Story
Meet Milo, he is a 5 year old, 25 lb. Chihuahua mix. He was surrendered along with a few dozen other dogs from a hoarder/backyard breeding situation. His foster mom says he is a soft soul, who can best be described as uncomfortable with the unfamiliar & needs patience & time to figure out where he fits in. His foster mom says from day one his tail constantly wagged & desperately wants to connect with people but would dart if you got too close seeming confused by direct human interaction but in a week or so would jump on her lap & crawl all over her not seeming to understand manners but eager to please. His foster mom says it is incredibly sweet when he circles a few times on the couch, calms down & sits next her, she can feel him sigh as he releases his anxiety & then his sweet snoring tells her he feels safe. Milo is eager to learn & looks to his foster mom for cues, but need patience as he doesn’t understand the difference between toys or shoes laying on the floor or between a toy & a remote on a side table. Milo didn’t understand what a leash was but has gone from circling his foster mom, to now being curious & walking alongside his foster mom’s dog while looking back for approval. It has really helped to have his foster mom’s dog who can mentor proper manners on a walk, in the yard & in the house. Milo is very submissive & would benefit from an easy-going dog friend but don’t think he needs one. However, his foster mom thinks he would have a hard time with a dominant dog & also young children in that both would overwhelm him. Milo has only had a few accidents as he got used to a bathroom routine. He is fed in a kennel, in that probably from being in a situation with so many dogs, he would take a couple kibbles & run to corner to eat & his foster mom’s dog would take that opportunity to eat the rest of Milo’s food – lol. But Milo has a good appetite & after a week or so was excited to take treats whenever offered. His foster mom often calls him her ‘brave boy’ – each day facing new situations & being willing to take one step at a time to trust life will get better!!
