Their owner had to give them up through no fault of their own. They are sweethearts and have been very easy fosters. They are potty trained, know the word “potty” and go to the door when they need to go. They must have had a fenced-in yard at their previous home and not go on walks because they are unsure how to walk on a leash. But they are learning! They are crate-trained and sleep together in one kennel through the night. Scrappy likes to play with toys but for the most part, they are just happy to hang out with you on the couch. They love each other very much and do everything together, it feels more like having one super dog than two separate ones. They would love to be in a quiet home where they can shower you with love and keep your lap warm.  Please fill out an application to meet these cuties!   April 30, 2024, 2:19 am

Story
Name: Cal-Calley Age: 10 years Gender: Male Breed: Chihuahua Weight: 9 lb Dog friendly: yes Cat friendly: yes Child friendly: yes House trained: in progress Crate trained: yes Energy level: low/moderate  Temperament: snuggly lap dog with pops of energy Requirement: Not apartment appropriate  Adoption Fee: $175+tax To adopt, go to: www.mendingspirits.org/apply-to-adopt.html From the Foster Family: Cal is an absolute love bug who would snuggle all day if given the opportunity. He wants a forever home where people are around most of the time and he is welcome to snuggle on the furniture and in bed. He wiggles and snuggles his way into your arms – if you set him on the couch next to you, the next thing you know, he will be in your arms like a baby or curled up on your lap or side. He is delighted when you come home or for feeding time. He has a sweet and gentle soul and has done very well with our senior dogs, cats, chickens, and 3-year-old nephew when he visits. About Me: Cal was a well-loved Alabama lap dog until his owner passed away. After his owner passed, he was left outside until he was brought to a rescue, which left him temporarily terrified. He was in defense mode, very scared, and took days to warm up to his Alabama foster mom. Thanks to her loving care, he realized he was safe again. She said he was love-starved once he finally warmed up. He has been doing great since arriving in Minnesota on April 14 and is delighted to be with a family again! He is a glue stick and will follow you around the house and yard whenever possible. He appears to have been an indoor-only dog. He is somewhat nervous being outside, and he doesn’t like cold or rainy weather, screaming kids at the playground, bangs or loud noises, or large dogs barking at him. We are working on building his confidence. He appears to have been trained to use potty pads or washable pee pads in the past but is learning to bathroom outside, which he is learning well. He will need continued work on this, including restricted areas of the house and close supervision until he has learned better, regular trips outside, and extra patience when you are outside to wait until he goes to the bathroom. He enjoys walks, so this is a great opportunity to reinforce outside bathrooms and his confidence in being outside. He never learned stairs or how to jump on/off furniture, and takes a lot of carrying to get around, including getting outside at times. He is used to being around people as much as possible. He may have some separation anxiety and tends to whine, howl, or bark when left alone. We have been using a pen for when no one is home as well as a chill-out area when he gets too excited for the other senior dogs in the house or when he won’t bathroom outside but is probably due. He has been sleeping in a bed-side crate at night, although he would prefer to be snuggling in bed instead. He sleeps well on the bed and has no problem making it through the night as long as he is emptied before bedtime. He welcomes clothes, especially for going outside on cold days, and wears a harness to walk to avoid injuries to his tiny neck. April 30, 2024, 2:19 am

Story
Taffy is a very smart and sweet girl. She would be perfect in a calm, dog free home where "her person" is home a lot. However, she is high energy and loves to do speed laps in our big, fenced in back yard. She likes a good game of tug-of-war or fetch, and will do anything for a treat! She does tire quickly, though, and is very happy to lay by you all afternoon, getting snuggles and tummy rubs. She loves a calm, lazy morning, laying in the sun. A gentle, loving person and a few tweeks in her lifestyle, and she will be living her best life! I have been her person for the last 4 1/2 years. I love her so much, and giving her up has been a difficult decision that I have been pondering for more than a year. Our household, which includes 6 cats has become too overstimulating for her. She needs and deserves a better situation than I can provide. Taffy's main goal in life is to be with her person 24/7. She will sleep with you all night, under the covers and be perfectly content.

Story
Well, hello! I’m Dori and am super optimistic that my forever family is here! My short life journey hasn’t been the easiest but it’s only up from here! My seven siblings and I are so happy to be safe and here in Minnesota so that we can find our forever homes. We all look different, but I think I’m easy to spot with dark features on my face. I’m super friendly and I’ll always show you I’m excited to see you with my wagging tail. Awesome news, I do a great job of hanging out in my crate when my foster dad is away from the house. He says this is a great skill to have! I’m also a big fan of toys, all kinds of them! If you’re looking for a perfect addition to your family, look no further. Come meet me!--------------------------------------------All our Warrior Dogs will have all age appropriate medical care and vaccines, a microchip, and spayed/neutered if the dog is over 6 months of age at the time of adoption. Story
Hello everyone! My name is P. Sherman and I’m ready to start my new life here in Minnesota! I’ve been through a lot in my short life. My seven siblings and I weren’t in a safe situation when we lived in Alabama. Luckily, we were found by amazing friends, and they helped us get here. Now my day consists of playing with my toys and foster siblings and then napping in the sunshine. I have caught on quickly with bell training and let my family know when I have to go potty. I have been cuddling with my siblings at night and sleep really well. I love to play outside with the small humans and other pups. I can walk on a leash and learned from my foster sibling. I am a good boy looking for my forever family.--------------------------------------------All our Warrior Dogs will have all age appropriate medical care and vaccines, a microchip, and spayed/neutered if the dog is over 6 months of age at the time of adoption. Story
Oh, hi there! I’m Squirt and I’m ready for a fresh start as I find my forever home! I am originally from Alabama, but I made the long trip here. I didn’t come alone though, I have seven, yes seven, siblings that came with me. We are safe here in Minnesota and ready for our new beginnings! I can be curious as I like to explore my surroundings.I absolutely love snuggling with my foster dad and giving lots of kisses. Napping is one of my favorite things, followed closely by snuggles. I’m ready to explore this big world and go on lots of adventures with my new family. I hope that can be you!--------------------------------------------All our Warrior Dogs will have all age appropriate medical care and vaccines, a microchip, and spayed/neutered if the dog is over 6 months of age at the time of adoption.
