Story
Long story. But it's his story. Once upon a time, 3 dachshund mix puppies came to Legacy of Hope. They had been tossed off a bridge. One of them, later named Sully, was injured. His jaw was dislocated and he was in pain. He was treated, and he went on to be adopted into a loving family. For 4 years he lived the dream. A family, home. Friends. Then he jumped off the bed and injured his back. Now named Mike, he was diagnosed with IVDD. Intervertebral Disc Disease. IVDD is when these discs deteriorate (calcify/harden), wherein they become susceptible to bulging or bursting - especially with hard impacts (jumping off a couch, steps, rough play, etc). The cost of surgery is exorbitant, and the time frame for it is minimal. With no guarantee of success. Mike's family did all they could to avoid returning him. They love him. He is family. But the home ,yard and work schedule made it impossible . Mike is in his original foster home, Tammy is taking great care of him. Dr. Martin has been doing acupuncture on him a few times a week. He has his chair and his drag bag. And he is available for adoption. Bear in mind that he is not a novelty, probably not for a first time handicapped pet owner. He needs a home with people who will take care of all his needs, medical or otherwise. He is a loving boy, good with kids and dogs Legacy of Hope Dog Rescue

Story
Libby is very sweet, but very shy with strangers.  She seems to enjoy being petted, but scared of strangers picking her up.  She likes women better then men. Some of our dogs are adopted very quickly.  If you are truly interested in a dog fill out an application ASAP.  If you take the time to email a question someone will already be ahead of you with a completed application.  You can find all the information we have about a particular cat/dog at the link below as well.  Then click the adopt button to fill out an application. To be pre approved fill out an application at the link below.  You are welcome to come in anytime we are open to meet the cats and dogs.  If you are preapproved you can adopt on the same day.  We are open Monday-Saturday 1-4.  Closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas.  https://arfok.org/pages/adoption Adoption fee is $150 for all dogs over 6 months old, $200 for large breed puppies under 6 months, $250 for small breed puppies and some pure breed dogs.  All adoptions include, spay/neuter, vaccines, a heartworm test, and a free 1 year membership to our 5 acre ARF Park.  For other dog questions please email ARFdogs74006@gmail.com We do adopt out of state, but the adopter must travel to ARF to meet the dog they are looking to adopt.  They must have an approved application before traveling to meet the dog.  We do allow small dogs that are eligible to fly in the cabin of a plane.  We DO NOT allow dogs to travel in the cargo area of the plane under any circumstances.  Any dog that is adopted can of course go by personal vehicle.  We do not allow dogs to be transported "pony express style" where they are passed from driver to driver.   ##2698790##

Not good with cats,
Story
Skye is an adorable 5 year old ish dachshund mix. She weighs 12-13lbs. She is spayed, vaccinated and heartworm negative. Skye can be a little bit of a diva with other animals and wants to be the boss. She likely would be happiest being a single dog but does play with the other dogs just doesnt like to share her toys or people. Skye will need someone familar with the breed. She will need work on crate and potty training but is a smart little girl. Her favoritate thing is to snuggle up next to you on the couch and sleep under the covers She has done fine with older respectful kids but small kid likely would not be a good idea due to her long back and smaller size. Skye is not cat friendly We do require a physical fence to keep her safe. Her adoption fee is $150.00 If interested please fill out the online application below https://form.jotform.com/200005720739042

Story
Currently being fostered in Oceanside, CA. Coney is a VERY funny puppy from our hot dog litter! This little guy was found abandoned in a playpen outside as a baby, but has grown in to the kind of dog every family dreams of. Coney loves to be involved, loves belly rubs, still has the absolute cutest habit of smacking things (or nothing) with his front paws. What we've learned since having him in foster is that he has one of the biggest personalities of any puppy ever to live. He's very silly, playful, and fun while still being eager to learn and genuinely wanting to please. He knows how to make his own fun- even when there's not much going on. That being said, he's also very snuggly, loves long naps, and sleeps like a baby overnight in his crate. Coney is an absolute joy to be around. He has a great sense of humor and impeccable comedic timing. He would benefit from a family who will allow him to shine without dimming his light. Coney has officially stolen the heart of everyone he's met, learned that people are pretty great, discovered how fun being loved can be, and he's looking forward to a future full of so many good things he forgets that he ever had it any other way ❤️ P. S. We did a DNA test on Coney's litter! He's 55% Basset, and the rest is a mix of German Shepherd, Boxer, and Husky!

Story
Cow and his siblings were found in a bucket on the side of the road off Highway 20. They kind of looked like some sort of hound mixes, so we were contacted and agreed to do our best to find them homes. Cow is the most laid back out of the litter. He is playful when he wants to be, but also gentle and loving with all animals, and even plays with the cat and the chickens in his foster home. He is also gentle with children. At 12 weeks old, he is already 32 lbs, so he may end up being a big boy! We wish we could say for sure what his breed mix is, but we truly have no idea! We bet there is some hound in there somewhere though!

Story
Rick is still just a baby, but his whole world has already been turned upside down. His person- the only home he knew- passed away. And just like that, he was all alone. Fortunately, some kind people stepped in and made sure that didn't become his whole story. Now he's here with Helpless Hounds and we're feeling pretty lucky because he's a *really* good puppy. He's calm and steady in a way that almost doesn't make sense for his age. Sweet, snuggly, just wants to be near his people and be part of whatever you're doing. He's house trained, playful with people and other dogs, loves kids, tolerates baths like a champ, and the only real "crime" on his record is a little counter surfing (he is a scenthound and he's literally just a baby). He didn't do anything wrong, he just lost the only home he knew. He's ready to be someone's dog again.
