Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Online Adoption Application › Introducing Barley! Barley came to us as a dedicated and attentive mother with her two young pups. Rescued from a hoarding situation last year, she wasn't shown the love and care she deserved. Despite her past, Barley is ready to find her forever home. Barley is still timid and will need time to trust her new family. She craves love and will bond with you slowly each day. She adores attention, belly rubs, and every toy you have to offer—once she feels safe. Barley needs a few secure places in the home where she can relax, grow her confidence, and hoard her "babies" (toys). A quiet environment with gentle and patient people is essential for her. She is not fond of small children, as they frighten her.  She will go to her safe spot. Barley is an adorable small dog who needs a small, fenced yard to keep her safe. She mingles well with other dogs, as long as they respect her safe spots and don't take her special toys. She will follow their lead and even play with them, but never aggressively. With time, love, and patience, Barley will grow with you, earning trust by providing her space and basic needs. Eventually, she'll seek belly rubs and give kisses. Barley is potty trained. Barley will carry her toys outside, hide them at first to keep them safe, and always stay close to them. Imagine the time it takes to recover and learn to love again after living in a bad situation. Barley is ready to find her permanent home  * Note: Barley is part of our Foster to Adopt program. Apply now if you are interested in testing how she would acclimate in your home*   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 28, 2025, 4:59 pm

Name: PugsleyGender: MaleCurrent Age: 1 yearCurrent Age Range: Adult (1 year or older)Current Weight: 28 lbsExpected Adult Size: Medium (25–50 lbs)Breed: Terrier mixEnergy Level: Low–Medium Dog Friendly: Yes, and can have other dogs in the home or can be an only dogCat Friendly: YesKids: Yes, any ageApartment Friendly: YesFence Requirements: Physical fence preferred but not required with regular walks/exercise Crate Trained: Yes, for short periods of time (up to 4 hours)Potty Trained: Yes Ideal Home / Adopter:Pugsley’s ideal home could be so many because he’s so adaptable. He’s good as an only dog but enjoys playing when another dog comes to visit. He would be happy living with a single person, couple, or family. He gets pretty excited around small children and needs reminders not to jump, but he loves running and playing with them too. He even gets along with cats—he mostly ignores them or tries to make gentle friends. He loves people and wants to be near his person—snuggled on the couch or warming your feet at night in bed. Because of his “loviness,” Pugsley wouldn’t do well being crated all day, but he’s perfectly happy to spend up to 4 hours in his crate. After that, he gets a little vocal. Likes:Head rubs, treats of any kind, naps on your bed, walks, watching movies on the couch, car rides Dislikes:His crate after 4 hours, being too far away from you Pugsley is as close to perfection as you can get. He’s incredibly adaptable and fits into different situations and with different people. His interim foster family had dogs, and he was full of high energy—running and playing nonstop. His permanent foster (me) didn’t have any dogs, and I was worried he’d miss the excitement. Nope! He adjusted immediately to the calmer energy of our home and our three cats. He’s been happy exploring our fenced yard, gently trying to befriend the cats, and accepting their rejection with his easygoing, cheerful attitude. He likes walks but is also content with yard time. He loves helping with anything—reading, working, napping, or chores. He’s excellent in the car and even went camping with his foster family—and loved it! Pugsley is a sweet, loving boy who would be the perfect addition to anyone looking for a cute, smaller-sized dog who is adaptable, fun, and affectionate. And did I mention, CUTE?! All fees include spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations, worming, flea and heartworm current. All dogs over 6 months of age have been tested and are heartworm negative.
