Story
Maz K9ta's story could have ended before it truly began. This adorable 14-pound girl was saved from the euthanasia list and given a second chance at life. Since joining Boxers & Buddies, she has already overcome more than most dogs ever will.Shortly after coming into rescue, Maz required the removal of one of her eyes. Through it all, she has handled her recovery with resilience and grace and is healing beautifully. She is currently being monitored for a cyst following her eye surgery and is receiving treatment for an ear infection, but she remains a happy, affectionate dog who is ready to find a family of her own.Maz is a friendly girl who enjoys being around people and gets along well with other dogs, although she tends to be more interested in her humans than canine companionship. Her foster reports that she mostly ignores the resident dog and prefers to spend her time close to her favorite person. In fact, Maz is very much a "Velcro dog" who forms strong bonds and loves being near the people she trusts. We think she may be best in a home as the only dog. Because of all the medical care and recovery she's been going through, her foster family hasn't yet had the opportunity to see her playful side emerge fully. We suspect that as she continues to feel better, more of her personality will shine through.Maz is potty trained and knows basic commands such as "sit" and "come." She is still working on crate training and may bark when left in her kennel. She is also learning the command "quiet" as her foster family continues helping her build confidence and comfort when alone.Like many dogs who have experienced uncertainty in their lives, Maz can be protective of high-value items and food. She currently eats in her crate and should continue to be fed separately from other pets. She will need an adopter who understands resource guarding and is committed to using positive reinforcement and management techniques to help her continue making progress.Maz would thrive in a home that will:• Provide structure, patience, and positive reinforcement training• Respect her boundaries around food and special items• Appreciate a loyal companion who wants to be by your sideMaz has already proven how strong and resilient she is. Now she's looking for someone who will give her the stability, understanding, and love she deserves. In return, you'll gain a devoted companion who will be happiest right beside you. Before adoption, all Boxers and Buddies dogs are spayed/neutered, up-to-date with age appropriate vaccinations, microchipped. All dogs are fostered in a foster home where they are treated like family - practicing socialization skills. After submitting an application, our team will contact you within 24 hours. The adoption process includes an interview, home check, meet-and-greet (all household dogs must attend), verification that rental properties allow dogs if applicable. We require professional obedience training from a certified trainer for ALL adoptions.
