Story
Jimmy is a guesstimated 5 year old 66 pound male Dutch Shepherd. He caused a bit of ruckus for a couple of days running up and down and around State Road 3. We were finally able to catch him and bring him into the shelter. In the 13 days he has been with us, not one word was heard from an owner. Which is sad since we don't get to know his real name or his previous home experiences. Jimmy has shown he has some training, sits and lays down on command! He is a little bit of a puller, but by far not the worst we have had, on a leash. When the people are chit chatting and not paying him attention, he just takes a seat or lays down quietly waiting nicely for you to offer attention. This though is in far contrast to his kennel presence. He seems to have extreme anxiety being kenneled/confined. To the point he paces, jumps, dances, scrapes his nose and toes, and well makes a general mess of his kennel. To help lower his anxiety and give his best first impression we are requiring interested Adopters to request to see him as he will be in a non-public area of the shelter. Even though he was a stray, we were able to determine he is very likely potty trained (if he has regular access to outside), seems willing to make friends with dogs, and ignores cats. But of course since he came in as a stray we really don't know his previous history. We also need to mention that he may have been the culprit to some cattle destruction so we do not recommend having or living near livestock. ADOPTION FEE: LOCAL $100 NON-LOCAL $140 All dogs receive at least 1 distemper/parvo and Bordetella vaccine. If possible a heartworm test will be done and if negative the dog will be started on heartworm prevention. All animals receive a flea and parasite prevention/treatment and will be microchipped. All animals can go home the same day as adoption. We will need your photo ID and you will sign some documents. Adopters will also receive a copy of the animal's medical history to date. We do not do an application process. All adoptions are first come, first serve. We do not offer holds. We do not require in most cases that adopters bring all their families members and dogs for a meet and greet. But we do highly encourage it. We are happy to introduce the new dog to your dog(s) at the shelter. No appointment necessary. We do offer home trials of dogs over 6 months of age for about a week. You will not need to pay the adoption fee (spay neuter deposit) ahead of time, but if you decide to adopt you will need to return to the shelter to complete the paperwork and pay the adoption deposit. If you do not wish to complete the adoption, you can bring the dog back at any time during normal business hours during your home trial period. We do not allow after hours drop off.

Story
I have a beautiful 2-year-old female Black German Shepherd, spayed, loving, and energetic. Sadly, due to personal and financial challenges, I can no longer give her the care, time, and attention she deserves. She has been raised with love, and I always cook her meals since she doesn’t eat kibble. She is loyal, healthy, and affectionate, and it breaks my heart to part with her, but I want her to find a safe, happy home where she’ll be cherished. She has received professional training twice—once with Sit Means Sit and again with a dog behaviorist—and has learned many commands. While she’s made great progress, she still has a few quirks, like occasionally jumping on cars or randomly on people and dogs, which can be improved with continued consistency and patience. I am looking for someone who will love her like family and give her the attention she needs. She will always hold a place in my heart, and I will miss her dearly, but she deserves the very best.
