Meet Cosmo This adorable guy has the spunk and spirit of a typical pup. His mom was unfortunately run over and he had to have a little help being bottle fed until able to eat on his own. You would not know it by looking at him or in his glowing personality. Cosmo is always up for a romp during playtime. He is also one of the sweetest snugglers. Cosmo has grown to adoption age in the same wonderful household and his foster mom would love to give you all the details on his daily life. Cosmo is well socialized and would do great in a home with or without dogs and/or with or without children. If you are looking for a dedicated family companion, you can’t go wrong with this cutie. Story
Are you looking for a friendly, playful, silly, cuddlebug? Then Ryder is your guy! You can tell he is looking for love from his human companions and enjoys spending time with you- whether that is playing a game of fetch, watching you eat trying to convince you to give him a piece with his puppy dog eyes, or snuggling up with you watching TV. We have been Ryder’s long term foster for a few months, and, we've been able to see his goofy personality shine through. Ryder is very curious about the world around him and wants to take everything in- which can sometimes be too much! He definitely takes on the energy of those around him so in loud or chaotic situations he can become super energetic wanting to join in on the fun. So long as his family knows his social limits and allows him to take some breaks from fast paced situations, Ryder will do just fine! Sticking to a routine has been very helpful for Ryder's transition into our home. It took him about 3 weeks to be comfortable in his foster home and then about 2 more to learn our routine. Now whenever I need to go to work, he goes into his kennel without needing to be asked because he knows that I need to leave and he isn't able to come with. We have left him out of his kennel when we leave for a short amount of time (under an hour) and Ryder has just napped on the couch while we were away. When it comes to going on walks, squirrels beware! Ryder definitely has a drive to chase after squirrels and bunnies. However, once they are safely up the tree or out of sight, he is good to keep moving on for his walks. Just be sure whoever is behind the leash can handle the pull of this 75lb dog! Aside from the squirrels, he loves going on walks. We have done a bit of jogging with him and it seems like he would fit in with someone who wants to do short jogs around the block. He can sometimes pull on the leash at the start of a walk because of excitement, but within a few minutes he is sniffing away happily on a relaxed leash. Ryder is definitely a food hound though- so be sure to be on the lookout in case there is food on the ground as you walk- he will absolutely try and gobble it up. While we are unable to introduce Ryder to other dogs while in foster, he is definitely curious about them on walks! He does well if the other dog doesn't start barking at him and can walk right on by the other side of the street without issue. If the other dog starts barking at him, then Ryder can get riled up and will need some help disengaging out of sight of the other dog. Any dog introductions to Ryder should be done slowly as his high and excited energy can be a lot for other dogs. You can tell he would love to go play with the other dogs- he can just be a bit of a bulldozer when he plays! Ryder likes: walks, treats/food, meeting new people, getting pets, new toys, playing, giving you kisses, watching outside the window, going on car rides (he LOVES this!), being social, the mailman (ours gives him treats!), his kong and snuffle mat Ryder dislikes: squirrels/small animals, cats, extended loud noises, rough housing while playing, dogs who bark at him for no reason when we are out on walks Overall, Ryder has been a great foster dog. He truly loves his people and is looking for a family that will love him back. He plays fetch, brings the toy back to you, and knows some basic commands- sit, stay, kennel, down (we taught "down" to him in about 3 weeks since we got him- so he is trainable for more tricks). He is housetrained and also kennel trained (although he will give you loving puppy dog eyes trying to convince you that he should be able to stay on the couch instead!). If your family would do well with a loveable goofball who loves to play and snuggle, then consider giving Ryder a chance! We are open to answering any questions you might have to see if he would be a good fit for you and your family

Story
Hear what Rosanna's foster has to say about her! "If you are looking for an extremely dog friendly little lady, let me introduce you to Rosanna!! She is our 10th foster and arguably the most dog friendly one we've had so far. She gets along with all dogs..... from tiny 20 pound pups to Great Danes, and she fits right in with any size or breed. Rosanna is about a year old. She came into CACC as an owner surrender at just 6 months and ended up growing up in the shelter. Border Tails Rescue pulled her so she could finally get the second chance she deserves. Rosanna is a tiny little thing, and she is even smaller in person than her pictures make her look. She also loves a big cozy bed and will curl herself right into the fluffiest spot she can find. In my home, she sleeps wonderfully in her crate next to my bed, rides beautifully in the car, and settles quickly after playtime. She plays with my dogs in the yard when she is feeling spunky, but indoors she becomes a little shadow. She finds a spot on her bed while we are working in the office or curls up right next to my legs on the couch. She LOVES to snuggle and she is happiest on her heating pad or tucked up against you. She has no prey drive. She peacefully watches the squirrels in the yard without making a move. She also shows zero resource guarding, and my dogs can take toys right from her without an issue at all. She does get excited and a little jumpy sometimes, but it is nothing unmanageable. Redirecting her with a bone or a toy helps her settle right down. She can be startled by small things, like ice falling from the fridge, but she learns fast. Because she missed out on her early puppy life in a home, she would really benefit from having another dog to show her the ropes and help build her confidence. Most importantly, please do not count her out on the first day. She may be unsure in a new place, but she is truly a sweet, gentle girl who just needs someone to give her a real chance." Rosanna, a recent arrival from Chicago Animal Care and Control, has a striking brown and tan coat and a kind personality. She’s a little bit shy and reserved, but with exposure and time, she’ll learn the meaning of love and family and make an amazing companion. She is smart and eager to learn new things, making a great training companion as well! From her foster family: " Update on Roseanna she is doing well in her foster home getting along with the two large resident dogs and loves following her foster humans around. She is enjoying a nice fenced in yard. She always likes to be within eyesight. She is fairly quiet and likes exploring the world outside the shelter. She is shy at first but warms up fast.     She is doing well on walks and doesn't show any leash reactivity. She enjoys car rides and likes to just sit in the back seat. She is making great strides with potty training and learning manners. She is also doing well crate training. She is food motivated which is helping her learning curve of the outside world. She sleeps through the night with no issues. She also gets the zoomies a few times a day while outside in the fenced yard, so a home with a fenced yard would be great for her. She also just enjoys laying around outside in the yard chewing on Nylabones.     When she tires out she likes to snuggle up and fall asleep close to her fosters with some of the most adorable little snores. Shes already learned so much from being with us. We know she will do great in a home with or without another pup. Lastly Rosanna would greatly benefit from a family that will be patient, continue with training, and of course a lot of love and affection." Dog day out review: "Roseanna is showing all the normal signs for a good puppy. She definitely has to get her wiggles out when she first meets you, but is eager to learn (with lots of treats) and loves to show affection. She was very easygoing in the car, and began chewing on a cardboard box I had, which is normal behavior for a dog her age. She is excellent on the leash for being a puppy, and we practiced making good eye contact which is an important skill to teach while leash training. Whenever I bent down to her level she acknowledged me with kisses or chose to sit by my side for some pets and rubs. She may have silly eyes, but from spending the afternoon with her, they definitely give the look of love. Although I didn’t see how she interacted with other dogs or kids, with the proper socialization and training I am sure she will make an excellent pet for anyone who loves to be outdoors, adventurous, and is able to give her the stimulation and love that any puppy deserves."
