Story
Koda Final In Summary: - [ ] Koda is perfect. - [ ] 1-2 years old - [ ] 43 pounds - [ ] Neutered male - [ ] Has all shots - [ ] Likes other dogs and kids - [ ] Cats are questionable - [ ] Very athletic, smart, and social - [ ] Looking for Forever Home Now get comfortable for the story: Koda was abandoned in a small town in Texas. He has really good taste, so he found a nice house and notified the owners that he was moving in. They were perplexed, but what could they do? They started feeding him. However, their two Sphynx cats were adamantly against having another pet in the home, or even in the yard. They started behaving so badly that the owners realized they had to find another home for Koda. The family had tried to locate his actual owner, but of course, no one came to take Koda home. The high-kill shelter in their small town euthanizes dogs after 3 days, so that obviously wasn’t an option. The family contacted Furever Friends and Rescue and begged for help to find Koda a home. Luckily, a volunteer made room for him because he is such a very good boy, and Koda moved across the street to a foster home. He decided that although it wasn’t his first choice, it was OK. Koda moved his stuff into his new place. Koda was introduced to a new vet, and everyone there loved him immediately. He got all his shots and was neutered. He was declared to be a healthy 43 pounds. His jet black fur was shiny and his eyes were bright and intelligent. He was ready to start his search for a forever home. Koda wants a family of his own more than anything. He loves his foster family because they have trained him to walk on a leash, to be house trained, to use a doggy door, and to enjoy his crate when the family isn’t at home with him. They’ve taught him to sit patiently for food (a work in progress!) and to take treats gently. He knows some basic commands and is learning more every day. But Koda wants to be in his very own forever home. Koda thinks his perfect home would include a human who is active and who appreciates an active dog that would participate in all of his human’s activities. Koda is very athletic, and he likes to be right beside his human as much as possible. When walking with his human, Koda never takes his eyes off of them, and he frequently puts his nose in their palm to reassure the human that he is still right beside them. Koda is still young, maybe 1-2 years old, so he has lots of energy to spend with his family. However, Koda also knows how to settle at the end of the day. He is an experienced cuddler and couch potato when the opportunity arises. He likes to watch football and doesn’t get offended when his people yell at the tv. He will joyfully join in and bark his opinions of the play! Koda enjoys camping and hiking, but sometimes gets distracted by a squirrel (who doesn’t?) and will need to be gently reminded that squirrels aren’t toys. Koda has been on several trips with his foster family, and he is a wonderful traveler. He enjoys mountains and canyons, but prefers not to be outside for long in desert areas because black fur gets hot! Koda has expressed a wish to vacation on a lake or beach in the future, and he would be a great candidate to train on a paddle board or surfboard. Koda is also an excellent city dog. He joins in on walks in the morning and afternoon. Evening walks are often followed by dinner at a dog friendly restaurant. Koda sits quietly beside his human or lays under the table, and people often don’t notice him because his fur is in “supreme stealth mode.” (He plans to trademark that phrase.) When he is noticed, he is people-friendly and loves the attention and pets - as long as his people are OK with it. Koda also has a “protect mode” that automatically engages if his people feel uncomfortable or threatened. He is an excellent watch dog as well, and when his “protect mode” is engaged his black shiny fur and gleaming white teeth are quite terrifying. However, Koda is so smart that he understands when his people tell him everything is Ok, and he will sit quietly and wait for his next command. Koda is very gentle with children of all ages, but smaller children may be knocked over in his exuberance. He would enjoy kids of his own to play with, and maybe a young and active dog sibling. Neither are required for his happiness, though. Koda would be just as happy as an only child. Sadly, some smaller dogs don’t seem to like Koda because he is very active and they are fearful of being knocked over or stepped on. But occasionally a smaller dog decides that the shiny black fur looks really comfortable, and they cuddle up with him. Go figure. Larger dogs sometimes don’t like his energy either, but when he finds that perfect dog match, their playtime is a joy for the dogs and their humans. Koda’s recent experience with the sphynx cats has soured his opinion of all cats. He would probably need a cat-free home, but it’s possible that he might make an exception. It would have to be on a case by case basis with a dog-experienced cat. If you can’t tell from this narrative, Koda’s foster family loves him and wants the very best for him. He is very deserving of a wonderful family who will dedicate their lives to his wellbeing. He is very smart, adaptable, and nearly perfect. Could you be the lucky family who gets to experience life with this very good boy? If you’re interested in meeting Koda, please fill out the adoption application at the link below. There’s no obligation for filling it out, but because Koda is being fostered in Childress, TX, the rescue does require an approved application before arranging a meet and greet. Costello is a 4-month-old, 20-pound Chow Chow puppy who’s equal parts adorable fluff and sweet, gentle spirit. He LOVES people and is wonderful with other dogs — playful, friendly, and happy to make new friends wherever he goes. Like all Chow Chows, Costello will thrive with an adopter who understands the breed’s unique traits and is committed to continued socialization, confidence building, and positive experiences as he grows. He’s still a baby, so he’ll need guidance with house training and learning how to walk politely on a leash, but he’s eager to learn and so easy to fall in love with. If you’re ready to invest in a smart, stunning pup who will be loyal for life, Costello just might be your perfect match! Please understand you are committing to providing a good home for his entire life (up to 15+ years or more) - not just until his puppy cuteness wears off. You must be committed to housebreaking, age-appropriate enrichment and exercise, leash training, grooming needs, and positive socialization. Like most puppies, he may chew on anything within his reach to include but not limited to baseboards, shoes, socks, children's toys, electrical cords, plants, etc. His adoption fee is $350. This includes his neuter surgery, rabies vaccination, Nobivac® Canine 1-DAPP vaccinations, Bravecto®, Drontal® Plus, Tri-Heart® Plus Chewable Tablet, 24PetWatch® microchip, and leash and collar.
