He’s sturdy enough for everyday adventures and playtime with other dogs while still being a wonderfully manageable size to take along wherever life leads. Bobby came to us after his previous owner experienced the heartbreaking loss of her husband. With so many unexpected life changes following his passing, she needed to move in with her daughter and grandchildren, where there were already other dogs in the home. She loved Bobby very much and ultimately felt that everything changing around him wasn’t the life she wanted for him. She reached out to us so that we could give him some stability while finding the loving family and forever home he deserved. When Bobby arrived, his coat was significantly matted and unfortunately couldn’t be saved. His previous owner had been going through an incredibly difficult season in her life, and his grooming needs had simply gotten away from her. Our groomer gave Bobby a fresh start and took his coat down short, and his beautiful Cockapoo coat is already growing back in. With routine brushing and professional grooming moving forward, he’ll have all of that fluffy hair back before long. Bobby can be a little shy when he first meets someone new, but he’s really more observant than anything. He simply likes a moment to take you in, figure out who you are, and become familiar with you. He warms up quickly, and once you become his person, he will love you with absolutely everything he has to give. He’s a very sweet, happy boy who gets genuinely excited when he sees us walking through the door. His overall demeanor is quiet and serene, and he isn’t a barker. He’s also not a high-energy dog. Bobby loves his walks and enjoys being included in whatever his people are doing outside of the home, but he’s equally content spending a lazy afternoon lounging around with you for as long as you’d like. Bobby is wonderful with other dogs and has done beautifully with the different personalities and sizes he’s encountered while with us. He is house trained and does wonderfully about going outside when asked. He’s also great on road trips and around town, making him such an easy little companion to bring along. At night, Bobby sleeps peacefully through the entire night in his crate. He’s very comfortable with his bedtime routine, but I could absolutely see him transitioning to sleeping on a dog bed beside his future owner if that’s where they would eventually prefer him to be. He is wonderful at the groomers as well, which will be important throughout his life. Regular brushing and professional grooming will need to remain part of his routine to keep his coat healthy and comfortable. Bobby received a wonderful overall examination with our veterinarian and is fully vetted. He is neutered, microchipped, and current on his vaccines. And of course, how could I possibly say no to that sweet face? 🩷 Those are the moments when you realize just how much love she has inside her. One of the things I love most about Sadie is the trust she has developed in us. She isn’t a barker and doesn’t react by making a scene. I would especially love to see Sadie in a home with a calmer, more predictable atmosphere, where she can settle into a routine and continue building her confidence without feeling overwhelmed. That doesn’t mean she needs a life without adventure or new experiences. Quite the opposite! I would love for her to continue discovering all the wonderful things the world has to offer. She simply needs someone who understands that confidence is built through positive experiences, patience, and trust rather than being rushed into situations before she is ready. And once she knows she can count on you, I believe there will be very little she won’t eventually be willing to experience by your side. Sadie is house trained and has been wonderfully consistent with our daily routine. When we ask her to go outside to use the restroom, she understands what we’re asking and does very well. She has established good habits here, and I would encourage her future family to continue communicating with her and maintaining a consistent schedule as she settles into her new surroundings. She is also crate trained and sleeps peacefully in her crate throughout the entire night. She settles in comfortably and has no trouble resting until morning. While she does beautifully with this arrangement, I can certainly imagine her enjoying a little bed beside yours, or even sharing your bed if that’s something you prefer. I have a feeling she would be more than happy to agree to any arrangement that allows her to be a little closer to the person she loves! 🩷 Her leash training has been coming along beautifully, and she genuinely enjoys going for walks. It’s one of the ways we have been able to help her experience new things while continuing to build her confidence. She enjoys exploring alongside someone familiar, and with each positive experience, she becomes a little more comfortable with the world beyond what she already knows. I would love to see her future family continue those walks, allowing her to explore and discover new surroundings while always knowing she has someone she trusts beside her. She also does very well during her grooming appointments. Our groomer has gotten to know her sweet personality, and Sadie seems to believe that grooming appointments should include plenty of affection along the way! She enjoys being loved on so much that our groomer makes sure to give her little snuggles between the different parts of her appointment. 😊 It’s another beautiful example of how affectionate she becomes once she’s comfortable with someone. Sadie’s journey to us began when her previous family experienced a change in their living circumstances. They had moved into a smaller apartment and, unfortunately, found themselves unable to afford the additional pet fees required to keep her there with them. As much as they would have loved to continue sharing their lives with her, the financial responsibilities associated with their new home made that impossible. They made the difficult decision to entrust her to our care, hoping we could provide her with the stability and love she needed while finding a family who could offer her a permanent place to call home. Sadie has now been with us for approximately two months, and during that time, we have had the privilege of getting to know the wonderful little soul behind those thoughtful eyes. We have given her the space to become comfortable, encouraged her through unfamiliar experiences, continued her daily training and socialization, and most importantly, allowed her to discover that she is safe, loved, and understood. Her veterinary care has also been completed, and she has received a wonderful overall report from our veterinarian. Sadie has been spayed, is current on her vaccinations, and has been microchipped. She underwent a thorough veterinary examination and was cleared to begin looking for a home of her own, with a health certificate issued by our veterinarian. During her examination, our vet noticed some very mild redness in her ears consistent with a possible allergy flare-up. There were no other visible signs of allergies elsewhere, and her ears otherwise looked very good. As a precaution, she received an allergy injection, along with Posatex, a medicated ear treatment applied to both ears to address the remaining irritation. The redness resolved following treatment, and we have not experienced any further flare-ups during her time with us. Sadie has been doing wonderfully on her lamb-protein diet, and while we suspect her previous diet may have contributed to the irritation, we cannot say that with certainty. At this time, there are no ongoing symptoms that have caused us concern, although I would encourage her future family to remain mindful of her history and monitor for any recurrence, as allergies can sometimes be seasonal or related to environmental or dietary factors. Aside from that mild episode, her examination went beautifully, and she has been doing wonderfully. At 13.7 pounds, she is fully grown, maintaining a healthy weight, and ready for the next chapter of her life. What I hope most for Sadie is that someone will read her story and recognize the incredible gift that comes with earning the trust of a dog like her. She may not be the little girl who runs into your arms the very first moment she meets you. She may need a little time to understand who you are, to become familiar with your voice, your routine, and the way you move through the world. Meet Phoebe. This gentle girl was found as a stray in San Jose and taken to the shelter. Phoebe's foster mom describes her as a "pretty, petite, sweet girl. She walks nicely on a leash and is friendly to all she meets, both dogs and people. Phoebe is a velcro girl. She wants to stay close to her person. She rides well in the car. Phoebe has a quiet, calm, sweet personality." Phoebe needs to be in a home with a yard and with someone that can be home the majority of the time. Met Libby. This sweet girl joined the NorCal family when she was found wandering around a neighborhood. After some checking, it was discovered that she had been rescued from a hoarding situation and adopted to a family that did not want her. Libby is a total sweetheart. She is still somewhat shy, but appears to be blossoming everyday. She will come to you for pets, but is still not quite ready to jump in your lap. She gets a long well with other dogs, walks easily on a leash and rides well in the car. She is not showing any aggression or reactivity. Libby needs a yard to explore and someone that can be home with her the majority of the time. Libby has been to the vet and has a clean bill or health. We would love to add Lacey to our trip for the right family 😊 Meet Lacey, our beautiful Cavapoo girl, born November 11, 2024, weighing 16.2 pounds of pure happiness, love, and personality! She is fully grown, at a wonderfully healthy weight, and has one of those extraordinary little spirits that makes it nearly impossible to be around her without smiling. 🩷 There are some dogs you meet who take a little time to introduce themselves, and then there is Lacey, who has absolutely never met a stranger in her life! 😂 I will never forget the very first moment I met her. Her mom was holding her in her arms, and Lacey was so overcome with excitement at the sight of someone new that she quite literally jumped out of her arms, ran straight over to me, and immediately rolled onto her back, belly up, asking for belly rubs as though we had been best friends for years! And the moment she received those belly rubs? She jumped right into my arms, completely content and convinced that was exactly where she belonged. That was my introduction to Lacey, and I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect representation of the beautiful soul she is. She is HAPPY. Not just occasionally happy or happy when something exciting is happening, but genuinely, wholeheartedly happy to be alive, to be loved, and to have someone to share her world with. She has this incredible way of making every interaction feel like the best part of her day, whether you’re greeting her after being away, inviting her onto the couch, or simply walking into the same room. Her enthusiasm for life is contagious, and the love she gives is so abundant that I truly believe she is meant to transform someone’s world in a way only she can, with enough love to carry through a few lifetimes and then some. 🩷 Lacey is incredibly friendly, outgoing, affectionate, and spirited, with a personality that is as welcoming as it is joyful. She absolutely adores people and does beautifully with men, women, and children alike. She is equally wonderful with other dogs and cats, making her a lovely candidate for a home with existing furry family members or one where she can enjoy being someone’s one and only. She is naturally social and loves the company of others, but what makes her especially wonderful is how easily she settles into whatever is happening around her. She can be your little adventure companion, happily accompanying you as you venture out into the world, explore somewhere new, or enjoy a beautiful afternoon together. She can just as easily be your lounging companion, curled up beside you while you watch a movie, catch up on your favorite show, or simply enjoy a quiet day at home. She loves to play, loves affection, and loves being included, but she doesn’t need every moment to revolve around excitement. If your day is full of activity, she will happily embrace it. If your day calls for rest, she will be just as content sharing those peaceful moments with you. She has a wonderful ability to adapt to the rhythm of the people she loves, finding joy in the simplest things because, to Lacey, being together is what matters most. She is also a beautifully mannered girl with an established foundation of training that makes sharing a home with her such a pleasure. Lacey is house trained and understands our daily potty routine wonderfully. When we ask the dogs who needs to go outside, she will happily head out if she needs to relieve herself, and if she doesn’t, she simply stays behind. She understands what is being asked of her and has been wonderfully consistent with her routine here. She is crate trained as well and sleeps peacefully in her crate throughout the entire night. She settles in comfortably and understands that nighttime is for resting. While she does beautifully with this arrangement, she is certainly not limited to it. If her future family would prefer having her sleep in a little bed beside theirs, or even snuggled up in bed with them, I believe she would happily welcome either arrangement. She is such an easygoing, adaptable little girl who simply wants to be part of her person’s life, whatever that may look like. Lacey also has the beautiful, poodle-like coat that so many families appreciate in a Cavapoo. Her coat has the soft, curly characteristics of her Poodle heritage and is considered hypoallergenic, making her a wonderful possibility for families seeking a lower-shedding companion, although no dog is guaranteed to be completely allergen-free. As with any Poodle-type coat, regular brushing and professional grooming will be important to keeping her comfortable, healthy, and looking her very best. Her story before coming to us is one of love and a difficult but selfless decision. Lacey was very much loved by her previous owner, who found herself carrying responsibilities that left very little time for the companion she adored. She worked during the day and spent her evenings caring for her mother, leaving her with hardly any time to give Lacey the companionship and attention she knew she deserved. It wasn’t that Lacey was unwanted or that she had done anything wrong. Quite the opposite. Her mom recognized that this beautiful girl had so much love to give and deserved a life where someone could be present for all those little moments that make having a dog so special. Rather than continuing to let the demands of life keep them apart, she made the difficult decision to ask us to take Lacey into our care and find her the incredible person, home, and life she knew was waiting for her. It was a decision made with Lacey’s happiness at heart, and one we are honored to help fulfill. Since joining our family here at Bread of Life K9 Refuge, Lacey has continued to show us just how remarkable she is. She has been surrounded by love, companionship, structure, and daily opportunities to enjoy life while we prepare her for the next beautiful chapter of her story. Her natural confidence, wonderful social skills, and affectionate nature have made her such a joy to have with us. She is one of those dogs who reminds you that sometimes the greatest gifts in life arrive on four little paws, with a wagging tail and a heart that has absolutely no idea how to love halfway. Her veterinary care has been completed, and she is ready to begin her next chapter with a wonderful foundation of health and wellness. Lacey has been spayed, microchipped, and is current on her vaccinations. She has also received a thorough veterinary examination, which went beautifully, including an evaluation of her dental health. Her teeth were found to be in excellent condition, with no dental concerns noted during her examination. At 16.2 pounds, she is fully grown and maintaining a healthy weight. What I hope most for Lacey is that she finds someone who will treasure the very thing that makes her so special: her enormous capacity to love. Someone who will appreciate her enthusiastic greetings, her spontaneous requests for belly rubs, her desire to be close, and the way she can turn even the most ordinary day into something worth celebrating. She doesn’t need a life filled with extravagant adventures or constant entertainment. She simply deserves a life where she is included, cherished, and given the opportunity to love her person as wholeheartedly as she knows how. I can already imagine the happiness she will bring to her future home. The excitement when her family walks through the door, the little moments of laughter that come from her playful personality, the peaceful evenings spent curled up together, and the countless memories that will be made simply by sharing life with her.
