Story
Meet Honey! Fostered in east TN, Athens TN! Out of state welcome. Transport available to areas northeast or Great Lakes and is included in the adoption fee as stated here on adopt a pet. We use rescue riders for all our pet transport needs because they are the best. Meet Honey! This sweet little girl is a hot mess right now with her skin. She was so severely infested with fleas. She has scratched herself raw and has some hairloss. Rest assured she is feeling better now after being tested for fleas and getting relief from the itching. Her coat should come back full and pretty. She’s a tad shy at first meet but doesn’t take very long to warm up to new people. She is reserved and a bit independent which is typical of the breed. If you think she is cute that’s great but be sure to read up on the common traits of Chows. They aren’t typically cuddly lap dogs they can sweet natured but they don’t crave to be petted as much as other dogs. They are also not all aggressive as rumor has it. This girl is not aggressive at all. She does great with the other dogs, she would do best in a home with older teenage to young adult children simply because she is weary and shy around lots of activity. She is very confident at the same time she is shy. It’s a strange combination but she shows behaviors that tell us once she is comfortable she is going to be a confident girlie. She is spayed, current on vaccines, microchipped, heartworm negative and started on flea and tick preventives as well as heartworm preventives. She is only 33 lbs and will not get any bigger. We believe she is about two years old. She is crate trained and potty trained too. Her ideal home would be one with a fenced yard, older teenager or young adult kids no small children, active or non active family that understands her breed needs of being independent. She seems to be fine with other dogs that respect her space and doesn’t seem to need a doggie companion but would do ok with one. Please apply at pet path.org

Story
Sage is a bold and intelligent mixed breed dog, with a heart of gold. She is affectionate and attentive, but also silly and independent. Sage had puppies with us, and one of the puppies had a DNA test done. We therefore know that she is a makeup of very many breeds, predominantly Pitbull and Chow. Sage is super duper clean, and very food motivated. She will fly through the air for as little as a kibble. Sage is a lot of fun to train, she follows a lure great, and knows commands like 'jump' 'down' and 'crawl'. Sage is dog selective, but leash reactive. She should be the only dog in her household. Sage is not getting any applications because she is ugly. She is a soft, snuggly dog who will make you laugh every day. She has humble expectations of what a great life is! We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! **Video of him can be seen on our Facebook page here and here.** Mark seems to have the best of both breeds. intelligence and loyalty. Mark is great to walk and very eager to please his handler. He seems to know basic commands too! Online Dog Adoption Forms: : https://wacshelter.com/adopt-a-dog/ Website for general questions: www.wacshelter.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wacshelter/ Email: wacvolunteers@gmail.com ** Be sure to check out our FACEBOOK page for day to day updates on our cats and dogs. Canine adoption fee includes: Spay/neuter Age appropriate vaccinations Deworming Flea prevention (if required) Heartworm screening/monthly prevention ** Volunteer dog walkers work with our dogs 7 days a week. What your adoption fee also includes is housetraining, leash walking and a good understanding of the kind of home each dog would thrive in. ADOPTION FEE: $ 150 "People who say money can't buy you happiness, have never paid an adoption fee...." IS THIS DOG SAFE WITH CATS? There is almost always an acclimation period when a new pet joins the household. We are happy to suggest a few ways to ease the transition. If one of our dogs is reported to have lived with cats previously, that will be indicated in the dog's description! IS THIS DOG GOOD WITH OTHER DOGS? No dog loves every other dog, just as humans do not like every other human they meet. A proper introduction (meet and greet) would be required as part of our application process. IS THIS DOG GOOD WITH CHILDREN? The better question is how the children have been taught to handle animals. A dog will respond negatively if he/she is not being handled properly. We can offer suggestions on how to teach children to interact with dogs and pay attention to body language. Young children should never be left unsupervised with new dogs. WHY IS THIS DOG IN THE SHELTER? The top reasons dogs are given up are: Moving without considering the needs of the pets Death of the owner with no plan in place for the pets Previous owner did not provide appropriate training Owner did not consider the lifespan of a dog Owner did not consider the cost of providing for a dog
