Story
RUSTY is an adorable little red mixed breed dog looking for a home. He's the perfect little sidekick. Rusty is probably some type of chiweenie mix (chihuahua/dachshund), maybe with a little corgi mixed in and heaven only knows what else. He's a medium energy middle-aged boy, 7-8 years old. He's silly and playful and affectionate. Rusty is currently a bit overweight, he's 16 pounds and should weight about 12 pounds. He'd love a home where he gets plenty of attention, walks and playtime. Rusty is okay with other small dogs and so far ignores kitties. If you'd like to meet Rusty, please fill out a dog adoption application at dreamhouserescue.org. We are happy to arrange a private meet with an approved adopter. You can meet Rusty at our weekly adoption event, Saturday noon-2 at PetSmart Eastgate.   Our fully-vetted adoptable dogs go to prospective homes for a one-week trial period to make sure the dog and home are the right fit before an adoption is finalized. We only adopt dogs into homes where all current pets are spayed/neutered and current on vaccines and heartworm and flea and tick prevention. We do check veterinary references to make sure adopters are compliant with standard veterinary care. Our adoptable dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested, dewormed and current on flea and tick and heartworm prevention. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Ramona! UPDATE May 2, 2025:Romona is now potty trained and is loving going outside and playing with her foster siblings!!  (When Ramona first came into rescue she was terrified of being outside and would only use potty pads indoors, so this is a huge step forward for Roamona!)This little one is really making progress.  She now enjoys individual attention.  Ramona has made a remarkable journey and will make a special person a wonderful pet.  You can read the earlier posts about her and see how far she has come.UPDATE Dec 17, 2024:   Ramona is really starting to open up and trust.  She is starting to let her foster parents pet her and even rub her belly!    She constantly follows her foster mom around and stays right by her side.  Initial post:This little cutie hasn’t had the best start in life but she’s ready to find her person and/or forever family.   Ramona came from a bad hoarding situation,  this sweet girl had never been outside until she came into foster care. She is ~ 22 months old, 12.6lbs, UTD on vaccines and spayed. Ramona needs a very patient person.  She is still very scared and takes a while to warm up to you.  She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and LOVES playing with toys and her foster siblings.  Ramona is still terrified to go outside but she is pee pad and kennel trained.  She will need a kennel of some sort, this is her safe space where she feels comfortable.  Ramona will not immediately warm up to you and will take time to get comfortable and trust you.  She has slowly started letting her foster parents touch her and take treats from their hands. She gets very excited and acts like she wants to be petted but just not quite sure yet.   Ramona will need a lot of patience, love, and understanding.  She has been through a lot but is healing and getting more trustful everyday.  She is a sweet pup who deserves to find a loving home. Are you that special person Ramona needs to live her best life?  Adoption fee $200Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 25, 2025, 5:44 pm

Story
Meet Alice! Alice is a female chihuahua mix weighing in at 7 pounds. She is on the search for her fur-ever home! Alice was born in September 2019 which makes her just over 6 years old now. Poor Alice was not treated well prior to coming into rescue. It is believed she was used as a breeder dog at a backyard breeder. She has come a long way since being with her foster family. Alice needs to be treated like the queen she is- she deserves the finest things in life! She is a fun-loving little gal, but has to live life on her terms. A few things to know about Alice: she really is not fond of other dogs, unless they are little and leave her alone, but even then, she can be cranky with them. That being said, it has been determined that Alice should be the only dog in her new home. She will need an adult only home, no kids at all. Alice also needs time to get to know new people- all of her vets talked to her first, walked around the room so Alice could go to know them, then they would pick her up and she was okay with that. Alice doesn’t like people sticking their face in her face. She should be in a home without children but is good with adults who know how to handle her and be respectful. Alice is a good eater and not fussy when it comes to food. She likes car rides- her foster family has a seat that they buckle her into but it sits on the console in the middle of both adults and Alice really seems to love that! Due to her arthritis, she should go to a home without steps; she can’t go up stairs on her own. Her foster family has a ramp but most of the time they carry her outside to go potty and carry her back inside. She should be carried or have a stroller, as she should not walk that much, except for going potty and around the yard. As she gets older, she will need more care as she will develop severe arthritis, so maybe pain meds, anti inflammatories, maybe a cart; for now, she can get around and at the times she cannot, her foster parents carry her and/or use a stroller. Will you be the one to give a gal who hasn’t had a good start to life the best possible life from this point on? Alice’s adoption donation is $300. She is available for adoption in the midwest region, which is comprised of: OH, KY, IL, MI, WI. If you are interested in the above dog, please do not email us and tell us that you are interested, but submit an adoption application. The link for the application is below. To submit an application go here: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/ An application must be submitted and approved before a meet-n-greet can be scheduled. Your current dogs/cats must be spayed or neutered unless a veterinarian has determined that your current pet(s) should not be fixed due to medical reasons. They must also be up-to-date on shots and on HW preventative. Reference checks and a home visit are required so MW dogs can only be adopted in OH/KY/IL/MI/WI.

Story
Lovely Layla is a 7-year-old, chill-as-they-come Chihuahua mix who has truly mastered the art of relaxation. She is the biggest couch potato you’ll ever meet and would be perfectly content spending her days wrapped up in a blanket, soaking up love and belly rubs. Layla is housebroken, doesn’t bark excessively, and is both dog- and kid-friendly. While she isn’t very playful with dogs her size, she doesn’t mind their company at all. She’s untested with cats. All Layla really needs to be happy is a little hand play, some gentle scratches, and a cozy spot to snuggle. She’s a smart girl who does well on car rides once she gets settled and figures out her spot. Health-wise, she’s in great shape and just needs a routine dental cleaning and a “tic tac” (tiny but mighty 😉). If you’re looking for a low-maintenance, loving companion who will happily keep you company on the couch and melt into every blanket in the house, Lovely Layla is your girl 🐾💖 You can apply at pawpatroldayton.com. Adoption fee is 285 dollars which includes microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and spayed. All of our animals are vaccinated, micro-chipped and spayed/neutered before being adopted.
