Story
Anna is a 9 year old, 10lb adorable Chug (chihuahua/pug mix) who has endured some big human turmoil recently and ended up in a Middle Tennessee shelter. Not much is known of her history, but her underweight condition indicates at least some neglect took place. A really devoted foster mom for critter.Cavalry turquoise noticed her profile in the shelter and realize that being a senior she might not be chosen very easily by the general public.  This young foster woman is making sure that Anna is gaining much needed weight slowly.  She’s starting to put on weight and enjoys her meal times-with the occasional treat of whipped cream. While she is timid at first and a little wary of quick movements, it doesn’t take long for her to warm up and become your best snuggle buddy. Anna has some spunk and can run up stairs as fast as any puppy. She seems to be good with other dogs and initiates playing, though she doesn’t know what to do with toys. She does well on a leash and going outside. She is catching on to potty training (another example of her neglected past) and we are wanting someone who works from home or is retired as she does exhibit some separation anxiety in her first week with us.  She has found the cozy comforts of warm blankets and fluffy pillows and burrows underneath.  Anna has lots of love to give and deserves  a family to spoil her.   Please email ccrtennessee@gmail.com if you are interested.  PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comJanuary 17, 2025, 10:01 pm

Story
Shylo is a neutered male Chiweenie, born in March 2024. He has a shiny coal-black coat with a white chest and toes. Shylo’s a little guy at about 12 lbs. and loves people and other dogs. He’s a bit timid when meeting new people, but once he knows you, he is silly, happy and very entertaining. He is crate trained and can use a doggie door. Might need some house-training support in his new home, but if taken out regularly, will go outside. He will let you know when strangers are close to the house, and you will be able to encourage or discourage his alerting at various noises because he is young. Shilo walks on a leash and likes to ride in the car. He’s up to date on all vaccinations. He’s ready to sport adorable coats and sweaters in this freezing weather and will be a loving companion. Adoption fee $325.  This covers the cost of spay/neuter, DHPP, Rabies, Flea, tick, heart worm check, worm treatment, and microchip. To adopt, you need to first fill out an application. Go to: https://rutherfordcountyhumanesociety.org/dog-adoption-application/ We are located in Western North Carolina.    Optional transport is weekly.  After your application is approved, we will contact you regarding cost and delivery if you so desire.January 16, 2025, 3:27 pm

Story
Little Paco is a really good boy! He loves people and he's a snuggler!! Paco came to the shelter because his former owner needed to move, and they weren't allowed to have a dog at their new location. Paco is cute, affectionate, and appears to love every person he meets! His exercise needs aren't incredibly high, according to his former owner, so he's more of a cuddler and a great friend than a play-buddy. He is crate trained. He has lived with children in the past and he did well. He could potentially live with a very dog-savvy cat, if they left him alone and the two were fed separately. (This chihuahua LOVES his food!!) We're not certain how he'd do with a cat though, as he's never lived with one before, so if a potential adopter had a cat, a slow, monitored introduction would be essential. He wants to be an only dog. And he does tend to sing the song of his people, so he probably wouldn't do well in an apartment, if noise were an issue. If you're interested in Paco, call the shelter at (603) 472-3647 and press 1 for adoptions to speak with an adoption counselor!

Story
All interested people should submit an adoption application as their first step. Have you heard of a thing called a 'New Years Resolution'?' You have? Oh. Well, I just learned about it. My foster parents told me about it the other night when we stayed up WAY PAST my bedtime to watch TV and listened to loud, colorful booms in the sky. Have you ever seen those? I don't know what they're about, so I didn't pay much attention to them Well, anyway, my resolution is to find my forever family! I don't think that will be too hard to do since I am a very cute little guy! I've been told a resolution is a goal you have to work towards, so I have been making sure to work on myself to make sure my resolution comes true. Here are some things I have been doing: 1) Exercise: I make sure to get my cardio in every day by playing fetch. It is my favorite activity, so I guess it isn't really a chore 2) Getting enough rest: I make sure to get enough sleep each night. I try to get a peaceful night's sleep in my crate without complaint 3) Keeping my mind sharp: I try to keep my mind sharp by practicing my obedience. So far, I know 'sit' and 'come', but I'd love to learn more! 4) Being comfortable alone and in a group: I am good with other calm dogs or by myself! I hope my hard work will pay off and I can be in a home soon. If you are looking for a 20-pound pup who is very smart and calm, please submit an application on our website  All pets adopted from GDHS are spayed or neutered, have vaccinations brought up to date, are on heartworm preventative (dogs), FIV/FELV tested (cats) and microchipped. The Greater Derry Humane Society does not have a physical shelter, and all visits are by appointment only. January 7, 2025, 10:05 am
