Story
Meet Lucy. We are looking to re-home her with a family or individual who wants an absolute best friend and constant companion in their pet. Our oldest son has developed a pretty severe allergy to her and can no longer come to our home for any length of time. She was born 11-1-2017, is spayed, and UTD on shots. In addition, she went to a 2 week board and train program with OLK9 of Kentucky back in 2021. We are still in contact with her trainer, and he has boarded her several times for us while we were on vacation. We have let him know of our situation and he has offered to meet with a new owner to go over her commands and training. She has been around other dogs and cats. She will fetch a ball or frisbee endlessly, she loves being outdoors with her people, but has always been an indoor dog. She wants to be around people any time she is able. Not suitable for apartment living.

Story
Caution, Dog in picture is sassier than he may appear! If you've ever wanted the equivalent of a teenager in dog form then this could be the guy for you. This teddy bear-looking young gentleman is Jim! Jim is a little over a year old and came to the Kentucky Humane Society when his owner could no longer care for him. According to his pet DNA results, this spunky guy is 33% Australian Cattle dog, 21% Beagle, 21% Chow Chow, 7% Border Collie, and 7% Collie. Most importantly, Jim is 100% good boy! His herding tendencies come out in play and he loves to methodically move his playmates to wherever he deems appropriate. His friends don't seem to mind though and he absolutely loves playing with other dogs. He would do great in a home with other friendly dogs to wear him out. Jim is a super friendly guy but likes his opinions to be known. He will remind you with a nice big bork that you didn't really want to eat that whole egg mcmuffin and he will take the remainder off your hands. Watching too much tv? Jim will tell you when it's time to get up and pay attention to him. He's a talented interior designer and will redecorate by moving pillows and blankets to create a more feng shui environment. Are you eco conscious? Jim's favorite activity is recycling cardboard boxes and he will happily shred them up for you. He loves to find treasures and bring them to you with a "look but don't touch" kind of attitude. Jim has lived with cats and although he's interested, he exercises extreme caution around them as he's found some to be very poky. Because of his big personality Jim is approved to go to an adult only home that has dog experience and is willing to work on his manners and training. An ideal home for Jim is one with patience, love, and a good sense of humor. Jim is neutered, microchipped, and utd on vaccinations. Jim is apart of our shelter behavior program. If you are interested in meeting him, please first submit an online adoption application located at www.kyhumane.org/dog-app. Once we have received your adoption application, our behavior team will follow up and provide you with more information.

Story
GUINESS is looking for his forever home. He was found suffering from a severe would consistent with a snare type of trap. He is an adolescent dog who is still developing and is a strong willed, confident and driven dog with the capability to be intense at times. Not knowing for certain his breed makeup, his behaviors and physical features are definitely consistent with a mix of Australian Cattle Dog, Catahoula Leopard Dog and Sharpei (and probably many more below the surface) His perfect home is one where he is given an outlet like sports, hiking, fetch or tug and clear boundaries and guidance. While he can do well around children and small animals he has shown that he enjoys chasing and hunting type behaviors so if his adopter has children or small pets he will have to be watched and managed very closely. https://thearrowfund.org/our-animals/adoption-application/

Story
Margarita is a beautiful, white with black spots, female puppy! She and her two siblings were found and dropped at a rural shelter. She is currently about 12 weeks of age and her little legs are growing and getting longer. Margarita is about 9 pounds currently and expected to be a medium or small/medium size when grown. Margarita is a playful, curious girl. She and her sister helped work a birthday party with at least twenty 10-12 year olds and their feet never touched the ground! They did great with the children and enjoyed all the attention. We are looking for patient, committed homes that will put in the puppy work of socializing and obedience training to help this girl grown to be a wonderful, mannerly adult! Interested in adopting, please email us at blueridgerescue@aol.com for an application!

Story
It is baffling, but Tut has been waiting for his home for too long. Tut is a handsome 1-year, 5-month-old Cattle Dog mix, who loves people and other dogs. He weighs about 65 pounds. Tut would probably chase a cat, and he can be a little rough with stuffed toys, but other than that, friendly Tut would be a great addition to an active household. He is more gentle with smaller dogs and lets the other dog he is playing with decide the level of play. His sister Christy got adopted to first-time dog owners, and she is doing great. Tut is hoping that he can find his forever family - and soon! If you are interested in meeting Tut, please go to the HSOC website and fill out an application.

Meet Boots! Boots is a 5-year-old Cattle Dog mix with a striking set of "boots"! If you're looking for the perfect companion, you can choose your adventure with Boots! He is ready for the coffee run and pup cup car ride, a stroll in the park, zoomies in the yard, and being your cozy companion at home. He is inquisitive, enjoys people and giving kisses. Boots is a simple dog, with simple needs. At his age and maturity level, he does not need to be entertained or exercised all day. He does not need an active family or other dogs to play with. He is not a groupie, he just needs his "person", his BFF. A graduate of the Paws Behind Bars program, Boots was awarded the highest praise for his learning. All the volunteers rave how sweet Boots is and now he is ready for you! If interested in adopting, our process begins with submission of our application. Please visit our website at www.adoptmebluegrasspetrescue.com and click on Boot's picture in "Adoptable Dogs". Additional adoption FAQ's can be found here also. Meets will be set with approved applicants based on our "best family fit" approach. Thank you!

Story
LENNOX is a 2 year old, female cattle dog mix. She weighs 39 lbs. She was originally adopted out as a puppy and came back when she hit her "terrible teens". She is a confident dog and needed a steady, unwavering hand to guide her through. She was immediately enrolled in our Paws Behind Bars prison dog training program. Here, the rules are the rules and slowly, but surely, Lennox started to fall into line. Cattle dogs are a very task driven breed and obedience training was actually what she needed. She also polished up her social skills. Getting along nicely with other dogs was a struggle. We are happy to report, she has graduated from the program and is living happily in her foster home, with her BFF canine friend also. Her "perfect fit" home will be an active one with older children. (cattle dogs will always want to herd). If there is another dog, a male would be preferred. A fenced in yard is a must so she can get the proper amount of exercise. She loves people and thrives on obedience and structure. If interested in adopting, our process begins with submission of our application. Please visit our website at www.adoptmebluegrasspetrescue.com and click on Lennox's picture in "Adoptable Dogs". Additional adoption FAQ's can be found here also. Story
Beethoven was born deaf to a litter of ten purebred Australian Cattle Dogs. His brothers and sisters all went to good homes to either be family pets or working dogs. However, because of his special needs, Beethoven stayed with us to be cared for. We already have three other dogs and realize we have stretched ourselves a bit. We want Beethoven to have his best life with someone who can care for him properly. Beethoven has been an outside dog who is crated inside at night. He is incredibly intelligent and sweet. While he can occasionally be ornery, he mostly wants to run and bark at squirrels when he sees them. He has shown food aggression in the past and we have worked with him to correct but we have seen him try to bully other dogs out of the bowl. In his life, Beethoven has interacted with at least five other dogs but never with cats. He does well around children.

I'm looking for a home with a fenced in yard she needs room to run, she loves to play ball & she is a herding dog. She thinks she is a lap dog. Affectionate, playful, smart & quick learner. She does sometimes do tricks as in "paw" & she does sit.

Story
Milo is a high energy 5.5-year-old, half Austrian Shepard, half English Shepard. I received him from a breeder off a farm near Elizabethtown, KY when he was an 8-week-old puppy. He has lived most of his life in the city, however my parents have a farm that he visits frequently. Milo loves to run around the farm and explore. He has always been a very smart dog, he would learn tricks quickly, but he will push the boundaries of the trick/command. Milo has had some problems with aggression in the past. Generally, Milo is friendly with humans, just give him time to greet you, but other dogs tend to make him defensive, specifically large male dogs. Usually, if he has time to slowly meet another dog and get used to the dog, he is very playful with them. Milo has tons of energy and would be a great dog for lots of exercise, I have walked with him and run with him before on the leash, but he does pull some. The ideal home for Milo would be lots of land, or at least somewhere with a large yard.

Story
We are sad that we will have to find a new home for our dog Pansy. She is a sweet and loving dog with a cute face that looks like a baby seal, however she does not handle small children well at all. With us having twin girls very soon, we are looking to rehome Pansy. This has been a very hard decision, but we don’t know what the future holds when it comes to her handling the girls when they enter the world. Pansy is an Australian kelpie/pit bull mix dog, she’s about 8 years old, 65 pounds, is fully vaccinated and spayed, she loves to play and be outdoors. She gets along with other dogs that are smaller than her, however it does take time for her to warm up to them. Pansy loves to give love by rubbing up against you, howling at you, and asking for lots of back scratches. We would love to rehome soon, as the girls will be coming to the world a lot sooner than we expected.
