Looking for a big, lovable, playful puppy? Meet Oakley! He's an 11 month old, 75 lb. Coonhound/Great Pyrenees mix. Oakley was well-cared for by his original owner in Virginia who could not keep him and has been in a Massachusetts foster home for the last month. He's housebroken and knows how to use a doggie door. Oakley gets along with the other 3 dogs in the household but would do best with a canine companion of medium or large size and similar energy level - he loves to play! Oakley learns quickly and will benefit from continued training. He already knows 'Sit', 'Wait', and 'Up'. He rides well in the car and walks well on a leash. He tolerates a crate for short periods of time but would not do well being crated all day. He sleeps on his bed in the foster's room. Oakley is affectionate and engaging and just likes to hang out with his people when he's not on the move. True to his Great Pyrenees breeding, Oakley will alert to visitors or intruders and would make a good guard dog. Oakley is available for visits northwest of Boston. Annie is a 7 year old coonhound who was originally adopted in 2022. Due to a move and change in the family's situation, Annie needs a new home. Annie is a very sweet dog who loves her people and loves her tennis ball almost as much. She has done well living with other dogs these last couple of years but would also be fine as an only pet or with one companion. She eagerly meets new friends at the dog park and gets along with males and females. Annie is crate-trained and loves to curl up in a ball on her bed but she would prefer to sleep with her humans if permitted. Annie is a high-energy dog and requires daily exercise. She will tirelessly play fetch and loves doing so as much as she likes her walks in the park. She would be a great running companion. Annie is vocal when she anticipates an outing or when playing ball. Looking for a bluetick coonhound? Gracie is a beautiful hound girl originally from Virginia. She gets along with other dogs and would love to live with a hound companion since that's what she's accustomed to. Gracie is housebroken, sleeps nicely in her crate, and walks well on a leash. She knows some commands and is a fast learner who will benefit from continued training. She is more praise-driven than food-driven. She loves to play with her toys and is playful with other dogs. She's also a great snuggler and loves to roll around on the sofa inviting belly rubs. Gracie probably had one original owner who she loved and trusted. She likes a slow introduction to new people and places, but she does settle in easily. Gracie has been in several foster homes already but had to leave one due to travel schedules and the other due to her prey drive around the cats - so no cats please. All interested people should submit an adoption application as their first step. Meet Krypto– The Big-Brained, Big-Hearted Goofball! Krypto is a 4-year-old hound mix with brains, brawn, and a whole lot of love to give! At 65 lbs of happy tail wags and high energy, Krypto is one smart cookie—he already knows sit, stay, come, lay down, wait, and leave it! He’s still working on his leash manners (his enthusiasm sometimes gets the best of him!), but he's eager to learn and please. Krypto's ideal home includes a fenced yard to zoom around in or someone who’s ready to commit to daily adventures and exercise. He is not the right fit if you live in a small apartment.  A yard is a must for this big guy.  He really thrives when his humans are around—he gets anxious when left alone, but he’s not destructive, just a bit nervous. Having another dog buddy is not a must for Krypto, although he would absolutely love having a playmate. (A playmate to help burn off all that hound energy!) He’s previously lived with a toddler and a baby and did well, but he’s a big, bouncy boy who might accidentally knock over little ones during his enthusiastic greetings. He’s also lived with a cat and was totally respectful—what a gentleman! Krypto is looking for a family that understands big-hearted, high-energy dogs and is ready to match his zest for life with love, structure, and plenty of playtime. . If you're looking for a smart, loyal, and endlessly fun companion, Krypto just might be your perfect match!  All pets adopted from GDHS are spayed or neutered, have vaccinations brought up to date, are on heartworm preventative (dogs), FIV/FELV tested (cats) and microchipped. Meet Penny! Penny is a spirited six-year-old Coonhound Mix currently living in Cincinnati, OH, who is equal parts playful, loyal, and affectionate. Wrapped in a sleek black coat with soulful eyes that will melt your heart, Penny is the kind of companion who will always be by your side—whether on a long walk, playing a game of tug-of-war, or curled up next to you on the couch. Penny thrives on routine, loves her daily walks, and is always up for an adventure (as long as she has a fenced yard to keep her from roaming too far!). She’s incredibly smart and food-motivated, making her eager to learn new tricks—she already knows sit, down, spin, and place, and is working on mastering stay and recall. She has a wonderfully goofy personality and isn’t shy about showing affection, often giving her signature "dog hug" headbutts or gazing at you with complete devotion. Because Penny prefers to have all the attention to herself, she would do best as the only pet in a calm, structured home.
