Meet Atis 🐾 Atis is a 5-month-old Dachshund/Shepherd mix with a big personality packed into a little body. This handsome boy is smart, adventurous, and always ready for whatever comes next. He loves playing fetch and will happily bring the ball right back and drop it at your feet for another throw. He's great with cats, enjoys other dogs, and loves being part of the action. Atis already knows "place" and "settle," has excellent recall to a whistle, and is learning all the important skills of being a great family dog. He loves car rides, spending them with his nose in the breeze and his eyes glued to the window, taking in the world around him. When the weather is warm, you'll find him swimming, splashing, and enjoying boat rides (life jacket required, of course). He's even discovered his big-boy bark and, like any growing puppy, thinks digging holes is a perfectly reasonable hobby. Long story. But it's his story. Once upon a time, 3 dachshund mix puppies came to Legacy of Hope. They had been tossed off a bridge. One of them, later named Sully, was injured. His jaw was dislocated and he was in pain. He was treated, and he went on to be adopted into a loving family. For 4 years he lived the dream. A family, home. Friends. Then he jumped off the bed and injured his back. Now named Mike, he was diagnosed with IVDD. Intervertebral Disc Disease. IVDD is when these discs deteriorate (calcify/harden), wherein they become susceptible to bulging or bursting - especially with hard impacts (jumping off a couch, steps, rough play, etc). The cost of surgery is exorbitant, and the time frame for it is minimal. With no guarantee of success. Mike's family did all they could to avoid returning him. They love him. He is family. But the home ,yard and work schedule made it impossible . Mike is in his original foster home, Tammy is taking great care of him. Dr. Martin has been doing acupuncture on him a few times a week. He has his chair and his drag bag. And he is available for adoption. Bear in mind that he is not a novelty, probably not for a first time handicapped pet owner. He needs a home with people who will take care of all his needs, medical or otherwise. He is a loving boy, good with kids and dogs Legacy of Hope Dog Rescue

Ava is a very sweet chiweenie that loves attention.  She came in very pregnant so we have not dog tested her yet.   Some of our dogs are adopted very quickly.  If you are truly interested in a dog fill out an application ASAP.  If you take the time to email a question someone will already be ahead of you with a completed application.  You can find all the information we have about a particular cat/dog at the link below as well.  Then click the adopt button to fill out an application. To be pre approved fill out an application at the link below.  You are welcome to come in anytime we are open to meet the cats and dogs.  If you are preapproved you can adopt on the same day.  We are open Monday-Saturday 1-4.  Closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas.  https://arfok.org/pages/adoption Adoption fee is $150 for all dogs over 6 months old, $200 for large breed puppies under 6 months, $250 for small breed puppies and some pure breed dogs.  All adoptions include, spay/neuter, vaccines, a heartworm test, and a free 1 year membership to our 5 acre ARF Park.  For other dog questions please email ARFdogs74006@gmail.com We do adopt out of state, but the adopter must travel to ARF to meet the dog they are looking to adopt.  They must have an approved application before traveling to meet the dog.  We do allow small dogs that are eligible to fly in the cabin of a plane.  We DO NOT allow dogs to travel in the cargo area of the plane under any circumstances.  Any dog that is adopted can of course go by personal vehicle.  We do not allow dogs to be transported "pony express style" where they are passed from driver to driver.   ##2722622##
