NOTE: Small dogs receive an overwhelming amount of applications, and we will not be able to follow-up with every applicant. The best chance of being selected is to write about yourself when prompted, and wait to hear back. Phone calls and emails regarding the status of your application cannot always be prioritized.***Viewable in Shelter: No, in foster.Meet Vernon!Vernon is 8 and a half years old, but you would never know it. He is a big ball of energy who is not quite ready to embrace the senior life. Vern enjoys going on hikes with his other doggy friends and loves being part of the action. He has been noted to get overly excited on regular walks when he sees other dogs. It can be difficult to get his attention because all he wants to do is go say hello. He may need someone who can manage this overexcitement or continue working on training to help him stay focused. Vernon loves to play with other dogs but can sometimes take it a bit too far, so he would benefit from someone willing to guide him and help him with boundaries.Vern has lived with children and did an amazing job. He would be the perfect companion for someone who is retired or works from home, as he is a smart and adventurous guy who appreciates lots of enrichment, walks, and companionship.Vernon is ready to find someone to spend his golden years with, and he cannot wait to meet you!***Thank you for your interest in adopting! Good with dogs,
Story
My name is Luca. I’m a 2-year-old boy, just 6kg, and a Cocker Spaniel mix with a very gentle heart. I may be so quiet and small that you don’t notice me at first. I’ve learned how to make myself small. I had to. I was rescued from an animal hoarding site where more than 80 dogs lived in a space with barely room to move. To survive there, I curled my body in tight and stayed very still. I didn’t bark. I didn’t fight back. Even when other dogs were rough with me, I endured it silently. That was the only way I knew how to stay safe. Now, for the first time in my life, I’m learning what it means to be in a person’s arms. At first, I’m a little cautious when someone reaches out to me. People are still new to me. But little by little, I’m learning that hands can be warm, gentle, and comforting. As time passes, you’ll see something very special about me. I start to come closer on my own. I sit quietly beside you. I lean into you. That is how I show my heart. That is how I ask for love. I am extremely gentle, very small, and very, very sweet. I sometimes use pee pads, but because home life is completely new to me, I will need patient guidance as I learn. Everything in a home is a new experience for me, and I’m still figuring out the world. Because I lived surrounded by so many dogs for so long, I may feel anxious when left alone. If possible, I hope to find a family who can spend a lot of time with me and help me feel safe. I spent my life curled up in dark, crowded spaces just trying to protect myself. Now, I’m hoping to learn how to relax, how to lean on someone, and how to live wrapped in love. I’m waiting for my first… and last… real family. Love, Luca 🐶

Story
Meet Landon — Our Gentle Little Old Man Landon is a senior sweetheart, estimated to be 10 years old or possibly olde. Despite being both blind and deaf, this remarkable gentleman is incredibly adaptable and moves through the world with quiet resilience and charm. Landon is wonderful with other dogs and good with cats. Because he can't see and gets very excited about food and treats, he may unknowingly nip at hands, so he needs a home with no children. Walks are one of Landon's biggest joys. He takes short, slow "sloth-paced" strolls, stopping often to sniff the world around him. His nose is his guide, so we're enriching his days with scent-based activities and food-finding games, which he absolutely loves. Landon's favorite pastime? Naps. This sweet boy will happily snooze the afternoon away, often choosing his crate on his own. He's fully crate-trained and finds comfort in the routine. Every now and then, you'll catch Landon gently nibbling on a toy—an adorable reminder that even after hardship, he still finds joy in the simple things. He loves everyone he meets and just wants to be loved right back. Landon deserves a quiet, peaceful home where he can finally experience the safety, comfort, and devotion he's been missing. If you have room in your heart for an incredibly sweet, gentle senior, Landon would love to spend the rest of his life with you. 🐾💛
