Story
Name: Breed: Age: Gender: Weight: Good with cats or Small Animals: Good with dogs: Good with Young Children: Good with Older Children: Fenced Yard Required: Crate-Trained: House Trained: Matti came to Animalert’s care a little worse for wear and in need of some litterbox training. However,  she has come very far and is thriving in the care of one Animalert’s foster homes. Matti is approx. 4 years old, spayed and vaccinated. Matti can be quite timid and easily startled at times and would do best in a quiet home, with someone who is home often. She is a sweet cat that enjoys the simple things in life, sleeping and eating. She often sleeps through the night and likes to start the day by politely waking her foster with gentle pats and grouchy meows. Her favourite time of day is breakfast, this is when she is most affectionate. As such, before meal times is a great time to incorporate a brushing routine. Due to Matti'sbeautiful long coat, frequent brushing is a necessity to prevent matting of the fur and hairballs.  Matti has yet to find a conventional cat toy that she loves or doesn’t get bored of easily, but she absolutely lights up when there is a bug to catch or treats to fetch. Matti has recently become littlerbox efficient, with a key factor in her success being routine, cat attract, and positive reinforcement. To maintain her training, it will be important to establish a routine and prepare for potential mishaps during the transition period after adoption. We recommend the use of pee pads combined with an open litter box with low walls, on an easy to clean floor surface. Story
Name: Breed: Age: Gender: Weight: Good with cats or Small Animals: Good with dogs: Good with Young Children: Good with Older Children: Fenced Yard Required: Crate-Trained: House Trained: 3 yr old Leah and 16 month old Mila have adjusted quickly into their foster home. Ideally they should be adopted together as they enjoy the bond of being mother/daughter. Mila is a beautiful long haired tabby and enjoys chasing the ball inside the track. She loves being brushed and picked up despite being a bit shy and hiding initially when moved into foster care.  Leah is a short haired tabby.  She is good natured, affectionate enjoys a good belly rub and brushing. She claimed the top tier of the climbing tower and can often be found snoozing there. Both cats have been recently spayed and had their first vaccines. They are litter trained and are eating a variety of canned foods. In their past they have lived with older children but would be most happy being the only pets in the home Adoption fee 500.00 519--642-7732 https://www.animalert.ca/apply/cat-adoption If you are interested in providing a forever home, please complete the online adoption application at this link, https://www.animalert.ca/apply/dog-adoption. Story
Meet Leo! This big fluffball is a happy, independent cat. He is about 6.5 yeaars old. Leo is friendly and likes to be pet. His favorite spots are under his chin and his tummy. He loves to sit with his foster parents for attention and when he is done, off he goes for a nap. Leo will allow being picked up but only for short periods. He likes to play with a lazer pointer, and will stalk and pounce toys or small things like cotton balls. Leo loves to talk when he sees you. He also loves temptations and catit creamy treats. Leo would do best as the only cat in a calmer home. Older more respectful children would be okay. Leo does not like the dog in his foster home and is not proven with other cats. As a long haired cat, he will need regular brushing and likely grooming once or twice a year. This handsome boy has been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and has had his teeth cleaned and 6 teeth removed. Leo has had a hard life. He was rescued from a motel where monthly renters were feeding him. Leo does have a grade 3 heart murmur and is FIV positive (FELV negative). He is not taking anything for the heart murmur and FIV does not require any treatment. Leo will require an annual vet visit to check on his heart and we have included information on FIV below. If you have room in your heart & your home for this very handsome fluffball, contact us here, email heartstohomesfelines@gmail.com or fill out an application at heartstohomes.ca. FIV is a feline only virus that cannot be transmitted to people or other animal species. FIV is passed between cats through a deep bite wound – deep enough to inject saliva into the bloodstream of the other cat – commonly occurring in outdoor cats who fight for territory. FIV is not passed between cats through casual contact like sharing food bowls or litter boxes or through playing, wrestling or licking/cleaning each other. Purdue University’s College of Veterinary Medicine conducted a long-term study in cat shelters and found that FIV-positive cats can live with FIV-negative cats and not infect the FIV-negative cats during normal day-to-day interaction. Studies over the last 10 years have also shown that cats with FIV often live as long as otherwise healthy cats that do not have this virus.
