Story
At 6 years old and 90 pounds, Frankie is every bit the classic big, handsome black Lab — strong, loyal, and full of heart. He’s currently waiting for his perfect match, and while he may not be the right fit for everyone, the right home will find an incredible companion in him. If there’s one thing that instantly brings out Frankie’s joyful side, it’s a tennis ball. He lives to play fetch. Throw it once, and you’ll see his whole demeanor light up. Fetch isn’t just a game for Frankie — it’s his passion, his workout routine, and his love language all rolled into one. A fenced yard where he can chase his beloved ball would be a dream come true. Frankie has lived around livestock without issues, making him a potentially great fit for a rural or country home setting. He’s comfortable in that environment and appreciates having space. Frankie truly believes his job in life is to protect his people. He forms deep bonds with his family and takes that responsibility seriously. Because of this, he can be unsure around new people and unfamiliar dogs. He needs thoughtful introductions and a confident handler who understands his guardian-type tendencies. For these reasons, he requires an adult-only home. Veterinary visits are also not his favorite activity. He will require a home that understands how to advocate for him in those situations and work patiently with veterinary professionals to keep him comfortable and safe. Frankie is not a beginner dog. He is a big personality in a big body, and he needs an experienced, confident owner who will provide structure, leadership, and love. In return, he will offer fierce loyalty, endless games of fetch, and the kind of devotion only a Lab with a purpose can give. If you think you might be the right match for Frankie, Satchel’s Last Resort Animal Shelter would love to introduce you to this devoted boy.

Story
Meet 8-year-old Bernie! Bernie traveled a long way to get to Satchel’s. He came to us from Ohio and has been on a journey ever since. He’s spent the last 4 years in our Woof Pack program spending several hours a week with his WP leader (Gail) working with him on his anxiety and opening up his life to new experiences all while we study Bernie to determine what kind of home would make this special boy be the best dog he can be. Bernie wasn’t always agreeable to jumping in the car but he has learned it takes him further away for longer periods of time, it’s not so scary and he can explore until his head is filled with adventure. Car rides are now one of his favorite things to do, riding shot gun, watching the world go by outside the passenger window. He loves to meet people of all ages on his adventures. Pack walks with other dogs and doggie playgroups are something Bernie enjoys. He would likely do well in a home with a canine companion or in a home where he has “his person” entirely to himself. We’ve found the mental stimulation of trainings such as Scent and Agility is keeping his mind occupied and times of anxiety are less frequent. Bernie loves laying around in the kiddie pools at Satchel’s. He can be an escape artist and can’t be left alone even in a fenced-in yard. Bernie is ready for his forever home! He would thrive with an active lifestyle, going places and doing things, exploring. A home with an outdoorsy person who can spend lots of time away from the house with Bernie. A crate would be Bernie’s safe place when in the home. He is currently on meds for his anxiety but in a home with lots of activities and a loving caregiver, the meds could possibly be eliminated or at least minimized. For an appointment to meet Bernie, please submit the no obligation adoption application found at Satchelslastresort.org.
