Story
Meatball is a friendly, playful guy who is about a year and half old. He is Fiv+, but he`s not aggressive, so he is safe to mix with other cats. He is currently in a temporary home with two older cats who are not into playing, much to Meatball`s dismay. If you have a playful kitty who needs a playmate, consider Meatball! He also gets along with small children. He is vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped. He has had flea prevention and dewormer. The adult cat adoption fee is $50. If you are interested in meeting this adorable guy, please complete the cat adoption form and we will set up a time for you to meet him.Application: https://safehomerescue.org/how-to-adopt/cat-adoption-form/

Story
- Shy, gentle lady looking for a very calm, peaceful home with someone that she can bond with - She has exceptionally soft, black fur- She is not a lap cat, and prefers not to be picked up, but once she gets to know your, she is a real snuggle bug when you are still and resting in bed. She really can be affectionate and loving, but it will take her time - Young, noisy or very active kids are just too much for her, so she is looking for a mature home- Has lived with another cat and may do well with a calm, laid-back cat in her new home- Looking for a home with patient family members who will give her time to open up and let her take things at her own pace. She does best when she starts out in her own room and is slowly introduced to the rest of the house and other pets over a few weeks- Has a lot of love to give and will be a wonderful companion for a quiet person or two who will allow her to settle in at her own slow pace. It took several weeks for her to become comfortable with her foster family when she was in foster care, so plan on giving her a few weeks in her new home, too. She is worth the wait! - May have feline idiopathic cystitis (FIC), but did very well in her quiet foster home and showed no signs of the condition there (more info at ARL) This cat is part of our Silver Paw Pets program, a foster and adoption program for pets who arrive at the ARL after their owner either passed away or was moved to a care facility where they could not take their pet. If you're interested in adopting this pet, please visit the location it's at or reach out if there is contact info listed above. If you'd like to foster this pet or another Silver Paw Pet, please email Mary at mmccarroll@arl-iowa.org.- This cat can be fearful and may need extra time to adjust to a new home. We have seen good progress here at the ARL, but don't be surprised if it takes several weeks for this cat to become comfortable in a new place. This cat may hide and just observe at first - maybe for quite a while - and that is perfectly normal. Young children are too much for this cat right now, so we are highly recommending a quiet, mature home. We will provide post-adoption resources, including our free cat behavior hotline (515-262-9503, Ext. 311). If you can give this cat extra time, patience and TLC, please consider adopting! It will be so rewarding to watch them gain confidence and start enjoying all the good things in life! All adoptable cats and kittens are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and FVRCP as appropriate for their age) Primary Color: Black Weight: 5.64 Age: 8yrs 3mths 0wks

To schedule a time to meet this cat, please contact Mary at mmccarroll@arl-iowa.org ---- Very sweet cat who welcomes attention and wants to be near her humans- Will cuddle up close to you when you sleep- She likes to look out the window to see what is happening outdoors- Her purr is very soft and will start almost the instant you start petting her- Is not a fan of other cats, and will be happiest as your one and only- Young, busy children will likely be too much for her, so she is looking for a more mature home that is calmer - Will be a wonderful friend for a calm, patient person who loves the quiet life just like she does- She will likely be shy when you first bring her home, and will need to be set up in her own quiet room at first, and then gradually allowed to explore the rest of her home at her own pace- She is a cat who will bond closely with her humans, and will be a devoted friend for lifeThis cat can be fearful and may need extra time to adjust to a new home. Story
- Takes time to warm up to you, so let him go at the pace he feels comfortable withThis cat has shown signs of overstimulation while in the shelter. Lots of handling, playing with hands, and excessive petting can cause them to overstimulate, which can result in scratching and/or biting. This cat is looking for experienced cat owners who will watch this cat's body language while interacting to note signs of overstimulation (tail waving, fur rippling, dilated pupils, ears turned back and quick body movements) and be willing to respect their boundaries. This cat will also benefit from interactive toys such as wands and ball spinners while playing. We are happy to speak with you more when you visit and can provide post-adoption resources. If you can give this cat mental stimulation, patience and space when they need it, please consider adopting! They would love to be your sidekick and buddy for life!
