Story
Meet Kobe, a beautiful young Flat Coat Retriever with a heart as big as his smile. Weighing about 55 pounds and estimated to be around one year old, Kobe is the definition of a happy, loving companion. He was found alone in a rural Tennessee community, and despite extensive efforts, no owner ever came forward. The caring couple who found him wanted more than anything to help, but their frequent travel made it impossible to give Kobe the stability he needed. Thanks to Critter Cavalry Rescue, Kobe was placed straight into foster care instead of being left behind in a rural shelter. Kobe has a personality that lights up every room. Friendly, affectionate, and eager to please, he has the classic temperament of a Flat Coat Retriever — often described as very similar to a Golden Retriever, but with a sparkle all their own. He adores other dogs, loves meeting new people, and greets everyone with a wagging tail, a joyful grin, and his signature move of offering his paw for a handshake. Kobe’s warmth and enthusiasm make him an incredible family dog. Kobe will be neutered on December 13th and microchipped so he will always have a way home if lost again. He is searching for a family that can offer a safely fenced yard, plenty of companionship, and a lifelong commitment to keeping him secure and loved. Kobe would be an excellent fit for a home with children and active people who are excited to share life with a joyful, devoted dog. If you are ready to commit to the next 15 years with a truly special dog and can provide the safety, training time, and love Kobe deserves, please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com to apply.       PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comJanuary 14, 2026, 8:53 pm

Story
Tanner is a senior Retriever mix with a gentle way about him. He moves slowly and deliberately, except for his tail, which seems determined to express every positive emotion he’s ever had. There’s a softness in his face and a warmth in his golden eyes that hint at both what he’s been through and what he’s still hoping for. When Tanner came to us after his person passed away, he was in rough shape. Thin, exhausted, and so anemic from fleas, even a bath would have overwhelmed his system. Those first days, he spent most of his time curled up in his little apartment, watching us with the weary caution of a dog who wasn’t sure what came next.So we kept things simple. Good food. Supplements. Soft beds. A lot of calm, no-pressure kindness. Slowly he realized the world wasn’t trying to knock him down anymore. His coat brightened. His energy returned. And one day he walked outside with surprising confidence, tail spinning like it had been waiting for its moment to shine. These days he enjoys the basics: a quiet walk, a soft place to nap, and anyone willing to offer a slow back scratch. He leans in with his full weight, which is flattering right up until you remember how solid fifty pounds can be. Pull out a cookie and he looks like a child seeing magic for the first time.Tanner isn’t dramatic, and he isn’t trying to reinvent himself. He’s simply a sweet, steady, grateful dog who appreciates the small, good things. If you like peaceful mornings, soft snoring, and a companion whose loyalty arrives without fanfare, you’ll understand him immediately. You can meet Tanner at Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road in Hampton, VA. Visiting hours are 9am to noon every day, including weekends and holidays. He’ll be the one with the golden eyes and the tail that has good opinions about everything.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

Story
Shelter magic is real - and Lily is living proof. When Lily arrived, she was overwhelmed, insecure, and (no judgment here) very chonky. She wasn’t quite sure how to be a dog yet. Fast forward, and the glow-up is undeniable. Lily is now slender, athletic, and stepping into the world with confidence and - yes - joy. Watching her discover herself has been like seeing someone realize, mid-stride, that they actually know how to run. She’s been spending more and more time in our food prep and office area, where she excels at being what we call "helpful." "Helpful" means no counter surfing, no shelf demolition - just calm company, joyful greetings, and occasional dramatic flops on the floor to demand belly rubs. With Lily, there’s no chaos. Just vibes.Lily is a healthy, nearly two-year-old Collie/Golden mix. True to her collie roots, she has opinions and a strong interest in managing the household. She can be a little neurotic in the most earnest way, and she’ll thrive with people who appreciate her inner project manager and know how to gently redirect her toward play and enrichment. The good news - Animal Aid Society has an excellent trainer ready to provide in-home support, fully covered by us, if you want a few pointers to help Lily shine.Lily has done the work. Now she’s ready for a home that lets her become her best self.Animal Aid Society is located at 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA. Visiting hours are 9am to noon, including weekends and holidays. Come meet Lily - she’s ready to greet you, flop dramatically, and maybe manage your household just a little.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

Story
I’m tired of writing about resilience.About dogs who survive the unthinkable and still choose to love us.About how they’re “so forgiving,” “so gentle,” “so grateful.”It shouldn’t take tragedy to remind us that dogs are good. They were always good. They were always meant to be cherished.Leia’s ten now - a 50-pound Black Lab mix with silver on her muzzle and eyes that know too much. She came to us, along with Tanner and Luke, after her person passed away. When she arrived, she was malnourished, crawling with fleas, so anemic she could barely stand. And somehow, she rallied. She greets every person with quiet joy.She leans in for back scratches. She takes slow, thoughtful walks and naps deeply, as if peace itself is a new discovery.I want to say it’s inspiring. But really, it’s heartbreaking because it shouldn’t take survival to make a dog worth noticing. If you’re reading this, you already understand. You know the world doesn’t change through grand gestures, but through small mercies, repeated often.Help a friend who’s struggling to care for their pet.Use your voice or keyboard to speak up for rescue, for spay/neuter, for prevention and compassion.Volunteer if you can. Donate if you’re able.Or come meet Leia. Let her remind you what grace looks like. Be her hero.Animal Aid Society is located at 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA.Visiting hours are 9am to noon, including weekends and holidays.Interested?
