Story
Tidbit is a teeny 10lb senior little who in incredibly sweet but does have a laundry list of medical issues including dental disease, luxating patellas, Heartworm, and has a 4/6 heart murmur. He is a very sweet little guy who LOVES to play with other dogs so would do great in a home with another one. He doesn't seem to mind the size of the dog, and seems to want to play with whatever size is in front of him, but another dog seems to really help Tidbit acclimate to his surroundings for sure! We have learned that Tidbit does have storm anxiety but we have some good meds to help him with that! He also visited the vet June 24th and we know that we will be able to neuter him and give him a good dental after he goes through Heartworm treatment, and we also learned that his heart is not yet enlarged so yay for that! He will need to have x-rays every 6 months to check on that progress.  Bonaparte's Retreat will be more than happy to take on the costs for his care.July 11, 2024, 3:57 pm

Story
Meet Punky! She is very sweet and friendly. Punky loves lounging out in the sunshine and hanging out with her people. She is not yappy and plays well with other dogs. Per her previous owner, Punky has a mild chicken allergy so she shouldn't eat any food or treats with chicken in it. She also has a cataract in her right eye. This has limited her vision a bit but you would never know it! Punky has been fabulous in her foster home. They love her and have no complaints! Punky has been to PetSmart with her foster and has gone on lots of long walks. She is an active little girl who loves to explore. She is crate trained and 99.9% house broken (she may have an accident or two when adjusting to a new home). From her foster: "Punky is a perfect mix of playful energy and couch potato. She enjoys meeting people, snuggling, playing with toys, car rides, and being outside. She might be a little bossy with other dogs, but can enjoy their company too. And despite her size, she isn't a "yappy" dog." To apply, please complete the foster application at www.shelterluv.com/matchme/foster/PSTR/Dog -- this is the foster application. We ask potential adopters to complete a 1 week foster trial period, after which you will be able to adopt Punky if you want!

Story
Baby Bat embodies the personality, uniqueness and likeness of the Batman. First, he works alone. No sidekicks or partners. He prefers solitude and his space. Baby Bat has lived with his foster and her dog pack for 5 years, he gets along with them but tolerates them at most. He would do well in a home where he is the only dog, no children, and adults only. Next, Baby Bat is an apex predator. Which means he needs his sleep and food and not to be interrupted or coddled when given either. Baby Bat is not a lap or cuddly dog. Finally, did we mention Baby Bat is a Chihuahua mix? That's a really important detail! Baby Bat is a great and loyal dog seeking a great family to adopt him! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area - $50 Temporary Fuel Charge will be added)

Story
TEXAS ADOPTION ONLY Grandpa Lucky I have the weirdest name. What is that? "Grandpa Lucky. Sounds like I had a lot of luck in my short life, but I am not quite sure of all that. I just look like a Grandpa because I have lived outside most of the time and it is hard on a fella. I am only about 6 years old we think. First off, I was fished out of a river and taken to the city dog pound. I can't tell you how I got into the river, but foster mom suspects I had a little help with that. Well, it was lucky that I got fished out, but then I went to the city pound where I had 3 days before my time was up...literally. But then I got lucky again because foster mom saw me and just had to have me to foster so I got a ticket out of there. I was a pretty skinny dude when she got me, and it wasn't too long before she discovered that I love to eat. She noticed that I was having a little trouble walking on my back legs and that wasn't so good so when we got me checked out, it turns out that I have a little compression of my T4 to T6 vertebrae, whatever that is. Not good. But the vet lady said that nothing needed to be done for that so that was lucky. So, when I get a little tired, I hop like a bunny and the other times when I feel good, I walk like a regular dog. I had some tests done on my blood and I have worms living in my heart of all places. I am told that is not good. But it is lucky for me that foster mommy is giving me the medicines to kill those little varmints over time and not all at once. She said it is easier on me if we do it this way. Plus, it is lucky that I get the medicine in a little bit of tasty food that I love. Did I tell you I like to eat? About that, foster mommy tells me I can't gain too much weight, or it will be too hard on my joints and back and that won't be good. Aren't I lucky to have her to take care of me? The one complaint I have with foster mommy is that she doesn't have enough time to let me sleep in her lap during the day. I would like to have a lap in my new forever home and someone who will love me as much as foster mommy does. Because of the medicines that I am taking to kill the worms in my heart, we are looking for a forever home in the San Antonio area so I wouldn't have to travel so far. Besides having a lap to sleep in during the day, I want to sleep in the bed with you at night. I can't jump off the bed though but being with you all the time is what I want. Then I would really feel lucky! $200 Local adoption fee (in Texas)

Story
Looking for a refreshing blast of energy? Look no further! This scrappy, smart, and pretty Chihuahua mix will knock your socks off! Topo Chico is a high energy dog and an overall good boy. He is crate and potty trained, good with other dogs, and okay with kids (he's mostly experienced kids while leashed). Chico has not had much exposure with cats so slow introductions will be needed if you have any. Topo Chico is an explorative and curious dog who loves to play around in the backyard. He's had more experience with a harness and leash than collar and leash so please be careful if you use a collar and leash. Chico, while trapped in the body of a Chihuahua, really wants to be a Doberman guard dog. He barks relentlessly at people who pass by and small prey animals like squirrels or chipmunks. Hey it's not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog! Chico loves affection and will make a great addition to any family. Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area - $50 Temporary Fuel Charge will be added)

Story
This is Buddy, and he can't wait to be yours! Buddy is a sweet young Pug mix that started life off as a feral, until he was caught by a sweet and loving foster. Buddy got the good life after that! Spoiled with treats and given so much love he's developed into a great dog. Currently, Buddy is on bedrest after completing heartworm treatment so he needs lots of love and patience while he's resting and recovering. He's a very friendly boy and does great with pretty much everyone. He would do best in a household with an active family. Buddy does tend to bark at smaller animals so he would do best in a household that doesn't have farm animals or other small pets. Dogs and cats he is fine with, though he has not had much experience with cats. Buddy would do well paired with another calm and confident dog. Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX)

Story
Charlie is an absolute DOLL of a senior Pomeranian. She is relatively new to Bonaparte's Retreat but we do know that she is VERY sweet! She is very overweight, has at least a moderately collapsed trachea, and has a benign fatty mass on her chest. We have started her on a low fat diet to assist with her weightloss and when we can get some weight off of her the vet is hopeful that will help both the size of the mass and the coughing associated with the trachea. Charlie does great in a home and has been a joy to her fosters and we will keep you posted when she is available for adoption! She is also good with cats and other dogs!July 11, 2024, 3:57 pm
