Now safe in Wisconsin and slowly discovering what it means to feel at home
Cora is an 8-month-old, 42-pound Chow mix who came from a heartbreaking past. Originally found as a terrified stray in Georgia, she had to be humanely trapped and spent her shelter days completely shut down — quietly staring at the walls, overwhelmed and unsure. But today, Cora is settling into her foster home in Wisconsin, and she’s already showing just how resilient and special she truly is.
Since arriving, Cora has been adjusting beautifully to life in a home. She’s still timid with new people, but she’s learning that humans can be kind. She takes treats gently, is beginning to understand that pets can feel good, and is slowly coming out of her shell. She is absolutely not aggressive, just more on the shy side of things, but is coming out of her shell more and more every day. She is starting to give kisses and likes to get some pets now.
Cora loves other dogs and would thrive in a home with one or more friendly pups to help build her confidence. She enjoys playing with her foster siblings, gets along with everyone, and tends to be on the submissive side. She’s also cat-friendly, which makes her an even easier fit for many homes. You can tell she is still a puppy because the more comfortable she gets, the more she gets goofy and wants to play.
Some of Cora’s new favorites? Toys and bones! She’s just learning how fun they can be. She does great in her crate — she’s quiet, not destructive, and settling into a routine. She's walking well on leash, and while potty training is still in progress, she’s only had one accident so far and clearly understands that potty happens outside.
Cora is a sweet, gentle soul with a rough past. She’ll need a patient adopter who can give her the time and space to keep building trust. In return, she’ll grow into a truly amazing companion — loyal, loving, and full of quiet strength.

Cora will need a very special adopter or foster — someone extremely patient, understanding, and experienced with fearful dogs. She is currently a flight risk, so we require a securely fenced yard for her placement.
We don’t know what Cora experienced before she came to us, but it clearly left deep emotional scars. In the shelter, she was just surviving — not living. We believe that in the safety of a home, with time, love, and routine, she has the potential to transform into a completely different dog.
If you’re ready to help Cora take the first steps toward healing, please consider fostering or adopting her.
Apply today to give Cora the second chance she deserves.
