Story
Gretta is 2-yrs-old and weighs about 23 lbs. We’re not sure of her breed mix, but we’re thinking possibly Westie or some other terrier type? Believe it or not, her mom was a 9-lb chihuahua! Her hair is straight and soft white and beige, and sheds very little if at all. Gretta has lived in one household her entire life, so she is somewhat under-socialized. She is very cautious and standoffish with strangers. She lacks confidence but is slowly getting past it and will improve with more gentle socialization. A new adopter will have to be patient with her and coax her to be closer. She likes other dogs after she knows she is safe with them, and she likes to play. Toys are also fun for her. But she’s definitely got that terrier prey drive, and will want to go after small animals like hamsters or newborn puppies and kittens, so we would not recommend a home with cats or smaller pets. Gretta is potty trained her foster home and uses a dog door. She may need some re-training to learn your routine and your expectations, but if you start out taking her to the desired pee spot, she will remember after a few trips. She is trustworthy. She’s not an escape artist, as she prefers to stick to what she already knows. She doesn’t have much experience walking on leash, so she will need some encouragement to get used to leash-walking, if that’s something you want to do. She is very healthy and strong, and I’m sure she will enjoy it once she gets used to it. Gretta is a kindhearted and gentle soul, and she will cuddle up if encouraged. She is a sweet girl who prefers to sit next to her human, but not necessarily directly on your lap (which is good because she’s 23 lbs!). She cooperates well with a kind and gentle voice, but yelling will scare her, and it may take her awhile to regain composure. She’s accustomed to sleeping in the big bed at night with all the other dogs; she does not like the crate at all. Gretta would do best in a home with an existing dog who will want to play with her, can teach her the routine, and help her to learn that she doesn’t have to be afraid. If you are interested in meeting and possibly adopting Gretta, the first step is to submit an adoption application. Story
Nikki is my mom’s dog but my mom is in a memory care facility. Nikki came to live with us about 2 years ago and for a while I was able to drop her at my mom’s for day visits but she can’t contain Nikki’s energy and she runs around a bit which scares other tenants. We already have two larger dogs that are jealous and the three haven’t bonded - no fighting but the others watch whatever Nikki does and it’s just not best for her. She is about 6yrs old now and was “only child” for my widowed mom for 4 years so would love to be back in a space with a lot of attention. She is super sweet and was raised sitting on laps. Loves her toys and playing catch (or at least retrieving when she misses) and tug of war. She a good walker on leash and loves her treats (greenies and ckn sticks). Her understanding of what is and isn’t a toy is lacking so she’ll grab things but easily diverted with a fav toy or treat. She does bark with noises and sometimes we need a vibration collar to quiet if too excited.

Story
We have a transport where we will be personally taking our dogs home leaving on 4/25/25 to NorCal and OR. Surrounding states will be added to our route if needed ☺️ We would love to add Zack to our trip for the right home 💕 Meet Zack! He turned 1 year of age on 3/3/25. He is a Maltese/poodle mix. He weighs 11.64 lbs. Yes, he is full grown and at a very healthy weight. He definitely has more of the Maltese coat in look and texture. Yes, he is hypoallergenic so you won't have to worry about him shedding. He is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines, had a thourel exam with our vet, and has officially been cleared to find a home all his own. He is house trained, and will go outside to use the restroom as needed throughout the day when asked to. If he doesn't need to go outside, he simply will stay back. He gets asked to go potty every 3 hours or so, and with that schedule he rarely asks to be let out in between but when he does he will sit by the door patiently for you to open it for him. He is not fond of the crate. We have attempted to condition him to it and while he isn't destructive in one, he just does not like being confined and will cry. He will gladly lay on a dog bed behind a gate that would section off a smaller area as it's a more open feel and he doesn't mind that one bit! He is also amazing in the house, so he doesn't need to be confined if you ask me. He currently sleeps on a dog bed under our bed 😂 he loves to be cozy in his little cave under there. I just believe he has learned that it's cooler and the morning sun doesn't get him under there! He is leash trained, and really loved his walks! He is naturally social and really enjoys strolling around especially if he gets to greet friendly neighbors walking their dogs 💕 He is not a barker and is rather quiet. He makes a great friend, especially to a home where you are missing the love of a little companion. He is not needy by any means, and knows your day can get busy so he will find a bed to snooze on near by while you tend to other things. Trust me that he will always be ready for you once you are able to focus back on him! His little eyes light up, and you can feel the joy radiating from him knowing he is about to get some much needed daytime snuggles ☺️ He is amazing with other dogs, and cats alike! He would make anyone's home more complete, and lives happier than they have ever been so if you are wanting the love of a special friend, choose Zack!!! He is amazing on road trips of any length, and loves days spent getting all dolled up with his groomer!!! He is just an absolute wonderful boy looking for a home all his own so if that's you please contact us today 🌸 His adoption fee is on our website at the bottom of his adoption listing at https://www.breadoflifek9refuge.org/post/_zack It covers all of his vet care. He is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines, and had two ear infections that had to be treated while with us that required having the hair plucked out of both ears, an antibiotic injection, an allergy injection, and antibiotics to go home that was applied to both ears. It also covers the care involved in the time he has been with us, his grooming costs, and his training we have personally done with him!
