Story
Meet Duke, the heart-stealing, senior Chihuahua mix who's had quite the journey to find his forever sofa—er, home! This little guy is 16 years young and 18 lbs of pure love, with all of the spirit of a much younger pup (minus the puppy hassles.) Once he’s made himself at home, Duke’s house manners are impeccable — in fact, he’s a bit of a homebody and would prefer to chill on the couch with you than go out. He does enjoy a daily walk, and is a total PRO on a leash.     When it comes to socializing, Duke is a real charmer with a solid gold record with dogs, cats and humans. Oh, and while he's got no interest in guarding resources, he does have a bit of an obsession with his food bowl—and your proximity to it. He’s highly food motivated and extra responsive to vocal commands if there’s a treat involved.   Our boy isn’t much of a barker, but he’ll let you know if someone’s tiptoeing around the yard. And while he might not hear as well as he used to, that just means he's not bothered by loud noises—what a champ! Just a heads up: avoid touching his feet; he's not a fan.   Energy-wise, Duke's all about the easy life. A stroll in the yard or a short walk will do, and then it’s straight back to snuggling up.    The ideal home for Duke? He needs an adult human who's more into relaxing than running and who appreciates the finer, quieter moments in life. While a companion dog isn’t necessary, having someone around most of the time is essential for him. Preferably no - or minimal - stairs.   Ready to let this lovable gentleman into your heart and home? Story
“More belly rubs, paw-lease,” pleads handsome four-year-old Hawk. At a fit 15 pounds, he’s fit in slowly but surely to life in his foster home, and, being blessed with the gentlest personality, loves nothing more than snuggling up on the couch with his foster mom and getting copious head and belly scratches. He also loves playing with his doggy foster friends, running around the yard, taking long naps in the sun and sleeping on the couch. Learning to heel on a leash for the walks he enjoys, Hawk is especially fond of chicken treats and bully sticks, answers to his name, currently knows “come” and “sit,” and is working on more. While he sleeps in his crate at night, he also curls up inside it throughout the day, rarely barks, and is almost fully house-trained. An ideal work-from-home companion, Hawk now hopes to find fur-ever love in a tranquil home without children or cats that will continue bolstering his confidence and complete his training, including his commands, in exchange for his own enduring loyalty and love. Story
Aptly named for her wintry white coat, 3-year-old Milky is making the most of her second chance at life. Rescued from a hoarding situation, this 24-pound beauty has been gradually growing more confident in the reassuring calmness of her foster home. Sweet and submissive, she loves snuggling and cuddling with her foster mom, resting her head on her and rolling over for belly rubs. She also loves going for two long walks a day, walking well to “heel,” engaging with dogs of all sizes provided they’re calm, playing a few rounds of fetch and nibbling and chomping on toys now and then. Eager to please and to learn, Milky, who’s very sensitive to training and is highly food motivated, currently knows “sit,” “down,” “no” and “stay,” and is adept at catching treats in mid-air! Not to mention a quirky “groan” that she uses in the morning to indicate she’s excited and impatient for a walk. Crate trained and almost fully house-trained, Milky will flourish in a calm environment without children, and patient adopters to lovingly bolster her confidence, complete her training, including her commands, and ensure that her second life is her best life ever. See additional photos and videos of Milky here.
