You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Online Adoption Application › Meet CoyShe is house broke an loves to lay on the couch. She will not leave your side and like a typical Shepard she is always pacing back and forth to check on everyone. She does not like to be crated or put in a kennel, she will escape. She is great with other dogs and kids. We are unsure about cats. Coy was picked up as a stray, so we are unsure of her past, but she seems to be a typical Shepherd and will need an owner familiar with her breed. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 28, 2026, 8:09 am

Story
Rory is a sweet, independent girl who has officially retired from the chaos of life and is now focused on the important things: soft beds, regular meals, and keeping a quiet watch over her people. She’s not a cuddle bug—and that’s okay. Rory prefers to share space rather than be in your lap. She likes to know where her humans are at all times and will happily follow you from room to room, then settle into her dog bed nearby to supervise. Rory is calm and low-key. Visitors don’t faze her—she’ll likely snooze right through a holiday gathering. Car rides? No problem. She simply curls up and sleeps. She currently lives with two large dogs and does just fine, enjoys a little playtime a few times a day, and would likely be okay with cats as well. Rory enjoys exploring the yard and would do best with a fenced area. She’s not great on a leash, so yard time is her happy place. She’s not demanding, not clingy, and not flashy. Rory is for the person or couple who is mostly home, appreciates quiet companionship, and understands that love doesn’t always look like cuddling—it can look like a watchful presence, a wagging tail at shoe time, and gentle mouthing that says, “Hey, don’t forget about me.” Rory just wants a soft place to land and people she can keep an eye on. If you’re looking for a peaceful companion who will share your space—and your routine—she might be your perfect match. If you are interested in learning more about Rory, please call 812-988-7362 or submit an adoption application at the link below. After the application is received, an adoption counselor can reach out to you directly. https://www.bchumane.org/adoption-application/ *All dogs will be neutered, vaccinated with age-appropriate vaccines, heartworm tested, current on parasite prevention and microchipped.

Story
Jimmy is a guesstimated 5 year old 66 pound male Dutch Shepherd. He caused a bit of ruckus for a couple of days running up and down and around State Road 3. We were finally able to catch him and bring him into the shelter. In the 13 days he has been with us, not one word was heard from an owner. Which is sad since we don't get to know his real name or his previous home experiences. Jimmy has shown he has some training, sits and lays down on command! He is a little bit of a puller, but by far not the worst we have had, on a leash. When the people are chit chatting and not paying him attention, he just takes a seat or lays down quietly waiting nicely for you to offer attention. This though is in far contrast to his kennel presence. He seems to have extreme anxiety being kenneled/confined. To the point he paces, jumps, dances, scrapes his nose and toes, and well makes a general mess of his kennel. To help lower his anxiety and give his best first impression we are requiring interested Adopters to request to see him as he will be in a non-public area of the shelter. Even though he was a stray, we were able to determine he is very likely potty trained (if he has regular access to outside), seems willing to make friends with dogs, and ignores cats. But of course since he came in as a stray we really don't know his previous history. We also need to mention that he may have been the culprit to some cattle destruction so we do not recommend having or living near livestock. ADOPTION FEE: LOCAL $100 NON-LOCAL $140 All dogs receive at least 1 distemper/parvo and Bordetella vaccine. If possible a heartworm test will be done and if negative the dog will be started on heartworm prevention. All animals receive a flea and parasite prevention/treatment and will be microchipped. All animals can go home the same day as adoption. We will need your photo ID and you will sign some documents. Adopters will also receive a copy of the animal's medical history to date. We do not do an application process. All adoptions are first come, first serve. We do not offer holds. We do not require in most cases that adopters bring all their families members and dogs for a meet and greet. But we do highly encourage it. We are happy to introduce the new dog to your dog(s) at the shelter. No appointment necessary. We do offer home trials of dogs over 6 months of age for about a week. You will not need to pay the adoption fee (spay neuter deposit) ahead of time, but if you decide to adopt you will need to return to the shelter to complete the paperwork and pay the adoption deposit. If you do not wish to complete the adoption, you can bring the dog back at any time during normal business hours during your home trial period. We do not allow after hours drop off.

Story
Meet Lafayette!A 44lb, 2-year-old male Australian Shepherd with a heart as big as his energy level. He was recently adopted and returned about a month later—through no fault of his own. He’s still learning that the world is a safe place and can be a bit timid when meeting new people. According to his previous owner, Lafayette does well with other dogs and enjoys canine companionship. He isn’t a fan of being crated, and he hasn’t had experience with children or cats yet. He’s a high-energy boy who loves to play and would thrive in an active home that can keep both his body and mind busy. He’s people-friendly, enjoys attention, and doesn’t seem to mind the company of other dogs.Lafayette can get a bit jumpy when he’s excited, so he would do best in a home with older children who can handle his enthusiasm. With the right family, this smart and spirited Aussie will make a loyal, joyful companion. We do all adoptions with approved applicants by appointment only. Story
Meet Filigree!Filigree is a 1½-year-old male dog with a gentle soul and a thoughtful approach to the world. He thrives in calm, quiet environments where he can feel safe and relaxed. While he’s a truly lovely companion, Filigree isn’t a fan of sudden movements or a lot of commotion.Filigree enjoys playing with his toys in short, happy bursts, then will happily check back in with his people for reassurance or affection. He’s very people-oriented and values that connection, making him a sweet and attentive companion once he feels comfortable.Because of his sensitive nature, Filigree would do best in a home without small children. He may be open to sharing his home with another dog, provided it’s the right match—calm, respectful, and well-mannered companions suit him best.If you’re looking for a loyal, gentle dog who appreciates a quieter lifestyle and meaningful companionship, Filigree could be the perfect fit for your home.We do all adoptions with approved applicants by appointment only.
