Butch aka Butchy aka Toby lol Butch is 4-5 years old and 16 pounds. His name is Butch, that is the name he came with however, for some reason, he really looks like a Toby to me and I always accidentally call him Toby or Toby Tobe , so now he knows both 😂 Butch’s mom had to be put in hospice care and he came to the rescue . He was an obese 20 pounds when he came here but now is down to 16.5 , 13-15 would be a good weight for him. Butch is scared of everything. He is afraid of his own shadow. He was terrified when he first got here but never aggressive. You can pick him up but he does not ask for it nor does he has for attention or bid for your love. He hides most days under a shelf on a bed we made him and he lets you pet him but he just freezes when you do, although recently when I pet him he is at-least less stiff and maybe in 2-3 more weeks he will actually pretend to enjoy it . Poor Butch had a sheltered life and was under socialized, but that was the only life he knew, so coming here he was very shut down. But recently, when we’re not watching him and we spy on him through the window, he does lay with the other dogs and kind of princes around and seems pretty relaxed. he likes to go outside, but does not really want to be out there with you. He basically acts like a feral dog, but never shows any sign of aggression and he is very much like having a cat. He will use the pee pads or go outside. He must have a fenced yard. He does not understand walking on a leash. He also does not actually run from you. He will just sit there and freeze and let you pick him up but sometimes he will nervous pee if he does not know the person picking him up .. it took him about two weeks with me to stop peeing on me, but he did, thankfully. He never barks or fusses or whines or cries. We have never heard a peep from him. He will tolerate baths and nails and ears but does not enjoy it, again he just freezes terrified. He sun bathes with his friends when it is warm. He sleeps a lot. He is a cat dog. But I do think once he is in a home and gets used to that new home with his new people, he will relax a lot, and will be a loving part of the family. It is just going to take a lot of time and patience. He has beautiful eyes and a beautiful rare chocolate Merle coat. He needs a patient and loving adopter that will just give him the time he needs to grieve, acclimate, and adjust. Gentle hands and soft voices. He is great with all other animals and he has never met kids but I think would be fine with older kids, he has zero aggression, but would be terrified of a toddler. He just needs time. I believe in him and I hope someone else out there will too. 💜

Emmett is approximately 2 to 3 years old and 8 1/2 pounds. He is a gorgeous charcoal color boy. Emmett was rescued from a terrible hoarding situation and it has taken him a long time to come around. He has been with us since November 2025 He is great with other dogs. He loves to play. He barks at the cats but would not hurt the cats. He still does not come to us for attention or really want us to pick him up or per him. We can corner him and pick him up without him biting, and we can bathe him do his nails give him his monthly prevention, etc. he just recently stopped running out of the room every time we entered and he does sit and wait now for his breakfast and treats and we’ll take chicken out of my hand. He follows us around and seems to start enjoying seeing us, but still is very weary of human interaction he is kind of more cat like than dog like. We are hoping in the right home that Emmett will blossom and start to enjoy human attention and interaction, but he is not there yet. He does, however really love other dogs and must have a playmate in the home. No small children. And he must have an extremely well fenced in yard. It would help if the dogs in the home are very social and friendly as he definitely mimics what other dogs are doing and is quite the little shadow . He is a work in progress, certainly a project dog, but we believe there is someone for everyone out there and Emmett is fine here at the rescue for however long it takes to find his someone :)

Cricket is approximately 10 years old and weighs 11 pounds. He did have a dental and has 15 teeth missing now, but he still has 12 pearly whites remaining . Crickets human dad passed away and he was brought to the rescue. He can be a very sweet and loving boy, but it does take cricket a few days to get to know some people, but not all. Cricket has always been great with me and is very loving with me. But he took a couple days to get used to the other girls. After about a week he was good with everyone that works here. He had met a retired couple last week and was great with them, he was good at the vet office, but once in a while he meets someone that he is not quite ready for them to just pick him up and he may growl or try to get away. 90% of the time he is fine, 10% of the time he is a chihuahua. I adore cricket and think he is a lovely little boy. He bonds quickly to his person and when he does he is such a lover boy. He does wear a belly band when roaming around inside. He does not always mark, but we have caught him a couple times. So a belly band will be needed until he gets used to his new place. Cricket walks well on leash and harness and is very cuddly once he gets to know you. Unfortunately, cricket is heartworm positive and we are doing the slow kill method of heartworm treatment for him and he has gotten a pro heart injection. 10 years old we just feel he is too old to do the amid side injections and prefer to go this route . We do hope Cricket finds his family soon. He is sad here. He is used to being with his human all day and having pets and love and treats. He loves food. He does not care about cats and is pretty aloof to them. No young children please. He is good with other dogs but it takes him a few days to get used to them as well. Especially younger dogs that like to play and bounce around in his face, he will give a little elvis lip or growl but he has never attacked another dog , the same as he is with people he just needs some time and space to decompress and get used to a new situation but he does . Cricket is with other dogs here at the Rescue and is fine with them. He also came with five other fur siblings. He is just emotional :) he has a lot of feelings and it takes him a couple days to shake them out, but I promise he is such a good boy. Just needs some tlc and a little time.

Poochie Panda Pants 13 years young and 5.5 pounds. She is a funny and spirited little lady. Don’t let her age fool you, she still has that chi sass and dares anyone to take her little hotdog treat or wet food . Poochie Panda Pants is a tiny senior lady. She came to us from our local shelter. She was so incredibly dirty and thin. It did not take long at all for her to gain weight as she lives food and is a good eater. She even eats kibbles even though she only has one toofers. Poochie is tiny and older , she does have to potty a lot and will usually use pads but sometimes misses. If you are someone that wants a 100% potty trained dog please do bot apply. She is old and as we age and as dogs age, their bladder control is not always the best. She never goes in her bed though or on her blankets, she really does try her best to get the pads, but that is 50/50 if she actually hits it. She does not hear well. She can still see however has severe dry eye and needs to stay on eye drops and ointment the rest of her life daily. She is a happy girl. She dances and prances and still loves to run around outside for a fee minutes before she burrito’s into her blankie. She loves naps and blankets and soft beds. She is very quiet and calm 90% of the time but she is definitely a chihuahua and you see that spark when the hand-man comes or a new dog comes sniffing around her breakfast 😂🐾 it makes us laugh and also makes us happy that she still has the zest for life. She loves attention and is truly an all around happy and silly old lady. She also has some arthritis as most old dogs do but we did have an x-ray done as she has a little bit if a hunch back, and she has no bone disease , no slipped or herniated disks and nothing we can see on x-ray she also does not all seem bothered by her back or legs and gets around just fine as fine as a 13 year old baby gets around 🙂 Apply www.texaschihuahua.org
