Story
Llama was brought in by a local resident who had noticed several feral cats living around their property, and since arriving at MHS she has remained feral in nature and prefers minimal human interaction. Because of this, we believe she would thrive best living as a working barn cat, where she can enjoy the independence and space she’s most comfortable with. Llama has done well coexisting with the other barn cats she is currently housed with and would likely adjust to living among other cats or animals in a barn setting. She is understandably shy and has spent much of her time here staying hidden, so she may take some time to feel safe and confident in a new environment, but with patience and a proper acclimation period she will settle in and begin to exhibit the natural hunting and patrolling behaviors that make barn cats such valuable additions—she’s a great little worker in the making. Llama will need to be humanely trapped for any future medical care or concerns, and to help her succeed in her new home she should be kept in a secure, enclosed space within the barn for up to a month so she can acclimate, recognize the space as her home base, and learn where to return for food and shelter before being given full access to roam.

Story
Foxy is a gentle girl, likely a senior with an adorable little permanent "smirk". She came into our care after a family moved away and left cats outside to fend for themselves. Foxy is a petite girl weighing a little over 6 lbs. She has longer fur but she isn't super fluffy. We are not sure of her actual age, she did have a broken canine and another bad tooth that we had removed to help her be more comfortable. She does well with other cats, she seems to enjoy their company as long as they aren't too overbearing. She likes to groom them and just overall hang out. Foxy is a low key girl, she enjoys being pet and affection in general from people. She is not a fan of being held but would likely come to sit with you and maybe get into your lap on her own. She is looking for a quiet home where she will continue to enjoy living inside and being pampered. She has tested negative for FIV/FeLV/heartworms, she is spayed and up to date on all vaccinations. All of our animals are rescued and transported from South Mississippi where major animal overpopulation means less homes. We only transport them once adopted, in most instances, we can be available for a video call once an application has been approved. _______________________________ Considering adoption? Start by filling out our online application (copy and paste the following link) https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DIX/Cat Once submitted, we’ll review it and reach out to approved applicants by phone or email. A Petfinder Inquiry is not the same as an application - COMPLETED APPLICATIONS TAKE PRECEDENCE OVER INQUIRIES. If you are interested in adopting, the FIRST step is to complete an application. If your application was successfully submitted you will get a generated confirmation email. DO NOT SUBMIT AN APPLICATION IF YOU ARE NOT CURRENTLY READY TO ADOPT. WE PERSONALLY TRANSPORT OUR OWN adopted animals to meet their new families. We transport every 2-3 weeks. We facilitate adoptions through our own internal transport to ensure the quality of care. We travel to VA, MD, PA, NJ, CT, VT, and NY. Our dogs travel in comfort with 24/7 care. We have been facilitating long distance adoptions since 2019. We are currently unable to adopt pets to ME and RI residents

Story
Hi, I`m Nala!I came to WCHS after my owner could no longer care for me. I have the silkiest, most beautiful fur when it grows back out. I am a senior lady looking for a quiet home with no other animals to live you my golden years in. I would do best in a home with older, respectful children. If I sound like the right fit for your home, come meet me today!

Story
Hi… I’m Luna.  I’m a black and white long-haired tuxedo girl, which means I’m always dressed up in my fancy coat… even though I’ve been waiting over a year for someone to take me home. I watch other cats leave with their families, and I try to be brave when it’s not my turn.   I’m 7 years old — past the wild kitten days, but still full of love and personality. I adore attention. When you pet me, I’ll melt into your hand and close my eyes like it’s the safest place in the world. I love nap time (especially somewhere soft and warm), and I’m friendly… but I’m also independent. I can entertain myself and carry myself like the queen I am.   And yes… I have some sass. Just a little sparkle of spice to keep things interesting. I know what I want, and what I want is to be your one and only. I need to be the only cat in the home — your one true feline love. I promise I’ll give you enough affection, personality, and companionship to fill every corner. I’ve been here for over a year. That’s a lot of quiet nights and hopeful mornings. My adoption fee has been sponsored because a special person believes I deserve my chance.   I’m still waiting. Still hoping someone sees past the time I’ve been here… and sees me. Will you let me finally go home?    If you are interested in adopting, please fill put an application online at  ahimsahaven.org . Meet and greets are with an approved application by appointment only.   As always, cats that are ready to be adopted are spayed/neutered, have age appropriate shots, are micro-chipped, dewormed/deflead, and FEL/FIV tested.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 7, 2026, 9:47 am

Story
Meet Henry! A very sweet, cuddly 6 year old boy who enjoys giving affectionate head butts and nestling in your arms 24/7. This charming guy came into my space as a foster situation from a negligent environment. He now knows how to play, uses a scratch post, can walk with harness/leash inside and loves being brushed everywhere! The previous caregiver picked Henry up from a shelter at 9 months old. His tail has a break but it functions fully and the cute smirk on his face is due to one side of his mouth being smaller than the other. Likely from a car accident but he does not show pain/discomfort/medical issues. Clean bill of health from the vet! Henry is free to a good home along with all the scratch posts, grooming tools, toys and feline accessories. I will gladly assist with introduction and transition support but he adapts very quickly! If you have other pets he is a little sensitive in the beginning, slow and steady is the ticket along with a dedicated safe zone for Henry.
