Story
Love senior dogs? Love taking a dog on a walk and maintaining an active lifestyle? Molly is your girl! Although she is 10 years old, she is healthy and active and thrives with daily walks. She is most happy when her day is kept at a familiar routine. Read on to learn more about her: When Molly's owner passed away, her whole world changed. Molly was a loyal, loving companion to her owner for the majority of her life and was at her owner's bedside when she passed away, with the aid of hospice care. She was protective of her owner until the end. Our rescue assists terminally ill people with finding new families for their pets, including after the pet owner has passed away, and we received a referral through hospice to take Molly into our care. Molly was well loved by her owner and her spirited, friendly demeanor showcases all the amazing care she received. She even came complete with an inch thick of veterinary paperwork - a long history of receiving routine, thorough veterinary care means 10-year-old Molly is a healthy girl. She is a sweet, affectionate girl that enjoys cuddling with you and cuddling under all the covers too, typical chihuahua behavior. She LOVES sitting in the sun. One tradition she had with her owner was to sit on the porch each evening and meet with the neighbors. Molly would take turns sitting in different laps and promptly went inside when she determined it was bedtime. Along with being a chihuahua and dachshund, Molly is part jack russell as well, as exhibited by her energy level and love for long walks. She needs an owner who can keep her active - she needs daily walks (a mile is easy for her!) for her physical and mental well-being. She is housebroken, walks well on a leash, is fixed, vaccinated, microchipped, and had full bloodwork and a recent dental. She needs a home without larger dogs as she really does not enjoy interactions with large dogs of any kind. She does currently live with another small dog successfully in her foster home. Here is what her foster mom says about her: When her foster family is home, Molly is a high-Velcro dog who likes to be in the same room as them and preferably cuddled up next to her foster mom. When they leave for work, she will settle into her crate with some treats. Molly enjoys her exercise, and walks 1-2 miles a day. She walks nicely on her leash and is learning that she doesn't need to bark at the bigger dogs who pass by. Some treats and redirection help encourage her to focus on her walk. The ideal home for Molly is committed to creating a stable routine for her and providing consistent exercise. A fenced yard is preferred, as Molly will run out of an open door. She lives happily with another small dog in her foster home, but no large dogs or cats please! Story
Chungus, now named Carlos by his foster family, came to us as an owner surrender. He had been with his family since he was about 8 weeks old but they said they no longer had the time to appropriately care for him. Carlos was scared and confused when he came to us, understandably so. He went into a foster home (huge thank you to the LaVelle family again ). He did not want to be bothered by other dogs at first, but after time to settle in, he will now snuggle with them and sometimes even play! Carlos will be turning 5 on November 28. He is a healthy dog to our best knowledge. We had him in for a dental cleaning procedure last week so he has some fresh pearly whites! . He was taught to use potty pads and he uses those very well. We were told he is a chiweenie (chihuahua and dachshund mix). He is about 14lbs. This is what his foster family says about him: “Carlos Santana is ready to retire! He came to us super shy and timid. It took a few days and then he started to open up! He told our dogs to give him space at first, but now doesn’t mind them walking and even laying near him. He’s even played with our puppy! He LOVES to sit between my legs and even better if you have a blanket to cover him! He gives the sweetest little kisses on your hands and loves to be pet, especially right by his tail- he goes crazy! He also loves to play with plush toys - I’ve had to hide my slippers that have fur on them because he kept stealing them, sometimes right off my feet! He has been too nervous to go outside with our dogs, however he does use pee pads very well. Carlos has been a very good foster and with a little patience to allow him to adjust, will make an amazing dog for a lucky family!” An approved adoption application is required. The $250 adoption fee (payable by cash or check only) includes spay/neuter; microchip; dental teeth cleaning (if needed prior to adoption); vaccinations; heartworm and tick disease testing; fecal w/ giardia testing, monthly heartworm and flea and tick prevention . Our adoption application may be found by going to: www.headinhomerescue.org; then click on the link to the adoption application. Dogs for adoption may be seen by appointment only following an approved application. Proof of completion of an obedience class is required for all dogs following adoption. Please note: while we welcome out of state applications, we do not ship our animals and require adopters to come to Holland to finalize any adoption.November 27, 2023, 1:22 pm
