Story
When Minion came to TJO he was scared and just wanted to hide, now Minion enjoys attention from those he trusts and is trusting more people every day. He will need someone who has a quiet/low activity home where he can build his confidence and become the best dog he can be.OTHER PETS: Minion can be a little pushy with other dogs; as with all our adoptable dogs Minion should meet whatever dogs he would be living with prior to adoption to ensure a good match.[Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: [First Dog] KIDS: Minion is coming out of his shell but he is a nervous dog; he needs to live with humans who will understand and respect his needs and boundaries. (quiet/low activity home, slow approaches, letting him set the pace for interactions) [13+ Must Meet First]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Minion would be quite happy lazing away the days; walks will change things up and give him new things to sniff as well as ensuring he gets enough exercise. [Couch Potato / Walking Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: [Extensive] Minion has had a full veterinary work-up. He has a heart murmur that will require a cardiologist at some point for diagnostics. He will most likely need medication later in life. At the present time he is not symptomatic and is full of energy. Treatment can be on the costly side. We ask adopters to keep that in mind before adoption. LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Minion build his confidence while he bonds with his new owner; learning basic commands and behavorial expectations are also important. Story
Joe has made it known since arrival that he is scared and does not trust easily. Staff and volunteers have been working to build his confidence and trust, but it is only the beginning of his journey. Joe's best fit would be with an experienced person who can help him feel safe enough to let his walls completely down and enjoy the dog life.OTHER PETS: Joe is curious of other dogs but does not take correction well; this might lead to him unintentionally antagonizing another dog and because of that Joe would do best as an only pet. [Should Be Only Pet]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Joe is slow to meet humans and other dogs, will back away from humans while barking, and is generally uncomfortable being handled. He also does not have interest in playing. Someone who has experience with very nervous dogs would be best suited to help Joe feel safe enough to relax and start building a positive relationship. [Very Experienced]KIDS: [Adults Only]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Joe does not have interest in playing, however once he is settled and working on trust with his new owner, walking would be a good activity to help the bonding process. He is a curious dog who will explore his area and can end up in some unexpected places. [Couch Potato] VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Joe is going to need an owner dedicated to helping him flourish at his pace. Positive reinforcement therapy will help them bond and improve Joe's confidence, but it will be important to ensure that Joe has settled enough that training is not just another stressor in his life. He will be able to learn basic commands and behavorial expectations as well as having an activity that is not play which he can engage in with his owner. IN ORDER TO ADOPT JOE HIS NEW OWNER WILL NEED TO SIGN A BEHAVIOR CONTRACT [Intense]GROOMING: [Minimal]May 14, 2024, 5:20 pm

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Becky is a super special girl who hasn't let the hand life dealt her get her down. She is active and playful and makes sure to take a lot of nap breaks to keep her energy up. OTHER PETS: Becky is social with other dogs when she encounters them but would prefer to maintain her naps without the interruption of annoying siblings. [Should Be Only Pet]OWNER EXPERIENCE: [First Dog] KIDS: Becky would do best living with humans who will respect her desire to be left alone. She does everything on her own time, and is not fond of playing. Younger humans who want a playmate would not be a good match for Becky.[13+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Becky is enjoying her retirement, she likes to sniff things and wander around a bit in between her naps. Sunshine and soft grass is just as comfy as a couch and blankie. [Couch Potato] VETERINARY CARE: Becky is an older gal who came to us with a 4/6 heart murmur. We never would have known until our veterinary staff found it. She is very active and is not showing any signs of slowing down. She will need regular vet visits and most likely medication at some point but for now, she is ready for her new retirement home. [Above Average]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Becky bond with her new owner as well as ensuring she has a mastery of basic commands and behavorial expectations. Becky will require a behavior contract due to recent incident.GROOMING: [Minimal]May 14, 2024, 5:20 pm
