Story
Buddy is a handsome Dachshund with a velvety black and tan coat. He's about 8 years old and weighs around 11lbs. He's neutered, heartworm negative, and up-to-date on vaccines and monthly preventatives. Buddy is fostered in the greater Jacksonville, FL area. Check his profile highlights below! Read his full profile before applying to ensure you meet his requirements: https://www.fawnssmalldogrescue.org/adoptable-dogs/buddy Are you looking for a best Buddy?! This Buddy is versatile, his favorite activities include: - Long sniffy walks - Cozy couch cuddles - Doggie play time - Napping like a pretzel - Treats and meals Buddy was used as a stud in a breeding turned hoarding situation. He does surprisingly well with humans and is great with similarly sized dogs. When it comes to cats, if they run he'll chase. Buddy is doing well with house and potty training. He's happy to follow his foster sister outside to go potty in the yard, he'll wear a belly-band as a back up when his foster has errands. He often takes his time to go potty and may get distracted if he finds something to chase. Buddy has good harness and leash skills. He adores long sniffy walks, to engage his keen Dachshund nose. The vet is very pleased with Buddy's size, we love a trim Dachshund with an athletic figure. This smart boy is learning to use doggie stairs and ramps. Buddy has a typical Dachshund temperament. He's an excellent alert barker, you'll know when mail or packages arrive. Guests are heralded with barks and treated with wariness. That is until his foster sister, who adores people, gets more attention and love than he does. Buddy can't abide by this injustice and this helps him get over his suspicion of guests more quickly. Buddy's fur-every family needs patient humans, ideally adults with breed experience who are home often. No shared walls for Buddy, he's too vocal for close neighbors. He'd like moderately active humans and at least one similarly sized playful dog sibling. He's fine with calm, dog-savvy cats who don't care to run. He's yard optional as he'll go potty while out on walks.

Story
Meet this precious little Dachshund dream 💜This 2-year-old female Dachshund is as sweet as she looks — and those big brown eyes will melt you the second you meet her. She came into rescue after experiencing a prior back-end injury, which leaves her with some mild special needs, but it does nothing to slow down her love for life, people, and snacks. She is crate trained, appears to be house trained, and gets along wonderfully with cats, dogs, and every human she meets. She truly believes strangers are just friends she hasn’t been pet by yet. She also walks off-leash and stays close, happy just to be by your side. Her favorite things include: • Eating (enthusiastically)• Napping in cozy spots• Belly rubs and ear scratches (non-negotiable)• Going outside to potty• Being lovedShe’s a low-maintenance, big-hearted little girl who would thrive in a home ready to offer patience, understanding, and lots of affection. In return, she promises loyalty, cuddles, and that classic Dachshund devotion that makes them impossible to forget. If you’re looking for a gentle, loving companion who just wants to be cherished, this sweet girl is ready to be your forever 🐾💕

Story
Chopper is a senior dachshund who was adopted back in August. He was surrendered recently because he did not do well with the other animals, both dogs and cats. We are not sure if this is recent or if there were changes in the household that bothered him. Whatever the reason, Chopper finds himself in need of a new family after 5 months of adoption. He is housebroken and crate trained and does well with most people, although children would not be recommended. They simply move too fast and have too much energy. Chopper is the OG Dachshund, so it would be great to have an adopter with Dachshund savvy. They are tiny but mighty. Come and meet Chopper 11 to 4 Tuesday through Saturday. He is neutered, microchipped, current on core vaccines and has tested negative for heartworms.

Story
Hi there, I’m Phoebe! I’m 15 years old, 25 pounds, and a gentle soul looking for a patient and understanding forever home. I thrive in calm and quiet environments, and I’d do best with one or two older women who can provide me the time and space I need to feel safe. I’m a shy girl, and it may take me weeks—sometimes months—to come out of hiding willingly. With love and patience, I’ll start to follow you around and keep an eye on where you are. I’ve made great progress in my foster home, but I’ll need someone experienced and willing to help me continue to build my confidence. A few things to know about me: Men make me nervous: I’m not comfortable around men and may react strongly to them, so I need a home where this can be managed. I’m vocal: While I love to let my voice be heard, my foster mom has worked with me, and I’m learning to quiet down after a reminder or two. I’m house trained: I know my manners and enjoy being part of a peaceful household. I’m independent yet affectionate: Once I trust you, I’ll happily share my gentle heart and enjoy cuddles by your side. My favorite activities include lounging in my cozy bed, keeping close to my foster grandma, and exploring the backyard at my own pace. I’m searching for someone special who understands that good things take time. If you’re ready to open your heart to a quiet, loving companion who just needs a little patience, I might be the perfect match for you. If you know that I am your forever pup, please fill out an adoption application at https://daretorescue.org/adoption-application. Don't forget to put my NAME on your application! If you cannot adopt me but would like to help DARE pay for my care before I am adopted by my forever family, donate online at https://daretorescue.org/donation or send a check made payable to DARE to:DAREPO Box 21161Tampa, FL 32210     Even if you do not see a dog that matches what you're looking for, you may fill out a no obligation application at https://daretorescue.org/adoption-application and we will work to find a match for you. We receive dogs into foster care frequently, so it is impossible to have every available or soon-to-be-available dog on the website.October 20, 2025, 10:02 am
