with her foster family. She still prefers a home with female adopters only, as that is how she feels most comfortable. Sassy is also on an inexpensive daily medication ($10/month) to prevent seizures, and since starting it, she’s been completely seizure-free! She’s a smart, affectionate girl who loves her people and has lived harmoniously with other small dogs and cats. She is also fully housebroken. The ideal home for Sassy would be with a patient, dog-savvy owner who can continue to support her confidence and health journey. Due to her shy nature, a quieter home without young children would be best. If you’re looking for a sweet, devoted companion and are ready to help Sassy live her best life, she’d love to meet you! Story
Peanut is an approximately 9 year old, 9-lb Chihuahua who is looking for her retirement home with plenty of blankets and comfy spots she can burrow into and take a nap, her most favorite pastime! She’s pretty easy going and doesn’t ask for much, just a gentle hand and plenty of dog beds to choose from as she moves from cozy spot to cozy spot. Peanut is a quiet companion who does well with cats, respectful dogs large and small, and would likely be ok with kids old enough to know not to manhandle her little body. Instead of lap-sits, she prefers to lay next to you so she can get comfy with a little extra space for her older bones. She has some arthritis in her back end and can’t do stairs, but is ok with being picked up and carried to go out to the yard, and could potentially learn to use a ramp with a very gradual rise. Peanut enjoys outside time sunning herself and is content to hang out with her person wherever there is somewhere cozy for her, but doesn’t need to be glued to your side all the time. She is potty trained for 3-4 hours at a time, and will use a potty pad if she needs to go during longer stretches. Peanut does have skin allergies that require management with daily medication. Peanut is up to date on vaccines and preventatives, is spayed and microchipped and her adoption fee is $175. ##2370030##

Story
Pepper is an approximately 10 year old 5-lb Chihuahua but don’t let his age fool you, he still has some pep in his step! He loves being out in the yard and finding a sunny spot while his people do yard chores, and likely will be a solar powered lizard come summer-time. He’s an explorer and loves to sniff out every smell in every corner of the yard, and is quite quick despite his senior-status! Pepper has some knees that bother him from time to time, but that doesn’t seem to limit him getting wherever he wants to go.  He does well with cats, dogs large and small who share his calm demeanor, and would likely do well with older teenaged kids who are respectful in handling his tiny little body. He doesn’t mind being picked up but doesn’t want to be carried around all the time, he is an independent guy who likes to do things himself and doesn’t need to be glued to your side at all times! But will definitely accept some cuddle time whenever it’s offered. Pepper is crate trained and potty pad trained, but would likely benefit from wearing a belly band as he adjusts to a new environment and schedule. He is up to date on vaccines and preventatives, neutered and microchipped, and his adoption fee is $175. ##2370035##
