Story
THE UNLIKELY DUO: 'Boo' the Shar Pei and 'Pickle's the Flat Coated Retriever! These two dogs found each other in the unlikeliest of places-a shelter. They formed an inseparable bond from the moment they met becoming BFF's. Pickles has had a tough start to life with a background of uncertainty and insecurity. Having lived in an outdoor pit of his own filth, he was never socialized with humans and therefore struggled with confidence and trust. Staff have been working patiently and tirelessly on developing his confidence around new people and experiences and knew he needed someone patient and understanding to help him blossom. That someone turned out to be Boo. Her playful antics and boundless energy brought joy not only to Pickles but also the staff and volunteers who witnessed their friendship unfold. Whether they were engaged in a game of chase or simply chilling together, their presence was a source of entertainment. Boo has a big, quirky personality in a small package. Boo arrived with a severe skin condition that is being managed through diet and baths and will likely need to be continued for the rest of her life. Boo is usually quite confident but in certain situations, she can get a little nervous. She knows when to seek out a quiet spot if she needs a break. Neither dog would be suitable for young children.Pickles is still learning to trust people but has been accepting and seeking out pets. Learning to walk on a leash is still something that will have to be worked on. We have been introducing a harness to him and he has shown us just how much he has progressed. Pickles loves toys, especially squeaky toys, and can be very playful! He is very silly and loves to play with his shelter bestie, Boo. Each and everyday he gets a little braver and his personality shines. He is a retriever after all and has that silly personality where everything should go in his mouth. Toys, blankets the occasional broom lol! Ideally, Pickles and Boo would be adopted together. Boo has really shown Pickles how to be a dog and that it is okay to trust people. The two of them have become very close and spend their days by each other's side. We recognize this is a big ask due to their different needs, but we think a home together would be what is best for both of them. Primary Color: Black Weight: 23.6 Age: 0yrs 11mths 3wks

*PLEASE READ*Meet Louie!Louie has had a tough start to life with a background of uncertainty and insecurity. Having lived in an outdoor pit of his own filth, he was not socialized with humans and therefore struggles with confidence and trust. Staff have been working patiently and tirelessly on developing his confidence around new people and experiences. Louie is still learning to trust people and is learning to accept pets, although he enjoys having human company, even if it is just sitting near him in the yard. Learning to seek out pets and walking on a leash is still something that will need work with patient and understanding adopters. Louie enjoys having another canine keeping him company, and is confident when he has his brother Lincoln around. Louie could go to a home with Lincoln, or another confident and patient canine friend who can help him flourish. Louie can be shy when meeting new dogs at first and will need a slow and proper introduction to make sure things go smoothly. Although having a friend would be beneficial, he may also do well in a home as the sole dog, given his adopters are able to commit time to work on gaining his trust and building a bond. Due to his nervousness and shyness with new people, it is preferred for potential adopters to meet him at least twice in shelter and establish a good enough relationship before bringing him home. As he is still quite shy, a calm and quiet home with no young children is ideal.Louie loves toys, especially squeaky toys, and can be very playful! He loves investigating new toys and dragging them around. He loves treats and can be vocal when demanding more. Each and every day he gets a little braver and his personality shines. He is a retriever after all and has that silly personality where everything should go in his mouth. Louie enjoys water and sometimes takes a dip in his outdoor pool. Since Louie has lived outdoors his whole life, he is still not quite used to living indoors. His new home would need to have a fully enclosed outdoor area for him to stay in while he adjusts to indoor life. 💙🐾Do you think you could be Louie's person? Story
Hi there. My name is DASH (Boris) and here is a little info about me:Breed: Flat Coated Retriever mixAge: 2 years oldGender: MaleWeight: 28 kgHeight: 47 cmHighlights: gentle, outgoing, friendly, social, watchful Despite my hardships growing up, I possess a gentle spirit and a pair of soulful eyes that speak of resilience.I had a rough start. Born on the streets of Turkey, I had to learn to survive. My days were filled with scavenging for food, avoiding larger dogs, and seeking shelter in hidden corners. I used to live on a university campus and was a community dog. However, it did not take long before university management started to collect all dogs and put them in a municipal shelter, which is simply a death sentence for a dog here. My community of volunteers didn’t let this happen and placed me into a boarding facility.Known for my friendly and outgoing nature, I form strong bonds with my peeps. I am often eager to please. With my glossy coat and playful demeanour, I will become a beloved member of your family, capturing the hearts of everyone in your home. This social butterfly thrives on human interaction and I am always eager to make new friends. My warm, expressive eyes reflect my affectionate nature, and my tail wags enthusiastically at the sight of anyone willing to give me attention. I am highly food-motivated. This can be an advantage in training. I can be influenced by other dogs’ temperaments, so I would be a good companion to a calm dog with a proper introduction. https://youtu.be/MEMyoAgcpt0.Despite my friendly nature, I harbour a peculiar aversion to men wearing hats. I know, kinda strange, hunh? It's a mystery to everyone, as I react with a mixture of curiosity and caution whenever I encounter someone sporting a hat. In addition, in addition, I may exhibit a sense of loyalty that makes me watchful over my loved ones. You will find me playful and entertaining. I love to play, run, and engage in various activities. Regular exercise is essential to keep me happy. I do know how to walk on leash: https://youtu.be/nFyYiib-eC4. Car rides are ever so fun:  https://youtu.be/DGT3vJ-thJENo idea how I am around kids and cats, I've never interacted with them. If you plan to adopt a dog for the first time or you are not an experienced dog owner, you should consider working with a trainer, as this bud has stayed in a boarding house for a long time and forgotten the city life manners. But here I am with a buddy:  http://https:\\youtu.be/DZ--QRmwFa0.Waiting for you to click that adopt button that gets me winging your way for loves and licks. Health notes:I have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. My adoption fee is $800.00 CAD plus applicable taxes. This includes my transportation to Canada, if I am able to be accompanied by a flight volunteer directly to Vancouver. Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live. Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you. While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or  Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 - $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs. The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs. Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website. [MID-EAST] *Vaccinations: Dogs from the Middle East are vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, leptospirosis, adenovirus type 1 and para-influenza. Bordetella is not given, as that has not been a problem in the Middle East. [TURKEY] *Dogs receive 4D SNAP tests - which include: Heartworm, Ehrlichiosis, Leishmania and Anaplasmosis. ##1913656##

Story
Greetings fine peeps. My name is BASIL (Pepper) and here's some info about me:Breed: Flat Coated RetrieverAge: 4 yearsGender: FemaleWeight: 29-1/2 kgHeight:  61 cm Loyalty and Intelligence are my hallmark traits, as you will see in a moment reading my story.Under my rescuer's care, I was then adopted by a family. Sadly, my adopted family faced many legal problems with their neighbors for owning a dog inside their apartment, ss is typical here in Lebanon. In the end, they were faced with an ultimatum; change homes or return me back to the facility. So, I was returned and have been with them now since February 2022.An interesting story about me (here's the amazing part I mentioned) is that I saved the family’s youngest son from being run over by a car! I was out on a walk with my adopted family when a car drifted by and almost hit the youngest member of my family. Luckily, I recognized the threat in time and was quick on my paws. I caught the boy by his shirt’s collar and dragged him aside, making me the family’s hero! To me, I was just doing the job a dog should be doing.I'm a clever girl, who will happily show you my obedient side. Being an affectionate pupper, you'll find me by your side ready for love, giving and getting.Since I am still a playful dog: https://youtu.be/7HKTEpiS_20, who gets along great with other dogs and who LOVES to swim, I sure hope we'll be able to include some trips to the river, lakes and/or beaches. A kiddie pool would be fun too. We can have such great adventures together... side by side, becoming bffs. Story
7 year old Finn (Finny) of Victoria is looking for a home. This handsome boy, weighing 60lbs may be a lab x shepherd. Finn is a sweet, handsome, sensitive, smart boy who is dedicated and affectionate with his people. He loves tummy rubs, ear scratches, back rubs and will request more with a gentle paw or moan. Finn loves spending time with his people but is good alone. Finn is timid with strangers and prefers his home to be a sanctuary for his family. He is afraid of young kids and cats. Finn is good with dogs, doesn't pull on leash and has good recall. Finn is food motivated, house trained, and knows his standard commands. He loves a backyard where he can relax, sun bathe and play tag. Finn has a big bark but only uses it to alert you to visitors, doorbells, and cats. Finn was found as a very young puppy in parking lot with his mum and 10 siblings in Mexico and spent his first 10 months in a shelter which is why strangers and loud noises are scary. He likes a safe quiet space to rest and call his own when things are too hectic. He is looking for a compassionate, quiet home with a yard… a squeak toy, stuffy, bone, or even some paper to shred wouldn’t hurt either ! For enquiries please email pvcaadoptions@gmail.com, or go directly to our application here: https://forms.office.com/r/b1Fkq3u4zw

Story
4 year old Trini is a shelter sweetheart, with a lovely disposition, and very popular with the volunteers, as she is a calming influence. Trini was abandoned on a road near the SPCA PV sanctuary and was lucky to be taken into care as she was malnourished, and surely tired from trying to survive. She is a mixed breed – our guess is lab shepherd cross, with a beautiful lean physique and expressive eyes. She is full grown at 40 lbs. Trini is a wise girl, who reads people and dogs well. If they seem threatening, she avoids them, but if welcoming, she approaches with kindness. Trini is also good with cats showing a similar wise approach when she was tested. She would ignore them in a non threatening way, and then explore smelling them when it felt safe. Trini is also good in the car, curious about the adventure, and she has been a shelter ambassador at a Saturday market. Trini is healthy, spayed and vaccinated and looking for a better life with a family who will love her. If you think you might be a good fit, we'd love to hear from you by email at pvcaadoptions@gmail.com or by filling in our online application: https://forms.office.com/r/b1Fkq3u4zw Trini is in care at the sanctuary in Mexico but has flight options to Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, or Seattle. This girl is a gem!
