Story
Sophia is a very sweet, medium energy 3-year-old chihuahua mix with the most adorable underbite. She came to us through an emergency vet when she needed an emergency c-section. One puppy, Ditto, survived. Sophia loves to play with other small dogs (especially tug-o-war!) and go on walks. After she gets her energy out, she loves nothing more than to nap on the sofa with her people. She is an outgoing little girl and has done well with everyone she’s met after a proper introduction. She would likely do okay with larger dogs if they are calm and non-reactive. She does chase cats in her foster home but hasn’t shown any true signs of aggression towards them and might be able to co-exist with dog-savvy cats. She is potty pad trained when home alone but does potty outside as well when given the opportunity.

Story
Paisley is a little ball of love. She enjoys snuggles and kisses. She is a burrower who is always looking for the next blanket to nest under.Paisley has never been an only dog. Although she can exhibit some resource guarding tendencies regarding affection. She's also skittish in new situations and around new people or unexpected noise. Her ideal home would not include an apartment or smaller children. Paisley likes going outside and is good on leash walks. She's just as happy being cuddled up on a lap. Her foster parents are John S.    The adoption fee for Paisley is $250.Please complete our online application form if you are interested in adopting Paisley. A volunteer will contact you as soon as possible. Click here to go to the online adoption form All Kalamazoo Animal Rescue dogs & puppies are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. Dogs have been heartworm tested and if appropriate (age and time of year) all dogs and puppies are given heartworm preventative. All are given medication to rid them of roundworms and checked and treated for fleas & ear mites, if needed. Dogs and puppies are given distemper vaccines and depending on how long the pet has been in foster care, additional distemper vaccine(s) may be necessary and the expense will be incurred by the adopter. Any canine over 4 months of age is brought current on the Rabies vaccine. Additional vet care may have been provided depending on the particular animal's needs. Dogs are individually priced as above. Please note that we do not ship dogs and we cannot guarantee that a long trip to see a foster dog will result in an adoption or taking the dog home on that day. It is in the best interest of pooch and owner to enroll in an obedience class soon after adoption. After all, you have a lot to learn about your new friend. The Kalamazoo Dog Training Club offers a discount to owners with newly adopted dogs. Enroll before any behavior problems start - you won't regret it! Story
Name: Junior Breed Guess: Chihuahua/Italian Greyhound Mix Age: 2 years old Gender: Male Weight: 15 pounds Shelter Temperament: Timid Children: 12+ years old Cats: Can test upon request Dogs: Meet and Greet Required Adoption fee: $400 Likes: Hot dogs and exploring and walking outside Junior has some separation anxiety with his favorite people. New people can make him nervous, but treats help! The Animal Rescue Project (www.animalrescueproject.org) is committed to the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed. Adoptions are NOT first come, first served! We seek to choose the best fit for the approved adopter and pet. Please understand that these animals are still new to us and their needs and requirements can change at any time as we learn more about them. We will try our best to get them updated online as soon as possible. All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws. All dogs are also microchipped. Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $50 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization. The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan.
