It was a tough decision but one that had to be done. Gemma is as sweet as they come and very friendly. She LOVES attention and will follow you where ever you go in the house and yard. She gets along great with other dogs male and female but please no big dogs because as little as she is and never having been around a big dog they would scare her too much. We are also saying no to cats mainly because she’s never been around on and we have no way of properly testing her with a cat. If you are looking for a love bug then Gemma would be the one for you but understand she has never been an only dog so we’ll only consider people that have another young, small dog to keep her company while you have to be out of the home. Our must haves for Gemma are: • Fenced in yard • Someone that can be home more than not • Another young, small dog for her to play with and cuddle with • No apartments, high rises or condos since she like other Dachshunds likes to bark If you think you can give Gemma the home she deserves please apply online and go through the approval process. ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal. There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered. We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3. Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form. Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.

Story
'Sabi is an adorable mix of beagle and chihuahua (a 14 lb. "cheagle") without the typical barking, yapping, and baying. Sabi is mainly auburn, light tan, and black, with black “eyeliner” around his eyes and dabs of white on his paws that accentuate his prancing when he goes on a walk. He's quiet and loving, and enjoys when he is the center of your attention. Wasabi is very much a puppy, in that he loves to jump and run inside the house, but what sets him apart is that he wants to please his people. Sabi works hard to curb the nipping and humping that comes naturally to him, and has great self-regulation. He also is a good guard dog, in that when my husband came in, he had an impressive bark before he realized that he knew that human. When his family wants to lay down for a nap, he settles right down and snuggles in like a true member of the pack. Sabi has a lot of personality, which comes out after you gain his trust. He is a bit fearful of strangers and strange dogs on the street, so this is an area that we’re working on little by little. He needs a family that has time to spend with him. We are also house training him, and he is learning to pee and poo outside with the help of small treats. He loves his chew toys and he is very food-motivated. We have his crate in our bedroom, and he settles right down about 9 or 10PM when we all go to bed. He has a sister up for adoption named Tahini and mom named Kimchi, if you’re in the market for two or three pups!
