Story
Besides Marty having a cute appearance he’s also got an endearing personality. Besides a heart-shaped nose, floppy ears, and a tail that’s in constant wag, Marty has soft brown eyes that will draw you in to him. Marty is an eight month old 40 pound blonde Fox Hound mix that came in to the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 4/10 as a stray. Typical of a hound he explored the yard with his nose. He chased a bird. He frolicked in the yard with his tail spinning like a windmill on a windy day. He sat on command taking a treat gently. He’s sweet, playful, joyful, friendly, outgoing, spirited, and alert. He did his business in the yard. He walks well on a leash. He’s delightful. He would need to go outside to play and burn off his energy in a secured yard, but then would want to come inside for snuggles.

Story
Meet Ladybird, the loveable sixty-pound (her healthy weight is closer to 53 lbs) American Foxhound who has never met a stranger. Ladybird is approximately 7 to 8 years old, but thinks she is still a youngster. She is tan and black, with a white chest, white socks, and captivating copper eyes. Ladybird was found injured in the woods, covered in ticks, suffering mild anemia, and a tick-borne virus that has since been treated. Ladybird is up to date on her vaccinations, is heartworm negative, is spayed and microchipped. Other than her monthly prevention, she does not require medication. Ladybird is believed to have previously been a hunting dog. She needs physical activity daily. She loves long walks and exploring. She loves to run, and will run straight out the front door if given the opportunity. She has a passive temperament and is good with kids and cats. She will do best with a companion dog. She is very affectionate. She loves to lay her head in your lap. She really likes belly rubs and will tap her tail loudly against the floor or sofa to let you know it's time for one. Ladybird has so much personality. Everyone who meets her loves her. Ladybird did not do well with the crate. She easily escaped it. She is house trained but a doggy door is highly recommended. She is insecure when left alone, but a companion dog will help tremendously with that, in addition to filling her need to play. She is afraid of thunderstorms, but a cuddle and a blanket over her head are usually all she needs. She is a fantastic car rider! She knows a handful of commands the most useful of which are, 'leave it' and 'settle.' She is very smart, observant, and a problem-solver. She loves coffee and has a unique ability to pick up a to-go coffee cup by the lid and carry it off without spilling. Ladybird is a wonderful pet. She is so full of personality and charm. She makes me laugh all day. I wish I could keep her, but it wouldn't be fair to her. I am disabled. What was thought to be a dog in her golden years turned out to be a much younger dog with temporary medical needs. Once recovered, her true energy needs became clear. I love her enough to want for her the best life she can have. She needs a home that can provide plenty of daily activity, including walks, and a companion dog. Ladybird is deserving of the perfect furever home. Apply to adopt Ladybird today. This pet is participating in the Dallas Pets Alive rehoming program. Story
Yippee and Yates are the only two still waiting for a forever home of the "8 is enough" series. They just passed their first birthday, and we really do not know at all why two such gorgeous and well-behaved hounds are still at the Furry Friendzy rescue. The holidays are upon us. How about giving them the gift of a loving family and home. They will definitely reciprocate in kind. Our Furry Friendz are available for adoption through a screening process which includes but is not limited to: a completed application, 3 referrals, a home visit, and a vet referral prior to their furever home placement. The dogs are Spayed/Neutered, micro chipped, current on all vaccines and on heart worm/flea preventive. Story
What kind of dog is Guidry? We see American Foxhound, Treeing Walker Coonhound, Beagle. Maybe a combination thereof? Whatever it is, the result is a wonderful dog. Smaller than a Walker, taller than a Beagle and sturdy in built. His personality is sweet, laid back and accommodating with all the new friends he met at rescue. We see Guidry as a great companion to an active person or family, who love to be outside and explore nature. Of course a nice sofa will be appreciated too. How about it? Our Furry Friendz are available for adoption through a screening process which includes but is not limited to: a completed application, 3 referrals, a home visit, and a vet referral prior to their furever home placement. Story
AIDEN's owner brought him home as a puppy and kept him on a chain his whole life. We were able to bring him into our group a few months ago. Since then he has blossomed! He cannot believe he can run and play to his heart's content. He was a little afraid of toys at first, but now he LOVES to play fetch. He is kennel trained and is very happy in his big, 54" kennel with his own window to look out of. We are introducing him to other dogs now and he is learning how to play and be a dog. Although Aiden's major breed is a Plott Hound (a large dog), Aiden is 45 pounds and full grown. He has several other hound breeds in him as well. For more information on Aiden, please email can.adoptions@yahoo.com.
