Story
We are shocked that small hound queen Opal is still looking for her furever home as she is serious hound girl perfection! Voted most statuesque hound and best squirrel & bird watch hound of the HERO House, Opal is about 8 years young, about 35-40lbs. Opal is a little on the shy side at first, but once she acclimates to her home, she is a loving, affectionate constant companion who loves to spend her time sprawled out on a couch or bed after her long shifts of watching the trees for critter activity. Opal is on slow kill treatment (provided by HERO) for heartworms due to her age & smaller body type. This does not stop her from enjoying the yard on a sunny day & shorts romps in the yard with the pack. Opal will play for short periods of time, but like any senior gal, she is way more interested in relaxing & getting love than playing with the pack. Opal prefer a calm home where she can enjoy the simple good life. She does well with our toddler when he is not being a crazy toddler, but often avoids him & his toddler antics. Opal would does love being loved on, so calmer, older children should be fine. Opal is seriously one of the most well behaved hounds we have ever had, though sje can get a little bouncy and let her hound hound shine for food & treats. Unlike many hounds, we believe Opal would be amazing as an only dog. She does not like being in a crate and is mot destructive when left out alone in the home. She prefers to be a homebody, but will go for short walks and did well on doggy daycare in the past. Opal is currently in Greensboro, NC. If interested in Opal, apply at HeroHounds.org/adopt

Story
Daisy is 7 years old. She is a tricolor foxhound. We got her a couple of years ago from a shelter. Her owner died and the family couldn't take her in so they had to take her to shelter. We already had another pet a Walker coonhound and they do not get along well. Daisy is the dominant one and doesn't allow for alot of peace. Daisy can be sweet dog when it doesn't involve the other dog. I think she would be a good pet for a 1 dog household because there would be no interaction with another dog. It is not a constant issue but it is a daily issue and is not fair to the other dog. She likes to eat, sleep, bark, and play outside. She is scared of weather. She likes to snuggle but she doesn't lick. She has been trained in someway because she will sit on command. Please reach out if you want to meet her.

Story
Rowdy is a little shy with new people. Shes great with all dogs she meets and would be best on a home with another dog to help her adjust. Rowdy is curious in new situations, but life up until recently, hasnt been kind to her..... so she will need time to get comfortable and then her true goofy nature will emerge! Like a butterfly, Rowdy is a much different pup than when she 1st came to us from the pound, with no hope of getting out :( UNTIL the rescue chick saw me and knew i was a diamond in the RUFF ;) Rowdy needs a patient home who will give her time to warm up, open up & trust. Older kids only would be best for her and a fully fenced yard is a must. Until she settles in she'll be an escape risk. An apartment would work for Rowdy as well. She is ready for her furever family!! Apply soon! Local adoption fee is $300(in TX)

Story
Anderson is wondering if there is a fun loving pup who wants a best friend and pup brother? Anderson is an energetic, happy, loving 2 yr old hound mix (most likely with pointer) who loves to play with everyone he meets from dogs to people to everyone . Andersons biggest issue is that his hound instincts can take over and he can be a little bit of an escape artist. He doesnt go far, but he does love to follow his nose, so a secure tall fence would be ideal for him. Anderson would do best in a home with an active playmate, regular doggy day care or with a family who loves to jog or run with a pup to help him use all that young hound energy. Anderson is good at playing with himself and keeping himself busy as well, but is happiest when playing with other young dogs, big or small, in his foster home. Anderson is fully vetted, crated trained, mostly house trained (he may need some transition time due to change in schedule or housing) and does well with all dogs. Anderson loves to play and hunt, so we dont think a home with cats would be ideal. If interested in Anderson, message our page for more info or apply at herohounds.org/adopt

Story
****SAVE OUR SENIORS!!*** ADOPTABLE hunk of hound love, Malachi is a 10-ish-year-old, 60-ish-pound Treeing Walker Coonhound love who is finally getting to enjoy all the good things a dog’s life should have. After spending most of his life chained outside, Malachi has discovered that indoor life is pretty amazing — and he has absolutely mastered it! This big, thick, lovable hound is happiest stretched out on a comfy dog bed or couch, snoozing the day away. Malachi can be left loose in his foster home without being crated and has not been destructive. He’s house trained and will let you know when he needs to go outside. And like any respectable hound boy, he takes mealtime very seriously. But don’t let his love of naps fool you — Malachi also really enjoys his walks! He loves taking his time, sniffing all the smells, sightseeing and doing a little “hound hunting.” Because he is a true hound through and through, he must be kept on leash when exploring outside of a securely fenced area. If Malachi catches an interesting scent, he is definitely going to want to follow it! And his personality? Malachi is pretty much everything-friendly. Dog friendly Cat friendly People friendly House trained Trustworthy loose in his foster home Professional napper Loves leisurely walks and sniffing adventures Malachi’s dream home is pretty simple: a soft place to sleep, people to love him, good meals, and some safe outdoor time in a fenced yard or on leash so he can enjoy all those wonderful hound smells. After spending so many years outside on a chain, this sweet senior deserves to spend the rest of his life knowing nothing but comfort, love and the good dog life. Want to give this big ol’ lovable hound his happily ever after? Apply to adopt Malachi at herohounds.org/adopt

Story
Meet Hazel! This hound girl needs a Hail Mary & is fully vetted, can anyone foster? Sweet Hazel is a 9-year-old, 50 lb Treeing Walker Coonhound needs a soft place to land. She’s friendly, good with other dogs, crate trained, house trained, great on leash, and rides well in the car. She’s medium-to-low energy and would be perfect for someone who loves an easygoing senior hound. Hazel was found as a stray, then passed through two homes where she didn’t receive the care she deserved. She ended up heartworm positive, completed her final injections at the end of July, and is doing wonderfully with no complications. She does need a cat-free home — Hazel is a true hunting hound girl at heart. She still can’t quite understand why she doesn’t rule the world, but she’s accepted it... mostly. Please help us give this sweet senior girl the loving foster home she deserves.
