Story
Presley is a very sweet senior Chi that came to us with some leg stiffness due to a luxating patella that is frozen in place and a large growth on her toe on her hind leg. We have had it checked out and have scheduled a biopsy to determine if the mass under the cyst is malignant or benign so Presley will not be available until after the first of the year when we have that done and have received the results back. She does attached to a human which is a typical Chi and is very sweet! She was great with body handling at the vet!February 6, 2026, 5:54 pm

Story
Cookie and Tiny are a bonded *we think* set of Chihuahua's that are fairly new to BR. Cookie is the larger one at around 8lbs and fairly tall, and Tiny is smaller at around 4lbs but needs to maybe gain a pound or so. They are both recently spayed and neutered and since that time Tiny's obsession with Cookie has abated a bit so we are now not 100% sure that they have to be together-but they come from the same home and get along great so it would be ideal for them to be together! They can bark at strange men especially but did great with our male vet and seem to calm down after spending just a brief amount of time with them. Cookie especially is a kisser and loves to love on people-awwww! They are becoming better with other dogs now that they settled a bit and as the hormones go out of their system we hope that will improve even more. Tiny was a marker when we first got him but that is definitely diminishing! Cookie can be vocal when left so would not do good in an apartment setting.February 17, 2026, 11:38 am

Story
Zippy is relatively new to Bonaparte's Retreat. We know that he is experiencing some extreme anxiety from his previous trauma so we have started him on Prozac recently and he is the second week of that and it may be a medication he would need to be on for life so that is something a potential adopter would need to know.  Zippy is 10000% Chihuahua and will attach to one person as they do, but he can be reactive with the other humans in the home that he is not bonded with so we are thinking he would do best in a home with one person either male or female. He will also take a while to warm up to someone so they would need to know that going in as well...and he can be very vocal until he feels comfy so we are not thinking he would be appropriate in an apartment/condo setting. He is ok with other dogs though and did come with a canine brother but they are not bonded so he will not be coming with Zippy. We would not recommend Zippy be in a home with children and would recommend someone be very careful with Zippy around children. He will be very vocal and a meet & greet as well and potentially reactive if we dont keep a slow and soft vibe so keep that in mind.  He has come a LOOONG way since he has been with his fosters but he does still have a ways to go...but we think having him move to a home where he can heavily bond and continue his growth may be the best route for him so he is available for adoption now. He can be VERY loving with the person he does bond with after he feels safe so his new person will have that to look forward too and will feel like they won a medal when that happens!February 23, 2026, 12:29 pm
