Story
Meet 8-year-old Bernie! Bernie traveled a long way to get to Satchel’s. He came to us from Ohio and has been on a journey ever since. He’s spent the last 4 years in our Woof Pack program spending several hours a week with his WP leader (Gail) working with him on his anxiety and opening up his life to new experiences all while we study Bernie to determine what kind of home would make this special boy be the best dog he can be. Bernie wasn’t always agreeable to jumping in the car but he has learned it takes him further away for longer periods of time, it’s not so scary and he can explore until his head is filled with adventure. Car rides are now one of his favorite things to do, riding shot gun, watching the world go by outside the passenger window. He loves to meet people of all ages on his adventures. Pack walks with other dogs and doggie playgroups are something Bernie enjoys. He would likely do well in a home with a canine companion or in a home where he has “his person” entirely to himself. We’ve found the mental stimulation of trainings such as Scent and Agility is keeping his mind occupied and times of anxiety are less frequent. Bernie loves laying around in the kiddie pools at Satchel’s. He can be an escape artist and can’t be left alone even in a fenced-in yard. Bernie is ready for his forever home! He would thrive with an active lifestyle, going places and doing things, exploring. A home with an outdoorsy person who can spend lots of time away from the house with Bernie. A crate would be Bernie’s safe place when in the home. He is currently on meds for his anxiety but in a home with lots of activities and a loving caregiver, the meds could possibly be eliminated or at least minimized. For an appointment to meet Bernie, please submit the no obligation adoption application found at Satchelslastresort.org.

Story
At 6 years old and 90 pounds, Frankie is every bit the classic big, handsome black Lab — strong, loyal, and full of heart. He’s currently waiting for his perfect match, and while he may not be the right fit for everyone, the right home will find an incredible companion in him. If there’s one thing that instantly brings out Frankie’s joyful side, it’s a tennis ball. He lives to play fetch. Throw it once, and you’ll see his whole demeanor light up. Fetch isn’t just a game for Frankie — it’s his passion, his workout routine, and his love language all rolled into one. A fenced yard where he can chase his beloved ball would be a dream come true. Frankie has lived around livestock without issues, making him a potentially great fit for a rural or country home setting. He’s comfortable in that environment and appreciates having space. Frankie truly believes his job in life is to protect his people. He forms deep bonds with his family and takes that responsibility seriously. Because of this, he can be unsure around new people and unfamiliar dogs. He needs thoughtful introductions and a confident handler who understands his guardian-type tendencies. For these reasons, he requires an adult-only home. Veterinary visits are also not his favorite activity. He will require a home that understands how to advocate for him in those situations and work patiently with veterinary professionals to keep him comfortable and safe. Frankie is not a beginner dog. He is a big personality in a big body, and he needs an experienced, confident owner who will provide structure, leadership, and love. In return, he will offer fierce loyalty, endless games of fetch, and the kind of devotion only a Lab with a purpose can give. If you think you might be the right match for Frankie, Satchel’s Last Resort Animal Shelter would love to introduce you to this devoted boy.

Story
🐶❤️ From Forgotten... to Forever Loved. ❤️🐶 These precious puppies have already overcome more in their first few weeks of life than any puppy ever should. Born around June 11, these sweet babies—and their incredible mama—were abandoned when their owners moved out of their apartment, leaving them behind. 💔 Mom and her 9 puppies were discovered alone, frightened, covered in fleas, and severely underweight. Thankfully, they were rescued just in time. ❤️ Today, thanks to lots of love, good food, veterinary care, and devoted foster families, these little ones have made an amazing transformation. They are now happy, healthy, playful puppies who are ready to find the forever families they deserve! We believe their mama is a Coonhound mix, and many of the puppies inherited her beautiful coloring and markings. Mom weighs right around 50 pounds, so we expect these adorable pups to grow into wonderful medium-sized dogs. Each puppy is: 🐾 Born approximately June 11 💉 Age-appropriate on vaccinations 📍 Microchipped ✂️ Will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption 🩺 Healthy and thriving 🐶 Friendly, playful, and full of puppy curiosity 💕 Expected to be medium-sized when fully grown ❤️ Please Note: These puppies will not be ready to go home until they are at least 8 weeks old (around mid-August). However, we are currently accepting applications, scheduling meet-and-greets, and taking reservations so each puppy can be matched with the perfect forever family before they're ready to leave their mama. These babies have never known what it's like to have a family that chose them—but that can all change today. They deserve warm beds, full bellies, squeaky toys, belly rubs, and people who will love them for the rest of their lives. 📍 Fostered in Sarasota, FL 💲 Adoption Fee: $350 If you'd like to welcome one of these resilient little survivors into your family, we'd love to hear from you! 📧 Email: Info@Love4PawsFL.org 🌐 Apply to adopt: https://www.love4pawsfl.org/adopt

Story
🐾 Meet Johnny A-Aron! 🐾 Johnny is a 7 month old puppy with a heart much bigger than his paws. While most puppies his age were busy learning about toys, couches and how to charm their humans into giving extra treats, Johnny spent two months of his young life waiting in a rural shelter. Thankfully, those days are behind him and he’s making up for lost time. Johnny is sweet, playful and full of love. He wakes up every day ready for adventure and is quickly learning what it means to be a cherished family dog. ✅ House Trained ✅ Crate Trained ✅ Dog Friendly ✅ Kid Friendly ✅ Great in the Car ✅ Neutered ✅ Vaccinated One thing we’ve learned about Johnny is that he takes neighborhood wildlife very seriously. He loves watching critters outside, points at them like a little hunting dog and would happily volunteer to chase every wild rabbit in Myakka if given the opportunity. We have a feeling there may be a little hunting dog somewhere in his family tree! Johnny is also a certified Velcro dog. He loves being close to his people and will happily follow you from room to room just to be part of whatever you’re doing. Whether it’s riding in the car, hanging out on the couch, or joining you on your daily adventures, Johnny wants to be right by your side. He’s learning fast, eager to please and has that perfect combination of goofy puppy energy and sweet affection. 📍 Fostered in Myakka City, FL 💰 Adoption Fee: $350 Apply to adopt: www.love4pawsfl.org/adopt

Story
🎀 Quinn 🎀 ⚠️ PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING – SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Quinn is a 5.5-year-old, ~50 lb red Goldendoodle who came from a breeder situation where she lived outdoors and had very little exposure to normal home life. She has made incredible progress and is now a happy, affectionate, and playful dog in her foster home. At home, Quinn is easy, loving, and well-behaved. She loves other dogs, plays in the yard, and is happiest cuddled up next to her canine friends or following her person from room to room. Once she bonds, she bonds deeply. However, Quinn is still very shy and easily overwhelmed in new environments. She is fearful in public and can be a flight risk if not properly secured. She will need a confident, experienced adopter who understands how to keep nervous dogs safe and is physically able to handle/lift her if needed. Quinn will also need time to build trust—multiple meet-and-greets will be required prior to adoption. She is not a dog who can go home on the first visit. She has a manageable medical routine (special diet, Pepcid, and probiotics) for mild reflux, which is well controlled. Quinn MUST have: ✔️ Another playful, confident dog (ideally 2+) ✔️ A secure fenced yard ✔️ A calm, adult-only home ✔️ A patient adopter committed to a slow transition and within an hour of Tampa 📍 Located in Odessa (Tampa area) 💲 Adoption fee: $300 ✔️ Spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm negative 👉 Apply: www.love4pawsfl.org/adopt Quinn is a truly special dog who just needs the right environment to continue thriving.

Story
*****PLEASE READ ENTIRELY BEFORE APPLYING***** Our very special, Millie 🩷 This sweet English Cream Golden Retriever is looking for a special, experienced home. She is NOT a "normal golden retriever" that you can take everywhere with you. Please read. Last fall, Millie was dumped in the woods, most likely by a breeder and very unsocialized. For 2+ months, experienced dog trappers tried to catch Millie and she just evaded everything. She survived both hurricanes alone in the woods and without any shelter 💔 Thankfully, she eventually got stuck in someone’s yard and was able to be captured in November - it was a miracle! This poor girl was full of fleas, ticks and heartworm positive. She has now been in a foster home since, was spayed and completed heartworm treatment! ❤️‍🩹 Millie LOVES dogs and can’t spend one minute without them. You can always find her glued to another dog or blending into a pack hoping that she’s invisible to humans. There isn’t one single dog that Millie wouldn’t like and she would actually love doggy daycare. She is very playful with other dogs and is truly a wonderful girl who is house trained, crate trained, very food motivated, very submissive and would never do a thing wrong. However, she wants nothing to do with humans. She doesn't want to be near you, is fearful when you approach or corner her and the slightest noise can send her into a complete panic. So, we are looking for a savvy home. Someone very experienced and someone who "gets it" and will follow our instructions to a T with keeping her safe. If she escapes, she will likely never be caught. Basic criteria: ✔️ She ideally needs a home with 2+ large dogs. She's most comfortable in a pack and we don't feel that one dog will be enough for her. However, if you are a very secure, helicopter dog parent with just 1 dog, please reach out. She needs a playful bestie though. ✔️ She would likely be cat friendly ✔️ Must have a securely 6ft fenced yard. She can jump a shorter fence. ✔️ No children or frequently visiting kids Most important criteria: ✔️ Someone who NEVER lets their dog off leash, never uses retractable leashes and whose dog never slips out the front door. We need a paranoid helicopter parent who doesn't think it's safe to let their dog run out the front door off leash or be off leash anywhere at all. She is not for a first time dog owner. She needs to stay as close to Tampa as possible, but no more than an hour away. If you feel that you could be a potential forever home for her, please complete an application and email us with a little more about you at info@love4pawsfl.org. Millie is in Odessa (Tampa) and her adoption fee is $400. She is about 60lbs, 2 years old, spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and heartworm negative. ➡️ Application: www.love4pawsfl.org/adopt
