Story
Max hasn’t been dealt the easiest hand in life. Due to severe hip issues, he is considered a special-needs dog and will require a major surgery in the future. While the exact course of treatment is still being determined, Max’s adopter or foster will need to be willing to stay in contact and work closely with us as we move forward together. Currently, Max receives Librela injections and joint supplements to help keep him comfortable in his daily life. But Max is so much more than his medical history. Max is an absolute joy to be around. He has a wonderful temperament with people and is sweet, goofy, bouncy, and full of playful charm. Watching Max experience a snow day is pure magic, his happiness is contagious. He also loves soaking up the sunny days and lounging around, happiest when he’s near his favorite people. At HSOC, Max has done well with several other dogs. Because of his hips, rough or overly long play sessions can cause him to limp, so a home with lower-energy canine companions (or dogs who understand when playtime is over) would be ideal. A meet-and-greet will be required to ensure any potential dog friends are a good match. While in a temporary foster home, Max showed some separation anxiety, which is not uncommon for shelter dogs adjusting to big changes. Our trainer, Jim Kats, is happy to provide a transitional lesson to help Max settle comfortably into his new home. Max is special in every sense of the word. He’s looking for someone who can see past his challenges and appreciate the incredible, loving dog

Story
Looking to rehome the worlds best dog! Kiki is an Australian cattle dog Mix. She is 11 years old (5/20/2013) but still very young at heart. She is ESA Certified, does well with other dogs, and is honestly rather spoiled. Recently my partner was diagnosed with lung cancer and along with us having our first baby, we realized we cannot continue to offer her the best life she deserves. She comes with a lot of bells and whistles, a few allergies(wheat, dairy, chicken, and potatoes) as well as seasonal allergies. She is diagnosed with cellebrium hypeplasia which is a genetic mobility defect. But don’t let the big name fool you! She loves to run and spin and play just like any other dog. She has been our best friend for 11 years and deserves the very best home. We hate to see her go, but would love to see her happy and thriving again! She comes with 75lbs of specialty food, 2 orthopedic beds, an elevated food and water tray, bath and grooming accessories and a lot of love and life left.

Story
We first adopted Sofie in Baltimore, MD when she was a puppy. We were attracted by her sweet nature (via jumping on our laps and giving licks to the face). We have another dog, cat, and a child in our home. Sofie does well with our cat, and for the most part does well with our other dog. However, recently there have been instances where the dogs have gotten into fights. With a new child in our home, we feel there is too much risk to allow these fights to continue, though we love both of our dogs dearly. Sofie is incredibly loyal and a highly trainable dog. She loves to play tug a war and chase after frisbees. She would benefit from being the only dog in the home, with an owner who prioritizes her training/play. Sofie would be best in a home without young children. She is 6 years old and has so much love to give to the right home.
