Story
Squid is a sweet guy who's come a long way since arriving at the shelter. Found as a stray, he was very nervous when he first came in, but with time and patience, he's started to show us his playful and affectionate personality. While Squid may be a little unsure of new people at first, once he knows you, you'll see what a fun-loving companion he can be. He enjoys attention, playtime, and spending time with his favorite people. He can get a little mouthy during excitement, so he would love a family committed to helping him learn good manners and continue growing into the best version of himself. Squid has not shown positive reactions to other dogs here at the shelter, so we believe he would be happiest as the only dog in the home. If you're looking for a loyal companion who just needs someone willing to give him a chance, Squid is ready to show you how much love he has to give! 3159 Susquehanna Trail N York PA 17406 Kennel #3537

Story
TYRON is a 5 year old Chow Chow / German Shepherd who came to us when his owner’s living arrangements changed. He flunked the intake exam at several other shelters so here he is and we are still trying to figure him out. Tyron is a big boy! He doesn’t like a lot of physical touch but he LOVES his walks! Tyron will allow us to briefly brush his top line and pull out a few puffs but he is generally grumbly with handling and we fully sedated him at the vet for his spring shave. Tyron appears to want to play with other dogs and his previous owner took him to the dog park (which we don’t recommend but it does show that he may be fine living with another pup). Tyron needs an experienced dog savvy family who can work around his quirks to make him be all the dog he can be. We are looking for an adult-only home within reasonable driving distance so that we can facilitate several meet and greets and slowly integrate Tyron into your home. Tyron has been vaccinated, tested negative for heartworms and tick borne diseases, is microchipped and neutered. Please fill out an application at www.CompAnimals.org if you are interested in providing a home for Tyron. Adoption $200. March 7, 2026, 5:36 pm

Story
If relaxation were an Olympic sport, Chelsea would have a gold medal (and probably be napping on the podium). This laid-back lady is all about the simple joys in life: gentle pets, cozy couches, and leisurely strolls around the neighborhood where she can take in the sights at her own pace. Chelsea isn’t in a rush—she’s more of a “stop and smell the roses (and maybe sit next to them for a while)” kind of girl. She’s the perfect match for someone who enjoys quiet evenings, soft blankets, and a loyal buddy who’s always down to hang out. Available at the Animal Rescue League of Berks County, Birdsboro Pa 19508, KL#1257

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.Harley is such a great dog! A note from his foster:  He’s perfectly well-behaved in the house. House-trained, gentle and happily goes into his crate at night or when asked. He’s smart and knows some commands. Seems to take satisfaction from pleasing humans, with just enough personality to make you laugh. He knows enough to test boundaries, but quickly course-corrects. This pup is grateful for getting the pets and is thrilled with the bully-rub.  He’s happy to nap by your feet during work calls, lay in the sun, and eager to go for walks. Good on a leash. Happy to sit for his harness and takes commands well when leaving the house. His prey drive is high — gets too excited about squirrels, most birds, other critters that scurry. He’s not well-suited for other dogs. Or cats.  He’s got some hound in his mix; loves to sniff and on the occasions when a siren would pass he would sing along. (Adorable.) Not a crazy barker, but can sound fierce when he does bark. He’s more of a gentle giant with humans. Did just fine with new people coming into the home. Sheds a lot!  Harley would live his best life in a home where he’s the only pet. A privacy-fenced yard to run free in would be nice, I suspect, but he’s seemingly just as happy to live in a city and go for walks a few times a day. Contact with other dogs would have to be limited.  He’s the perfect dog if you’re looking for a loyal best friend, and don’t have other pets.  Due to his being dog selective, we will only place Admiral in a home with childern 14 and older.
