Story
Approx. DOB:  1/15/24                Approx Weight: 12.52 Lbs Adoption Fee: $275 includes a 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness!!  Meet Mowie!   Mowie is an adorable 2½-year-old Chihuahua mix (possibly with a little Dachshund) weighing just 12½ pounds. He may be small, but he's full of personality and is looking for a family that will appreciate both his playful side and his love of cuddling.   Mowie forms strong bonds with his people and loves to be close—so close, in fact, that he'll happily follow you from room to room. Because he likes to stay right by your feet, his new family will need to be mindful of where he is while walking around the house. This is part of his affectionate personality, but it could be a tripping hazard for anyone who has difficulty with balance or mobility.  Mowie enjoys going for walks and has great leash manners. He also loves exploring the yard, chasing squirrels and rabbits, and playing with his foster dog siblings. Because of his curious nature, he will need a securely fenced yard where he can safely run and explore. When playtime is over, you'll often find him burrowed under a cozy blanket for a nap! Another favorite pastime is to be curled up in your lap, and when he gently leans his head against you, it's impossible not to fall in love.  Mowie is crate trained and is doing very well with his house training. He currently sleeps in an indoor dog playpen at night but would happily trade that for a spot snuggled up in bed with his forever family. He wears a belly band indoors as he continues learning to let his people know when he needs to go outside, and he keeps it mostly dry. He knows 'stay,' is working on 'sit,' and comes when called by his name.  Like many small dogs, Mowie can be a little sensitive and may become startled if approached unexpectedly. Because of this, he would do best with older, respectful children who understand how to give him time to adjust and respect his space. Once he feels safe and comfortable, he is an incredibly loving and devoted companion.   Mowie also enjoys chew toys and Nylabones and can be a bit of a picky eater, sometimes choosing not to finish all of his meals.  If you're looking for a loyal little shadow who will accompany you on walks, make you smile with his blanket-burrowing antics, and happily curl up in your lap at the end of the day, Mowie may be the perfect addition to your family!  I have been neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative, wormed and microchipped.  If you are interested in adopting me, please complete the adoption application located at www.furrykidsrefuge.org/adoptadog and a dedicated volunteer will get back to you as soon as possible. Furry Kids' Refuge is in need of good quality dog and puppy food with meat as the first ingredient.  You can drop off donations at our weekly adoption events at the Lee's Summit Petco (1860 NW Chipman Road, Lee's Summit, MO), Saturdays only from 11am to 2:00 p.m.  Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.  Would you like to foster a Furry Kid? Furry Kids' Refuge will supply the food & vet care while you supply the basic house rules & love.......win-win for all!!  Just visit our website http://www.furrykidsrefuge.org/category/fostering/  for more information. Thanks for your support! Story
Approx. DOB:7/4/2019                 Approx. Weight: 11 lbs Adoption Fee: $275 includes a 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness!  Meet Lilyanne! Lilyanne is a 7-year-old Miniature Dachshund with a big personality packed into one adorable little body! More than anything, Lilyanne wants her person. She absolutely soaks up attention and affection and will happily follow you from room to room because, in her mind, whatever you're doing is definitely something she should be a part of! If you're looking for a little shadow and devoted companion, Lilyanne may be your girl. Lilyanne gets along well with the other dogs in her foster home, although she isn't shy about voicing her opinion—to her foster family, the other dogs, or sometimes just because she has something to say! We think she would be happiest sharing her home with calm or more submissive canine friends who won't mind her confident little personality. She's a sweet, spunky and pretty fearless girl who seems completely unaware that she's a tiny dog. Lilyanne loves her chew toys, enjoys exploring the backyard, and gets super excited for car rides. She also walks fairly well on a leash and enjoys getting out and about with her people. Lilyanne is mostly housetrained and is also very good about using potty pads. She's a healthy eater and has gained a couple of pounds that she needed when she first arrived. She's now at a great weight, so her new family will want to measure her meals to help keep her trim and healthy. Lilyanne has already had some important medical care while with us. She has been spayed, had an umbilical hernia repaired, and received a dental cleaning. Now she's ready to put all of that behind her and concentrate on the important stuff—finding someone to love and adore for the rest of her life. Because she's a tiny lady with a bold personality, we're looking for a home with children age 10 or older. Lilyanne doesn't ask for much—just a person of her own, plenty of love and attention, some good chew toys, and a spot right beside you. ❤️ If you're looking for a loyal little companion who wants to be involved in every part of your day, Lilyanne is ready to fill that position! I have been spayed, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative and microchipped. Story
Approx. DOB: 5/15/23                 Approx. Weight: 15.5 Lbs Adoption Fee: $275 includes a 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness! Meet Jemma – A Little Dog with a Big Comeback Story! At approximately 3 years old and weighing just 12 pounds, Jemma is the perfect little companion with a heart that's learning to trust again. We believe she's a Rat Terrier/Chihuahua mix, though that's just our best guess. Jemma came to us from a small rural Missouri shelter, and when she first arrived in her foster home, it was clear life had been overwhelming for her. She was so frightened that even gentle pets on her head made her flinch. But thanks to patience, love, and a safe place to land, Jemma has blossomed into an entirely different dog. Today, she's affectionate, playful, and loves being with her people. She's fully housebroken, crate trained, and leash trained, making her an easy companion to have around the house. Jemma already knows sit and stay, and she's almost mastered shake—she's a smart little girl who truly enjoys learning and wants to please. Jemma gets along wonderfully with the dogs in her foster home as well as visiting canine friends. She enjoys playing and would likely do well with another friendly dog who can continue to build her confidence. Because of her past, Jemma is still cautious around new people. She can become nervous when meeting strangers and may bark or appear unsure until she realizes she's safe. Her forever family will need to understand that trust isn't given immediately—it is earned. Once Jemma knows you're one of her people, she is incredibly loyal, loving, and devoted. Jemma has already come so far, and we know her best days are still ahead of her. She's looking for a patient family willing to give her the time she needs to settle in and let her amazing personality continue to shine. Please no children under the age of 13.  If you're the kind of person who believes the most rewarding relationships are built on patience, kindness, and trust, Jemma is waiting to show you just how special she truly is. Could you be the one she's been waiting for?  I have been spayed, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative and microchipped.
