We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application (DOG:https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=44, CAT: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=41, EXOTICS: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=46) completely. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.

Story
Located in Tennessee but can be transported to you through Rescue Riders. This girl was brought in with babies when her owner couldn't take care of her. She was not socialized very well so will need some work. She will need a very patient person to get her to come out of her shell. She was kept outside so she has no house manners, nor has she been with cats. She does do well with dogs her size and seems to like to play with them. She deserves a new chance to be a loved dog and companion. She will take a lot of time and investment but deserves a chance!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Romeo, oh such a suitable name for this goofy, loving dog. Romeo is a 9 year young Dachshund mix. He is great with other dogs and very sociable with humans. Very food motivated and he can hear the cheese wrapper from any distance. Romeo is looking for a permanent home, preferably one without stairs. The coordination in his rear legs is not perfect, but on flat ground he is as fast as the other dogs and he love to run and play wrestle. Romeo is not an early riser, he likes to sleep in on a soft bed close to the warm air vent.  Romeo is incontinent. Romeo has limited bladder control. He leaks urine when his bladder is full. He walks as he pees and is unaware of this, he could wear doggie diapers but he would need to be trained to keep them on. Romeo will not be able to become 100% housebroken due to his neurological problem.** If Romeo is let out often he keeps clean inside most of the time.** Romeo loves his human with ALL his heart . He has lots of needs but lots of love to give. This guy is definitely worth the work. If you think you're that special person who can help Romeo and give him a forever home fill out an application. Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue microchips all dogs and cats before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the shoulder blades and are another form of identification should the animal get lost. The microchips are registered to  Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue. The adopter's information is added once the adoption is complete. The adopter is responsible for a $19.99/Year registration fee or a $69.00/Lifetime registration fee to change information.  Dogs and Cats still need to have collar with tags should they get lost. There are really no words for Hexley, he is so darn sweet and darling! He is estimated to be about a year old and weighs 27 pounds. Meet Hexley, a bundle of adorable, outgoing energy with a gorgeous brindle coat who is ready to charm his way into your heart! This young man is as friendly as they come and is a huge lover, just wanting to be close. He'll happily jump right into your lap for some ear-nibbling and quality time, and his playful, goofy nature is the best. If you have some tennis balls, he will be very happy, he loves to retrieve them and will drop them right in front of you. With his cute as cute can be looks and loving personality, he's the whole package. Come meet Hexley and see for yourself why he's the perfect addition to any family! He will need a home where any children are at least 8 years old. Hexley can’t wait for a family to cuddle with and who will love him forever. If you are interested in Hexley and are at least 21 years old, please come to our kennel during business hours, make an appointment, or fill out an application at k9stray.com and an adoption counselor will be in touch. We look forward to helping you find your new best friend! *Please check your lease agreements for breed/weight restrictions prior to applying. We also do not do cat testing, so we do not know how a dog will do with cats. Not all dogs are available to go home on the same day you first meet.*

Story
Meet Lucy At 17 pounds of pure sweetness, Lucy is a gentle senior girl looking for a loving home to spend her golden years. She’s calm, affectionate, and happiest when she’s close to her favorite humans. She LOVES going for walks especially when her dog friends in her foster home join! Lucy does have a heart murmur, but it doesn’t require any medication right now — she’s just taking life at an easy pace, enjoying every cuddle and cozy nap. If you have a soft spot for seniors and a comfy spot on the couch, Lucy would love to share it with you. She’s ready to fill her retirement years with love, snuggles, and simple joys. We do not have a facility for you to visit. You are welcome to email ccrcdogs@ccrcdogs.com with specific questions, but please complete the online application, which can be found at www.ccrcdogs.com, to secure your position in line for one of our dogs. You can also find a description of our process on that same page. Puppies will not be available to be seen until their 10-day quarantine has passed. Our adoption fees are listed on our website and cover the cost of the spay/neuter, age-appropriate shots and tests, medications to bring the dog to full health, and a free visit with one of our approved vets after adoption. Most dogs at CCRC are obtained from animal control centers so there is often very little known about their history or current habits. You can always expect to do some training, regardless of whether you adopt a dog or a puppy, including crate training, house training, and basic manners. CCRC has a variety of materials and resources to assist you with this, and we have trainers who will offer free phone/email support. November 12, 2025, 6:59 pm

Story
Meet Kid Kibble! LAST OF HIS SIBLINGS STILL WAITING FOR HIS FOREVER FAMILY :-( This seven-month-old, 30-pound dachshund/lab mix is eager to begin his new life in a home with you! He arrived at GLDR with his three lovable low-rider siblings Remy Paws, Motley Chew, and Bone Jovie who have all been adopted! Let's help Kid Kibble find his forever family too! This bubbly boy is always up to play and is eager to meet both pups and people. Kid Kibble enjoys exploring the yard and hanging with his siblings. He is ready to experience the world and can't wait to join you on all of your adventures. Adopting a puppy is a long-term commitment that will be rewarded with lots of happy memories for years to come. Kid Kibble will benefit from continued training, daily exercise and a yard to enjoy in his new home. Based on our evaluation, we feel he would do best in an active home with adults or families with kids ages five and up. We feel he has the capacity to live in a home with other animals and we are happy to do a meet and greet with your family fur baby. If you think he could be the pup for you, head to greatlakesdogrescue.com today and submit your application for our our kooky Kid Kibble!
