Story
Are you looking for a kitty to hold you accountable when it comes to giving them the best, most exciting life ever?! Well then, Sasha may be your gal. Sasha is very social and affectionate with people she trusts. She absolutely loves resting on your lap or legs while watching TV and being given gentle pats on her head and neck. She doesn't like being held but will tolerate it for brief periods or for trimming her nails. We suspect she is part Siamese which accounts for beautiful big eyes, and the little bit of the CAT-itude. Like most Siamese, affection is on her terms. She connects with some people right away, and ignores/tolerates others. She has a VERY active mind and requires an enriching environment. She needs an owner who is dedicated to keeping her busy with new toys, puzzle games, clicker training, harness walking, or any new activity to keep her mind and body satisfied. Sasha even loves cat tv!! She is smart and can figure out treat puzzles quickly, so she is always looking for a new challenge. Sasha likes to be an active companion in your life and activities. She is very social with the people she loves, and wants to be engaged with whatever they're doing.Sasha is prone to anxiety and over stimulation so a calm environment is best for her. If she feels threatened she will stand her ground and hiss/swat while other cats would probably hide. Sasha enjoys being groomed, however it's imperative to watch her body language as she can get overstimulated and swat. For that reason, it is best for her to be in an adult only home.To help with anxiety and changes in her environment we've started her on an over the counter supplement called Zyklene which has been very effective in helping her to relax. It has made a notable difference (along with keeping her brain busy) in her behaviours and has lessened her decisions to swat. Sasha starts her mornings off with a gentle paw on her foster mom to wake her up. She gets some gentle pets and they start their day. She is a relatively quiet girl, usually only making her meows known around food time. The reason Sasha is in foster even though she is very healthy is because she does extremely poorly in a shelter environment. She is shut down, and completely terrified. Once she is in a calm home she comes out of her shell quickly and becomes a social and affectionate cat!All of this being said Sasha is a very loving kitty that will keep you on your toes, but her beauty and quirky personality is worth it. We know that in the right home, with a dedicated cat owner who is looking for a busy kitty, she will do great. Primary Color: Black Weight: 4.4 Age: 5yrs 7mths 2wks

Little Miss Lola is awaiting her very special home! This young lady is very active and vocal. She is not shy to show her emotions and will let you know how she's feeling always! She gets bored easily and would do well being indoor/outdoor or indoor with safe outdoor access. Lola would prefer to be an only child to get ALL the attention, as well as an adult oriented home. She has some sass to her and can get frustrated if she feels pent up. Lola can be over-stimulated easily here with us after too much handling or when she plays too hard and gets all worked up!Lola is a very friendly, purr fest hoping for an experienced owner that can give her space as needed and pamper her.If you are interesting in Lola please fill out the application online. She can't wait to meet you! Story
Oh Miss Thistle! This munchkin is going to be the star of someone's show. Thistle is such a spunky little gal, with lots of love and snuggles to give. Thistle wants to play, zipping around her catio and playing around with any little toys she has access to. This little firecracker comes right to the door with a vocal greeting, rubbing around our ankles waiting for snuggles. Being picked up isn't her fav, but if its to pop her onto your lap she'll accept it. Thistle is still young, so she sometimes gets into a funky little mood where she plays a bit too hard, so young kids may be an obstacle for her. She may be able to live in tandem with another polite kitty, but being the sole ringleader of the house will be her first choice. Little miss is also very sensitive about her lack of tail, so prefers no one touches it! This girlie can steal hearts, and she's ready to steal yours! Story
Macadamia is a bundle of puuurrrsonality. Macadamia was a young mom whose kittens have recently grown up and she is so ready to find her loving forever family to shower her with all the love fuurever! This little beauty is eager to focus building a stable, trusting and caring relationship with "her" people. Macadamia was found with her days old kittens outside in early Spring. This poor mom was doing her best but was struggling with a heavy flea infestation and malnutrition. She got brought into the shelter, cleaned up and went straight into a quiet foster home. Her first four weeks she was terrified in her new environment and very overwhelmed. As she started to settle in into her new space, she gained the confidence to show her hilarious personality. Macadamia is a talker, she talks with what her foster described as "grumbling". If you are sitting she loves to come and demand petting and will climb right into your lap, talking and purring to you the whole time. It did take awhile for our Macadamia to show this wonderful side of herself. She will need a home where people are willing to let her decompress and earn her trust. She does still struggle with people coming in through the door. She can be confident with "her" people but continues to find it difficult to give newer people grace and is easily startled with new situations/new people. She has been so good, attentive and protective with her babies- we are hopefully once she has her own home she won't feel the need to be so vigilant and can relax fully with her forever family. If you are ready to open your hearts- this mommy promises to give you a belated thank you with all the merps, grumblies and purring butt waggles post her decompression time. Could be fun! Story
Hi I'm Forrest, and like my name suggests, I'm beautiful, majestic, and grand. I'm currently in a foster home while I'm searching for my fur-ever home and am loving the extra attention and love I'm getting! My foster (Hi foster mom!) says that though I may start off shy, I will quickly warm up to pats with lots of purring and affection! I particularly like to snuggle right in close, especially when I feel safe and secure. A quiet home is my preference as the noise of a busy house puts me on edge and I will give the odd swat or bite to let you know of my displeasure. A calm home and treats are truly the key to my heart. Although, maybe I've had a couple too many treats as I've put on a few extra pounds over the years (who hasn't?!). The shelter staff has told me that I need to start a diet plan and get my new paw-rent to help me get in shape with a new svelte summer bod. Story
Meet Ray! Ray, at 2 days old, arrived at our branch with his mom, Faye. Faye was brought in desperate need of veterinary care, having struggled to deliver the rest of her kittens. Unfortunately, Fay suffered a prolapsed uterus, and despite efforts to birth her kittens, she was unable to do so. Upon arrival, staff rushed her to a veterinary clinic where it was discovered that she was on the brink of sepsis. Fay underwent an emergency c-section to remove the babies who sadly did not make it. While Fay was under medical care, her surviving kitten, Ray was sent to a foster home, where she was bottle-fed every two hours. Once Faye had sufficiently recovered from surgery, Fay and Ray were reunited in foster care, where they have remained inseparable ever since.Ray has now weaned and will be spayed May 3rd! We are looking for a local foster to adopt for this bonded pair!A note from their foster!:"Fay and Sweet Baby RayMeet this bonded pair Momma Fay and Baby Ray. Fay is almost a baby herself at 11 months old but has proven to be a wonderful mom to Ray who is now 10 weeks old. This duo are a bit on the shy side at first but warm up quickly to new people . Fay is an independent gal that loves to explore but always makes sure Baby Ray is safe . Both love to play and can be seen and heard chasing each other all over the place. When tired they love to swoop in for cuddles and kisses . Both are very affectionate and can't wait to be in their forever home together."SB: 588097https://spca.bc.ca/survey/cat-adoption-application-sunshine-coast/PLEASE NOTE: This cat is located on the Sunshine Coast and travel via BC Ferries is required to adopt. Story
*** Adopt-a-pet requires that the fields for breed, sex, colour, and hair length be filled in on this ad, although in reality our barn cats are not all black shorthaired females. Also, corresponding photos to this ad are of feral cats that have come through our system. That particular cat may or may not be available now. Generally, suitable placements receive barn cats of whatever colour we have available. Colour requests can be made, but can't usually be met quickly, if at all. *** We operate a trap-neuter-return (TNR) program for feral cats in the Cowichan Valley, and the 'R' part of that process is very important. We cannot take feral cats away from property owners who don't want to be bothered with looking after them. We fix hundreds of ferals every year, we have no head office or shelter, we are simply a network of volunteers who work out of our own homes, and so all ferals (aside from tiny kittens) must be returned to where they came from, with an agreement with the property owner that he/she will feed them after we have 'fixed' and returned them. That being said, there are rare circumstances where a feral cat cannot go back to where it came from. For example, in 2013 we removed a champagne coloured cat from a construction site where she was living and raising kittens. She was at risk of injury if she stayed there, and after the construction company left there would be no one to continue feeding her. In this way, we are always looking for 'barn homes' where we can place a pair of feral cats to save their lives. All barn cats are spayed or neutered and have received their first shots. We always send them out in pairs so that they have a friend (and this also helps reduce the chance that they will run away later). Barn cats can be placed on a farm, acreage, vineyard, warehouse, or even a backyard. We place them free of charge, but we need to make sure of a few things first. The property owner must agree to give the cat one meal of cat food every day and fresh water, forever. The cats will still take care of the rodents in your yard as you want them to. Starving cats are so desperate for a meal that they don't make good mousers. So a meal a day is essential. The cats must be able to get out of the wind and the rain. We can provide you with a Styrofoam cat shelter so that they stay snug. We also need to make sure that the home is not located on a busy road where it is likely that the cats will be run over. We always ask about dogs, as it is upsetting when we hear that barn cats ran away from their new home on account of a dog's presence (not necessarily because the dog was badly behaved, but simply because feral cats are scared of dogs). Generally, dogs are not suitable to have on the same property as barn cats. A very mellow, sluggish-type dog that is disinterested in cats can be okay. The cats must be in lockdown in an escape-proof holding space for one month so that they get used to you, their new feeder, and learn that this is their new home and food comes from you. This space can be a workshop, tack room, garage, outbuilding, etc., and if you don't have something along those lines then we can loan you an extra large wire dog kennel to keep the cats in for the month. If the shed or similar space is quite small and the cats are at risk of bolting past when the door is open, the wire kennel will be needed. After the month of lockdown, the cats can be released outside, and they should stick around. Barn homes are very, very useful to our work. If you can meet the requirements outlined above and are willing to take on a couple of barn cats who will provide you with environmentally friendly, non-toxic rodent control, we would love to hear from you.
