Story

Chandler loves, LOVES chasing balls and chewing ropes. He is very vocal, whining and barking when he wants attention or needs to go outside/wants to go run the yard. He was kenneled at the shelter for months before coming to rescue, so he is reluctant to crate at his foster home for long periods of time but is sleeping overnight in a crate for practice. He is an anxious chewer and blanket sucker when inside/crated. He prefers to sleep on a dog bed, couch or the floor. Chandler is being trained with boundaries (baby gates) and does not push open doors or push past people. He knows sit and is easy to walk on a leash. He barks at people and things at a distance but does not show aggression. He is tall and at 2 years old, will not get any taller - which is fine since he is above the breed standard of a Doberman and fitting in the category of a Warlock or King size bred Doberman. He is continuing to gain weight/muscle and last weighed 78 lbs. He could be a 95 lb-110 lb dog. >> He will need a family accepting of his initial anxiety - he barks at new things and people (which is unnerving since he's huge) but will give kisses by the 2nd date or meeting, give 48 hours in a new home before he understands. He is working on house training and socializing. He functions with a puppy brain but is very trainable and eager to please. He will jump on people, he will pull at objects in someone's hand. Chandler Goose will require breed experience to adjust to a new home successfully. !!! He has been slowly introduced to other dogs and thriving in group play. He does well with other big dogs males and females; he wants to play and smell, following the lead of other dogs. He would like dog friends and a yard to play. Due to his size and limited social skills, He should not be exercised at a dog park. He was poorly socialized and was not used to strangers and never had dog friends. He was significantly underweight at 54 lbs and barked at strangers. The shelter staff knew the best way to find the 'right' family for their 'Silly Goose' would be through Rescue. Chandler Goose weighed in at 70 lbs during his rescue intake and was still noticeably underweight with poor muscle tone.

*Due to state laws regarding out of state adoptions, we cannot adopt to families in Massachusetts or Rhode Island.* Bambi is a sweet 1 year old mix who loves to go on walks and is hoping for a family that will give him lots of belly rubs. Listed breed is an educated guess made by our veterinarian and is NOT a guarantee - this also means we have no way of knowing what a puppy's adult size will be. This dog is currently being fostered in Mississippi and will be transported via Barton's Barkers transport services upon adoption. Their adoption fee is $500 and includes spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations, a nose to tail vet check, microchip and transport costs. Second Chances lists dogs as being available in White River Junction, VT because we transport our dogs to the area every 3rd week after they have been adopted. All of our local shelters have a high euthanasia rate due to overpopulation so we created our rescue group to primarily adopt to the northern states to help keep as many dogs as we can from entering our kill shelters. ##2071710##

Ms. Dixie Hart is the sweetest dog! She has taken in the dogs around her to give comfort, confidence and guidance. She was found with other dogs in Kerr County roaming an area just before a devastating flood. She trusts people and learned her routines, crating and coming to commands. Dixie was clearly a mama dog who has had a rough life - her ears are uneven and cut off (an attempt at cropped ears) and she has a docked tail. Her coat is course and appears to be a result of poor breeding. She is majority Doberman in her appearance (59 lbs and a bit stocky). Guessed to be 5-6 years old. She is house trained and stays Quietly on a dog bed enjoying the comforts of being a house dog now. She deserves a family to give kisses and keep her heart company. Chico Diablo - is a stunning black and tan Doberman with cropped ears and a docked tail. He is lean, muscular and athletic - enjoys playing with balls and being outside. He will bark at noises, alarms/sirens and people outside of his property. He is affectionate with his foster family and clingy, pushes for attention and affection. Crate trained and sleeps in a crate overnight. Chico is leash trained and knows basic commands. Chico responds to verbal commands. This sweet and spicy Doberman is a family pet and will thrive in the right home. He wants affection, is house trained, crate trained, leash trained and enjoys a fenced in yard to exercise. A home with another dog (medium to large, female) would be comforting to Chico but not necessary. Shelter staff noted he was 'nippy' and would avoid being petted. Chico uses his teeth without puncturing skin to ask for space when his collar was grabbed. Rescue agreed to give him time to decompress in a home, in his own space (crate) and with slow intros (every dog needs this!). Chico was walked out of the shelter, leaned on his foster and responded to verbal commands. We noted he would snap when his collar was pulled - a sign to us in our experience that abusive handling or improper use of a prong collar was applied on him. We moved him to secure fitted tactical collar and started working with him on touching his neck, pulling gently on the collar and reaching for the collar. Chico is trusting of people but would need confident owners to create boundaries for his safety (no board and training, muzzle during vet visits for strangers to poke him, mindful of who is around). Due to Chico's reactivity to being pull/grabbed by the collar - we do not recommend a home with small children. Chico is being self-protective and not aggressive in his reaction, but we do not want a child harmed or afraid of him. Chico is sensitive to yelling and not a dominate personality. Chico is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm treated and on prevention. Now at a healthy weight, shiny coat and food motivated. We quickly learned that the two male Dobermans did not like each other and were separated (both tagged and brought to rescue). Chico was fearful at first, barks and protects himself by backing up and growling. He was given time to decompress, trust and see the routine (crated in a bedroom for quiet, led by a leash to the backyard). Chico was paired up to a young male shepherd, confident female dogs for playtime. He will "fence fight" (run up to a barrier to growl/bark/push) another male - without barrier, he will back down and not engage but continue to growl and bark. Due to this repeated reaction to other larger male dogs, we do not recommend dog parks or a home with another male. He is submissive/gentle and playful with female dogs. Due to stress, Chico was underweight when he came to rescue. Not tested with cats or small animals.
