Story
Approximate Age: 2 years Approximate Weight: 98 lbs Meet Duke 🐾 Duke is the sweetest old soul you’ll ever meet — a gentle, affectionate boy who just wants all the pets, scratches, and love he can get. Why we love Duke: ● Great with other dogs ● Wonderful with kids ● Displays excellent potty manners in his foster home so far. ● No food or toy possessiveness ● Rides great in the car ● Knows sit, down, off, and has a solid recall ● Happy to relax and soak up affection . A few things to know: ● Incredibly strong and can pull on leash when excited ● A bit unsure about stairs ● Not a fan of the crate — barks and tries to escape ● Nail trims are a challenge and will require patience (and possibly professional help) Duke is a kind, loving boy who has clearly been through a lot but still has so much love to give. With gentle handling, patience, and a safe home, he will be an incredibly loyal and rewarding companion. 💛 ********************************************************************* Schedule a meet-and-greet by completing our Adoption Survey on the Adopt page of our website at https://www.olddominionhumanesociety.org/adoption-survey. Story
Jess is an approximately 5-year-old, 50 lb sweetheart with medium energy and an extra special charm all her own. While we don’t know much about Jess’s past, we do know she is incredibly loving, snuggly, and devoted to her people. Jess is friendly with humans and absolutely adores affection, treats, and playtime. One of her favorite ways to invite you to play is by adorably chasing and gently playing with her foster’s feet: her silly way of saying, “Let’s have fun!” She also loves chasing games and has a blast shredding and de-stuffing toys. Jess is still learning how to interact with other dogs. She does well with some dogs and is still learning to understand social cues with others. She will be working with Force Free DC to continue building her confidence, social skills, and helping her become the very best version of herself. She is brave, curious, food-motivated, and full of personality as she continues to come out of her shell. Jess does have some neurological differences that make her extra special and uniquely adorable. She also has a fear of cars and can be sensitive to certain outdoor noises and activity, so she would thrive in a quieter home environment outside of a busy city while she continues to build confidence. Jess is a sweet, funny, and playful girl who is ready to find a patient, loving home that will help her continue to blossom. 💗

Story
Bolt is a super friendly, cuddly rescue pup. I have had him about two years and he is a wonderful companion suited for a busy household. He would thrive in a home with children. He gets along great with other dogs as I have two. He plays hard but mostly when a human is present so I believe he would also do well in a home without other dogs. Bolt has separation that is mostly under control (meds), this is why I believe he needs a home with multiple people so he always has comfort, he will let you pet on him all day. He has been through multiple rounds of training so he knows basic commands and will follow them. His biggest struggle is being created by anyone other than myself so a home that allows him to free roam or with minimal boarding would have the easiest transition. Zero aggression, no matter the situation. Loves to swim, recall with distractions could use some work. Favorite toy types: benebone, rope toys, plush toys (to tear up), and soccer balls.
