Sometimes a dog comes back to us, and we wish more than anything that we could change the one thing that made it impossible for them to stay. For Chance, that thing is something she has no control over—the Florida weather.Chance is a 4-year-old Dutch Shepherd/Malinois mix who has already experienced what it feels like to have a home, and we know she is hoping her next one will be forever. She is a smart, sweet girl who loves her Nylabones, absolutely believes food is the answer to everything, and enjoys leisurely walks where she can stop and sniff to her heart's content. She knows her sit and down, is working on her stay, and is house-trained and good with other dogs. When life is calm, Chance is also perfectly comfortable spending a normal workday home alone.Unfortunately, storms are anything but calm for Chance. Her fear of thunderstorms is extreme, and without significant medication and careful management, she can become so terrified that she hurts herself or destroys things around her. Having someone home helps, but doesn't completely take the fear away.That's why we're looking for a very special adopter—someone who lives outside of Florida where severe storms are less frequent, or someone who is home most of the time and is prepared to patiently manage her through stormy weather.Chance isn't defined by her fear. She's a loving, goofy, intelligent girl who just needs someone willing to understand the part of her that is scared. After already losing one home because of something she can't control, we desperately want her next chance to be the one that lasts. 🐾❤️Requirements: Martingale Collar; Extreme Storm AnxietyAll of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, heart worm or feleuk/FIV tested, fecal tested, rabies and tag, and microchipped before being placed in your home. Our adoption fee helps cover this cost.

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Olivia!Olivia came to PRBJ from an overcrowded out of state rescue.  She was brought in by the Pilots for Paws which bring dogs from rural places to larger cities to help them find a home.  Unfortunately, Olivia had been waiting at this rescue since 2024 when she came in with her litter of pups.  He pups were adopted, while Olivia sat and waited.  She loves people and we are working with her on reactivity to other dogs.  It seems when she is out and about that she does well, but when in the kennels, she is not fond of any dog. Story
Looking for a loving home for our sweet 8-year-old German Shepherd. She is a beautiful black-and-tan girl who is incredibly loving, loyal, and playful. Her absolute favorite thing in the world is fetch—she would play all day if you let her! She is great with kids and other dogs, and she has been wonderful with our new baby. Rehoming her is an extremely difficult decision, but our circumstances have changed. We recently welcomed a baby, and caring for a newborn has been a lot on my wife while I work long shifts. She also has severe storm anxiety that we have been unable to get under control. She needs someone who can be with her during thunderstorms to keep her safe and comfortable, which unfortunately isn’t possible with our current schedule. She is a wonderful dog, and we love her dearly. We are looking for someone who has the time, patience, and love to give her the life she deserves. We will be selective about her new home.
