Meet Laia — a 1.5-year-old, 49 lb Lab mix with a heart full of love and paws ready to play!   Quick Facts: Name: Laia Breed: Labrador/Beagle Mix Age: 1.5 years old Weight: 49 lbs House-Trained: Yes! Crate-Trained: Yes Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Yes Good with Kids: Yes (she jumps a little when excited, but that's being worked on!) Energy Level: Medium to High Fence Required: Yes   About Laia’s Breed: The Lab/Hound mix is a friendly, energetic crossbreed that combines the loyalty of a Labrador Retriever with the keen instincts of a hound. These dogs often inherit a strong investigative drive, high intelligence, and a love for outdoor activities like hiking and exploring. Depending on the hound parent—Lab/Hound mixes can vary in size, appearance, and temperament, but they typically weigh between 45–80 pounds and live 10–13 years. They thrive in active homes with plenty of exercise and mental stimulation, and they’re known for being affectionate, social, and eager to please.   Laia is a social butterfly who absolutely adores other dogs and would love living with a canine sibling to romp and snuggle with, but it isn't necessary. She’s also cat-friendly and loves being around people—especially if they’re up for a cuddle session or a game of tug with her favorite chew toys! With her bouncy energy and playful spirit, Laia is happiest in a home with a fenced yard or an active family who enjoys walks, hikes, and trips to the dog park.   Laia’s Lovable Highlights: Dog-obsessed, and great with cats too Playful and energetic, loves chew toys and zoomies Best with adults or older kids, as she can be jumpy when excited Crate trained, but prefers not to be left alone too long Working on potty training, and learning not to jump Walks well on leash, insists on the right side Knows basic commands, like “sit” and “come” Snuggly and sweet, loves being close to her people Sensitive to boundaries, working on confidence with doorways Destroys fluffy toys, but adores hard chew bones   Laia is looking for a loving, patient home where she can continue to grow and thrive. She’d be perfect for someone who works from home or is retired, has a fenced yard, and is ready to give her the attention and companionship she craves. If you’re ready for a loyal, lively, and lovable sidekick, Laia is ready to leap into your life and heart!   Ready to Welcome Laia Into Your Life? Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All dogs on our website ARE available and require an approved Best Friend Pet Adoption application before you can be considered or meet any of our dogs.  The link to our application is in the dogs bio below or at https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC  .      Herbie loves people.  He gets excited but doesn't bark or jump when people come in the house or when we walk by people outside. He sleeps by himself on the sofa during the day and all night, but loves it best when someone sits with him. He wants to be a lap dog!    Herbie loves food but is very patient when he is fed. He sits and waits for "OK" when we put his food bowl down.  He's pretty gentle taking treats and loves to work food puzzles.    Herbie loves our two 30 min walks.  But he would probably like even more walks.  He goes outside in the yard a few times a day to do his business but he doesn't just hang out in the yard or on the deck very long unless a human is with him.  He is a people focused dog! We think he'd do fine with a house or apt with no fenced yard and a just walks.   Herbie does fine on walks but does need further leash walking skills.  When we pass people he is calm and happy, and he sits on command to let people pass without approaching them. Herbie can be reactive when we see other dogs on walks. We cross the street or move off the trail/sidewalk 6-10 feel to give plenty of room.  He occasionally jumps and barks depeding on the other dog and how close we are. He's making  progress though.     Herbie does not need to be crated. We have left him for 3-4 hours at a time which works fine as long as he's had a walk/meal and is ready to settle for a while.  He is mainly housebroken.   He will stand by the back door and whine to let us know when he needs to go outside.    Herbie is very vocal when riding in a car.  A few trips to the vet is fine.  If  you want a dog for a cross country road trip, Herbie will not be packing his bags to come along with you!    Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.  Applicants must live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore require applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC.    INTERESTED IN ADOPTING HERBIE? Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. You MUST submit a Best Friend Pet Adoption application to be considered for Linus. The  application and additional information can be found at bfpa.org or    https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC Meet one of the Charlie Brown Puppies, Linus – a tender-hearted pup with the soul of a gentle giant and the goofy charm of a big ol’ puppy.  He is a year old and around 65–70 lbs, Linus is already house-trained, crate-trained, fully vetted, and ready to find a place to call home. Linus may be a little shy with new people, but once you’re “his person,” he’s all in. Expect full-body wiggles, goofy grins, and endless snuggles from this loyal boy. He just needs a little patience and understanding to feel safe, and once he does, you’ll have a best friend for life. His Story: Linus came to BFPA as a tiny puppy. He and his litter of six had a rough start—surrendered to a rural shelter at just 2½ weeks old, they had to be bottle-fed by special fosters before moving to regular foster homes. As Linus grew he began resource guarding food and toys with other dogs (never with humans). This isn’t unusual for pups who experienced early trauma, but to help him succeed, Linus completed an 8-week positive reinforcement program. The Perfect Home for Linus: Linus would thrive as the only pet in a calm home with older kids who understand that sometimes a pup needs space to warm up. He’s a “king of the castle” kind of guy—loyal, loving, and happiest when he can have his humans all to himself. A quieter home where he can feel secure is best. If you believe the best relationships are built on trust and you’re ready to offer a safe, loving home to a dog who truly deserves it, Linus is waiting for you. His loyalty runs deep, his heart is big, and he just needs the right person or family to let it shine. Interested in adopting Linus? Please fill out our dog adoption application—he’s ready to meet the family he’s been waiting for.  Copy and paste this link for our applicaiton:   https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC   Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 8, 2025, 11:49 am
