Please contact Paul Slebzak (pauls@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.Good boy looking for his forever home! GP NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Come meet GP and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (06/21) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Falls Church, VA (6100 - A Arlington Blvd, Falls Church, VA 22044)! Name: GP Best Guess for Breed: Flat Coat Retriever mix Best Guess for Age: 5 years as of May 2026 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 49 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen them with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: DC area foster home Special adoption considerations: GP is a truly Lucky Dog. He tested positive for heartworms, but landed in a place where heartworm treatment is provided! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! GP is Looking For: GP is has a gorgeous long dark coat and a gentle expression that instantly draws you in. This sweet boy recently found himself in need of a new home after his previous owner became too sick to care for him anymore. While the transition has been a big change, GP is ready for a fresh start with a family to call his own. He’s hoping to find a home where he can settle in, enjoy life at a comfortable pace, and share plenty of love and loyalty with his new people. After losing the only home he knew, GP deserves a second chance with a family who will cherish him through all of life’s adventures — big and small. Could you be the one to give this beautiful boy the happy new chapter he’s been waiting for? What My South Carolina Foster Says About Me: He is absolutely without a doubt the most considerate house guest that I have EVER had. He has impeccable manners, and gives the best hugs. He gets along well with other dogs ( I have 7). His favorite things are #1 a bed (not a dog bed, your bed) and #2 being outside. He's food motivated so it's easy to teach him anything really. He quickly learned that seeing a medicine bottle meant he was getting a treat and he gets really excited when he sees them. He is a very considerate bed partner but he needs to be touching his human and sometimes you have to literally make him get out of bed to go outside in the morning. He hasn't made a single mistake in my house. (Not one single mistake!) Like I said, he's been the most considerate house guest ever. He has no desire to guard anything, in fact he will happily hang back and let the other dogs go first. He doesn't want any trouble and he isn't interested in being in charge. He does also really enjoy puzzles(he has a fantastic nose and likes using it) and the occasional toy- while he lounges in the bed of course. He does absolutely know what the word 'kennel' means and will go inside if asked. OH! I almost forgot...we went to an event and there were 3 pre-teen girls there. He acted like he had known them his whole life, practically climbed in their laps for love and had the biggest smile. He's a heartbreaker. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.
