Story
This striking 50 pound Catahoula Leopard Dog is back with us, and this time we are determined to find the home that truly understands what this breed needs. He is smart, energetic, affectionate and incredibly athletic. He picks things up quickly and loves having something to do. He wants to learn, explore, play and be part of the action. And that intelligence and energy need an outlet. We have repeatedly advised his adopters that he needs training (FYI - training is required as part of our contract), mental stimulation, structure and an active lifestyle. Unfortunately, that advice wasn't followed in his most recent home, and he was returned after jumping the owner's fence. This isn't a bad dog. In fact, it's exactly why we're being so intentional about his next home.A Catahoula Leopard Dog isn't a dog who is going to be happy spending most of the day in the backyard with nothing to do. He's an intelligent working breed with energy, athleticism and instincts that need to be managed appropriately. He needs an owner who understands that exercise alone isn't enough. His brain needs a workout too.He is affectionate and loves his people. He's playful, adventurous and eager to learn. Give him structure and a purpose, and you're going to have an incredible companion. His ideal home:🐾 An active person or family🐾 Someone committed to ongoing positive reinforcement training🐾 Daily exercise and mental enrichment🐾 Structure, consistency and boundaries🐾 A secure yard with appropriate supervision🐾 Someone who understands Catahoula instincts and athleticism🐾 A family willing to actually follow through with the training and guidance he needsAnd because he is a Catahoula, his instincts need to be respected. He should not be left unattended with chickens, poultry or other small animals. We don't want this boy returned again because someone underestimated his needs. We want someone who looks at this incredibly smart, athletic, beautiful dog and says, "Yep. I can give this dog a job."He's young. He's bright. He's loving. And he's got so much potential. He just needs someone willing to put in the work. 💙We require professional obedience training from a certified trainer for ALL adoptions.
