Story
Greetings, my name is Duke! I am a 5-year-old male chihuahua mix. I am current on my vaccines, heartworm tested, neutered, and microchipped. 3 words that describe me: Shy, Chill, Loyal Things staff and volunteers have to say about me: I can be shy at first, but once I get to know you I'll be your best friend! I love sitting on the couch with my humans and relaxing. My ideal home would be a calm environment. Activity level/Energy Level: (1-10): 4/10 Housetraining Status: I am still working on it, a consistent schedule and lots of praise will help me learn quick! I should do well in a home: Due to my shy nature any children in my household will need to be 5 years or older. I should do well with other dogs given proper introductions and time to adjust. My friends at CRHS are unsure how I'd do with cats. My favorite activities are: Relaxing with my humans and getting lots of affection Things I need work on are: I will need to work on building my confidence, basic commands, and housetraining. Any special needs: N/A Doggy day out notes: N/A Daycare Status: N/A My adoption fee is: $300 Training Requirement if applicable: N/A *If you are interested in adopting, please start by filling out an application available on our website and email it to us. https://www.couleehumane.com/adopt-an-animal

Story
Meet Trixie! Trixie is approximately 3 years old and is thought to be a Chihuahua/American Eskimo mix.Trixie was surrendered after having lived on a farm and wanting to be a house dog, but was kept outside. Because of this, we are hoping to find her someone who is willing to let her be an indoor princess. She did live around other dogs, cats, children & farm animals.Trixie has been a bit bashful during her first few days at the shelter - we're sure it's just a culture shock coming to a place like this for the first time, so we're simply taking it slowly and letting her absorb all of her new surroundings. We want to make sure her new family understands that time and patience will be required. We don't want her to be overwhelmed, but instead to feel safe and loved in her new home no matter how long it takes her to settle in.Trixie is incredibly loving and enjoys being petted and held. We're told she likes to play fetch, but she isn't quite ready to show us that just yet. The family who surrendered her said they believed she was housetrained before they got her, but a refresher course will be recommended so that she can get used to a new schedule. A nice cozy kennel space for herself would be beneficial as well, that way she can retreat if she feels the need.Even though she's been bounced around a little bit and that has caused Trixie some confusion, we know she'll overcome this trauma and settle in nicely with the right person. As long as you are patient, loving and understanding, Trixie will be devoted to you.We are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been approved:https://monroecountydogshelter.com/apply-adopt.htmlTrixie will be fully vaccinated & spayed prior to adoption. Her adoption fee is $240.

Story
Meet Klein — the 12-pound king of your couch and your heart 👑🐾 At 5 years old, this Dachshund/Chihuahua mix has life pretty well figured out: sit on lap, receive pets, give kisses, repeat. Klein is the perfect “compact but capable” size — small enough to carry around like a VIP, but sturdy enough to hop onto the couch or bed like he owns the place (which… he will). Why Klein is basically perfect: • Professional lap warmer 🔥 • Certified face-cleaner (no napkin needed, he’s got you) 😘 • Loves EVERY human he meets — seriously, he has no strangers • Gorgeous medium-length black and dark brown coat (very handsome, he knows it) • Equal parts snuggle bug and independent king — when he’s done with pets, he simply… clocks out and naps elsewhere • Walks nicely on a leash (a gentleman, obviously) A few “quirks” (he prefers the term personality traits): • Dog selective — he’s more of a “small dog, or lazy large dog…quality friends only” kind of guy • Doesn’t believe in sharing food… yours or his 🍗 So kids that understand this is a must. Toddlers are probably a no. • Might need belly bands while he remembers he’s not the one paying the mortgage • Has a slight case of “this is mine” energy when it comes to resources Klein is recently neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all his shots — basically move-in ready. He’s working on house training, but let’s be honest… if your house already smells like another dog, he’s just trying to contribute to the décor (we’re looking at you, Chihuahua 👀). At the end of the day, Klein is a happy little guy who just wants a warm lap, some snacks (not to share), and a human who understands that personal space is optional when you’re this cute. Adopt Klein — your lap has been empty for too long. 📍Being fostered in Taylor, WI 🏁My adoption fee is $400 and you can see more about the rescue at https://lastpawrescue.org.
